Yup. They have slowed way down. PSA took a big chunk of their graders away to fill their own demand.

Based on what I'm seeing and thinking, you might be one of the last ones to get decent service from them for quite a while.

bcbgcbrcb 10-29-2025 12:15 AM

2 card order still in Received status after 3 weeks and a 4th week where they didn’t mark it as Received for an extra week beyond when it was delivered. Definitely moving in the direction of As slow as PSA.

SGC turning to crap like PSA
Waiting on a sub recieved 9/26
Just emailed them 2 days ago as still marked recieved and they responded they need to bring in a Pre war expert. All I was asking was for are one reevaluation and some reholders in that regard

Viola'- now in processing

May I ask what it was that required the expert?

Are they honoring their 1-2 day service, or has that fallen by the wayside as well?

imdaman1964 10-30-2025 08:29 PM

My pre war had a couple T206's, an M101-3 and a 1909 Victor Pub Cy Young

martin neal 11-03-2025 06:39 AM

Eighteen card submission mostly t205s and t206s with one Ruth Exhibit. Submission was received Sept. 4 and shipped Oct. 2.

bcbgcbrcb 11-03-2025 07:48 AM

Mine still in received status since Oct 1

premiercardcollectors 11-03-2025 08:17 AM

I just sent 40 to SGC. Received 10/31. Will see how it goes. I saw that SGC was down 69% YOY last month while PSA was up 124%. Collectors is trying to kill SGC IMO and are gutting their staff.

Possible conspiracy theory (but it may be reality??)...:confused::eek:

Hate to say it, but if they are working to eliminate the demand for SGC (with the intent of making the brand disappear) what's the most obvious thing they can do?

How about giving out grades that are demonstrably lower than what the cards warrant? (That topic is talked about every single day.) It's a two-fold solution, as submitters will be so pissed at the bad grades that they will refuse to send any more cards to SGC.
And what will their next move be? How about resubmitting the cards to PSA to get 'proper' grades...which will generate more revenue (off of the same cards they paid SGC to grade) for the PSA mother ship.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

I have thought this same exact thing and do believe it is true.

Also.... they have removed SGC from all regional card shows. This was the method by which a huge chunk of SGC's customers would submit (to avoid potential damage/loss in shipping). Since they've enacted this wonderful collector-friendly policy, SGC's submissions have plummeted.

They are squelching SGC on purpose, and will soon issue a statement something like.... "Due to dwindling customer demand, Collectors has made the decision to disband SGC, blah blah blah."

They intentionally create the problems, and thereby remove the vintage card collector's only viable option. Not the kind of company I would ever support.

shagrotn77 11-12-2025 04:29 PM

The last THREE subs I sent to SGC were all returned ungraded. All cards that they've traditionally graded. Obviously, I'm not subjecting myself to any more of the same. I understand that PSA has shaken things up quite a bit over there since the takeover, but one of them needs to notify submitters about what - if anything - SGC is still grading. I won't hold my breath. Communication is way down the list of strengths for both parties.

My latest sub is now over a month since received and still in Receiving status. A whopping two card order.

NATCARD 11-12-2025 06:42 PM

SGC turnaround

My latest order hit the 5 week mark since received. Has been in post grading processing for over 1 week now. Highly expect a press release very soon that PSA has dissolved SGC for good. What a shame but the writing is on the wall. Although they say they are "Downsizing" the company, it appears that the size is "0".

Lorewalker 11-12-2025 09:19 PM

From across the hall...https://www.blowoutforums.com/showpo...postcount=5571

Shocked that Nat left them with 30% of their people. Still not making sense how they cannot meet deadlines.

Tabe 11-14-2025 11:55 PM

I submitted to SGC for the first time last month. 5 cards, 1961 & 1962 Topps. Received 10/10 by SGC, delivered back to me today, 11/14. Longer than the advertised turnaround but not by much. Good enough.

NATCARD 11-15-2025 07:16 AM

On its way back!

Shipped yesterday (11/14). When it arrives it will be 2 days short of 6 weeks for 37 regular sized cards.

sammythunder 11-15-2025 09:52 AM

I was going to create a video on this, but I figured I'd write this out. If you look at the last two months of submissions, they went from 60k in August to 50k in September. This seems to be all by design.

By reducing the staffing (as it was suggested that they're moving graders with SGC to PSA to learn their methods), less submissions can be graded. In doing so, anyone submitting to SGC will be met with a major logjam of delays. It doesn't appear that they're interested in solving that problem. I'm of the opinion that they're hoping that the logjam of delays deters collectors from submitting. I believe that they're hoping that the numbers will continue to decrease and eventually give them an excuse to cut off all submissions at a future date.

The whole "boutique brand" will just be smoke and mirrors. I'm really hoping I'm wrong on this, but this is just what my gut tells me.

premiercardcollectors 11-15-2025 09:56 AM

SGC processing times

IMO, they are purposely slowing down subs in order to make SGC less appealing and drive more submissions to PSA. Instead of having two strong companies they have obviously made the decision to consolidate their business into one. I have a 34 card submission there since 10/28 and still in received status.

I just got an email this morning from SGC about them receiving my submission I sent last week. If they're working on Saturday, maybe they're putting in some OT to catch up.

Now that's funny!

boneheadandrube 11-15-2025 11:46 AM

I submit 30-60 pre war cards per month (for several years), they are at about a month and a half lead time since the middle of summer for my stuff. That brings it closer to what PSA lead times are so it makes timing between the companies appear more even to consumers. I do think they are trying to discourage submissions of modern cards to corral those over to PSA where they are equipped to handle that volume. SGC grading numbers are becoming similar to what they were before the 2020-24 boom which was their stated goal.

My hope is that they let SGC exist with an emphasis on vintage as that material requires a different discipline to handle than what 99%+ of their business currently is. The "machine" that grades modern probably doesn't like getting anything that isn't easily identifyable to the low knowledge employees it takes to do that work. Like a wrench in the system. If we're lucky, they will maintain SGC as an offshoot for the vintage catagory simply to streamline. If not, you are watching a company abandon the segment that created the value in the hobby to begin with.

PSA actually does a bad job with pre war vintage IMO, and will do everything they can to squeeze collectors monetarily. That's actually all that the company exists to do, the "PSA sells for more" statement is their reason to basically charge a commission on the cards value with upcharges and tiered grading fees. I know SGC has had these in place as well but it was always less predatory. Hopefully having SGC as that "boutique" company presents value to them enough to keep it. It's sad, but I now view PSA as an enemy of my hobby! They are like a toll booth every 5 miles on a highway...

bcbgcbrcb 11-15-2025 12:54 PM

Another week gone by with no updates from SGC. Not getting any better……

Same situation as PSA right now, one is worse than the other.

Regarding the part in bold.... Yes, that is beyond obvious at this point. Add to that, they have removed SGC from ALL Regional Shows, thus making it much more difficult (and riskier) to submit to SGC.

And they are not going to retain the bulk of SGC customers, should they decide to disband them. SGC's customer base has made a conscious decision not to use PSA for too many reasons to list. As it stands currently, only about 1/3 of PSA's business is in sports cards. The other 2/3 is TCG. Pretty ironic, considering their name is "Professional Sportscard Authenticators".

Svabinsky78 11-15-2025 07:53 PM

I mailed my order off priority on 10/16. It was "received" by SGC on 10/28/2025. Current status as of today, 11/15/2025, is still showing as "received." So it has been about a month since I mailed it off to them and it is still in the "received" state.

PSA has completely lost the ability to evaluate and grade vintage cards. Their grades are a complete joke. SGC is at least more consistent. My understanding is that PSA has so many new graders who spend the majority of their time grading TCG and don’t even care about sports cards (as graders have the ability to pick their own stacks of cards). They hate grading vintage because it is more time consuming than modern or TCG.

Unfortunately, there really isn’t another grading company that retains value like PSA or SGC. As a result, my guess is that as much as most of us hate PSA, we will be forced to go to PSA if SGC were to fold or be sucked up into the PSA umbrella.

CSG and CGC are starting to gain steam with some of the auction houses due to their fast turn around times and cheap prices but as a seller and dealer, I can tell you that when I buy their slabs those cards tend to sit and if I do sell them then its for significantly less than what PSA and SGC sell for.

Beckett and MBA grading are also tougher sells and Beckett does such a horrible job at encapsulating.

Hopefully someone will step up or there will be a desire to spin off or sell the SGC brand for whatever value it has instead of simply killing it.

Man, that is the quite the slowdown.

What are they doing (or not doing) at SGC?

bcbgcbrcb 11-17-2025 03:03 PM

Well, SGC finally got around to grading my 2 card order today and surprise, surprise, they informed that that one of them they no longer grade even though pop report indicates over 100 graded already. I think at this point, if there is something that PSA doesn’t grade, SGC is NOT ALLOWED to grade it either.

So that’s it, I’m officially done grading with SGC. I will continue to buy their graded cards but no submissions ever again. Will only submit to PSA if value mandates that it be holdered, otherwise no submissions there either. Others should follow suit and maybe one day, things will get better.

Interesting. I had some postcards that SGC had previously graded, that they chose not to grade this time around. I wonder if indeed there is this memo out there.

Right! I've been saying this for a while now. Why would anyone support the very company that squelched your best option for vintage cards, and made it more difficult/expensive/risky/time-consuming to grade? Might be time to try CGC, as PSA will never get a penny from me.

I am going with CGC. Not that Nat gives a...Anything that they can do to discourage us from using SGC, they will do. Not sure why they don't just close it down and do some friendly crossover consideration. Doing it this way will guarantee he loses the SGC faithful but not sure that matters to him either.

Aquarian Sports Cards 11-18-2025 03:07 AM

Possibly terms of the sale prohibit them from just shuttering it for "X" amount of time, or possibly a list of conditions that have to be lived down to, to justify the closure.

Johnny630 11-18-2025 06:46 AM

Going forward please Just make it one Slab, (Going Forward Newly Graded Only for Pop) one Pop and be done with it.

SGC is legacy brand.

Meanwhile, this order projected to close Jan. 7 might stall out, but 11 business days to go through three PSA stages is as quick as I can recall for any of my grading submissions. Maybe pulling 70% of SGC's staff is paying dividends over there.

How long did it to take for them to acknowledge that they even picked up your package?? My latest sub was picked up by them a few days ago, but no acknowledgment whatsoever.
