Not surprisingly there is an Ernie Banks in this style of glossy 3.5" pin that also has close up photos of Ron Santo, Billy Williams, and Glenn Beckert. I would guess they are from 1972 or 1973. They have cardboard backs that could be used as stands. The Banks was recently on eBay and is the first one I have seen.

I have the Banks pin, but it's a little smaller, and it's not cropped so tight.

Ernie’s facsimile signature changed quite a bit. Did this happen in “real life,” as with Mays?

I picked up another 1927 PM6 pin at the National. These are exceedingly rare and I was just casually looking through some cases on my way to another booth when I noticed this in the corner of my eye. (Thank goodness for peripheral vision :) )
That makes it 4 out of the 8 pins in the set that I have. |

Those are SO very rare, especially in good condition or without serious back oxidation or acidification, or whatever it is. Does anyone know anything about them, like method of distribution, etc.?

There's some background on them at Pre-War cards https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...wRSuVSGYY6lnsW I've also seen a reference on Heritage that "It is believed these small (3/8" diameter) pins were given away in cereal boxes, but their true origin is unknown." If that's true id love to know which cereal. |

Attachment 668818I found this photo online from a 2017 REA auction.

Interesting that Harris made the cut, but not Gehrig. I'm wondering if that might date it slightly earlier when "The Boy Wonder" manager was in his heyday.

Made a trade with a fellow Giants collector/Net54 member. I got the better of the deal. :D
Amarillo was the Giants' Texas League AA affiliate from 1968-74. If anyone can tell me what the "YY" means, I'd love to know. |

I checked ebay at exactly the right time to get this lot right when it was listed. They are all in really nice shape.

Happy to add this into the collection... seems lately trade is the only way to get things.. Like they say you have to give something up to get something! A very tuff Mantle pin to get! Absolutely clean pin....

I haven’t found anything out in the wild lately, so I was happy to snag this Robin Roberts PM10 pinback. Not in hand yet but condition looks nice.

Picked this up. South Philadelphia pro baseball club called the Giants. A negro team.

Picked up a really nice copy of the Willie Mays aqua pin (along with a decent NY pennant) last week. Decided that it did not really display well my other Giants PM10 type pins, as they are all black and white. So decided to create a small, but colorful Willie, Mickey, and the Duke pin display. Because, why not.

I take the padding out of the cases because I don't want the pins up against the glass. I then use a type of sponge-like "board" from Hobby Lobby (sort of like neoprene, but a bit more firm) and cut it to fit. Then slide the pins into that spongy board. It's a bit more firm than I would like and it can take a few attempts to get things properly aligned, but it's the best thing I've found thus far. There are a few color options, but not many.

Love the way you manipulated the Riker cases. The ribbons and charms always look sloppy when smooshed up against the glass. The "air space" you created serves to enhance the 3D effect.
Awesome Pins, and that blue Mantle is a toughie! |

My first pin ever .... from the Rube Waddell Estate.

Wowser  Not a bad example for your first one ever. Never seen another, and from Rube's estate no less. Just spectacular.
