Thanks! I had found the info on your site to be very helpful some time ago when I'd tried unsuccessfully to add that scorecard to my collection the first time!

As far as the ticket is concerned, I have only seen reserved seat tickets from the game that show the date. It is very possible that it is a bleacher ticket from that game if it was in the program.

It was extremely helpful! And yes, it's possible, but the probability of getting a third-party grading company to do the research necessary to validate or dispute the date would probably be close to zero!

I have quite a few programs. However these are two of my favorites. Sept. 24, 1971, at Shea Stadium 35,936 fans watched the Pirates beat the Mets 3-2 in just under two hours. Clemente was the honoree that night in a pre-game ceremony at Shea Stadium. With his wife, three sons and parents were in attendance, he stood proudly alongside a contingent of Puerto Rican civic and community leaders from the New York area.

Vera Clemente said that of all the accolades he received during his baseball career, the heartwarming weekend, dubbed “Superstar — Roberto Clemente,” on Sept. 24-25, 1971, touched his heart.

These celebratory festivities included an opening reception at LaGuardia Airport and a press conference at the Hotel Commodore. Before the Pirates-Mets game Friday night, community organizers held a pre-game ceremony in Clemente’s honor. The following evening, a dinner/dance inside the Grand Ballroom of the defunct hotel capped the weekend.

Here is a program to the game and an ultra rare Superstar program that was made available for attendees of the diner/dance at the Commodore Hotel. I am aware of one other copy of the Superstar program. The first photo (courtesy of the Clemente Museum) is of the Ballroom event. The second is a Type 1 of Roberto and Vera taken at the game. It includes a ticket stub to the game and a pinback given to fans by WADO which was a Spanish language radio station that was a sponsor of the events.

1902 Stanley Cup program
 

This is a Program From January 1902 and Stanley Cup challange which was 3 Games. Manitoba won 2 to 0 over The Iron Dukes of Toronto. Previous to this program popping up the Earliest known Stanley Cup " Finals" program was from 1920. The 1920 program is currently listed on ebay. I contacted the Hockey Hall of fame and the earliest Finals program in their archives is 1922.
In 1894 Lord Stanley donated a Silver Cup to be given to the winners of a hockey Tournament in Montreal. From then until 1913 other Hockey teams could Challange the current Holders to a best of 3 series for the right to hold the cup. Attendance at many of these challange matches was in the Hundreds and some were held outdoors so it is likely not every challange had a program. This program was a giveaway from a Hardware store in Manitoba. I am looking for any other early Stanley Cup Challage programs. And I have a feeling someone on this board has at least one.

Finally taking the time to jump into this great thread. I love scorecards and the research it sometimes takes to figure if anything of significance happened at the game.

Here's one I have scans of - it's from an American Association (Major league) game that took place June, 18, 1884 in Washington Park just a few blocks from where I used to live in Brooklyn. It captures a game against Toledo which included Moses Fleetwood Walker, (lesser) known to be the first Black player to play in the majors. I cannot find any other item, image, anything - that captures Fleetwood on the Toledo team as a major leaguer; the known items are from his college or local team days. Not in great shape but it exists!

Correct, Washington Park actually still technically exists as a strip of turf next to the Old Stone House and JJ Byrne. Little league baseball and soccer are still played in it.

Second game of a doubleheader, Giants win 4-1 behind a CG (0 ER) by the rookie Mathewson.

Picked this up at a local show and have a few questions. I’m always looking to learn more about our hobby.

1. Is it more desirable for collectors to have it scored or unscored?
2. I tried looking at Baseball Reference for the exact game and couldn’t locate it. I’m guessing these were pre printed with an expected lineup and the scorecard was adjusted at first pitch?
3. I’m not looking to sell it, I just think it’s a cool piece with Mantle and Berra on it, but would like an idea of value.

Houk is on the Yankees roster, he was released on July 22, 1954

None of the lineups exactly match, but I would guess it's the July 10 game.

No opinion on value from me, I only collect scored programs and scorecards. If it is that game, some would claim that Whitey Ford got his second career save, a (stupid) stat that didn't exist yet. Bob Wiesler did get his second career win and his second career hit. Bunky Stewart got on base for the second time in his career.

The First agame of the First Championship series of the BAA. Which after the merger became the first championship series of the NBA. Was a long time coming.

1947 Dinner program/menu to an event at the Penn Hotel to introduce the new ownership group of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This group was owned the 1971 and 1960 championship teams.

Happy to revive this thread with my pick up of this 1915 Brooklyn vs Chicago Federal league program. The colors front and back are outstanding. And interior is filled with tons of ads and information. Looks like the game was June 28th and the Whales beat Brooklyn 10 to 5.. my favorite ad is for a Hires rootbeer contest. Promising a new 1915 Harley Davidson to whomever collects the most Hires bottle caps.

I'm in the process of selling off some of my scorecard collection to clear space, and I thought I would share some of the more interesting ones.

This first one is a 1944 Puebla vs. Mexico City. In the mid-1940's the Mexican League was trying to become a third major league, and recruited countless Negro League stars such as Roy Campanella, Leon Day, Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige in addition to the best Cuban and Puerto Rican players. Backed by the millionaire importer/exporter Pasquel brothers, the Mexican League went over the top in 1946 when they lured away several Major League players like Max Lanier, Mickey Owen, Sal Maglie and Vern Stephens.

The cover of this 1944 scorecard has a great drawing of Mexico City's ace pitcher Leroy Matlock. Matlock was one of the starters for the great 1933-1936 Pittsburgh Crawfords team as well as the Homestead Grays and St. Louis Stars. Though he's forgotten today, he was named as one of the Negro Leagues' all-time best pitchers in 1954 Pittsburgh Courier's newspaper poll. Matlock went to Mexico in 1940 and played there for the next two seasons before retiring.

Among the stars playing in this 1944 game were Negro Leaguer's Wild Bill Wright, Theolic "Fireball" Smith and Hall of Famer Willie Wells along with Latin standouts Millito Navarro and Bobby Avila in just his second summer of pro ball.

You might recall Theolic "Fireball" Smith as the hero of the fun 1996 Mark Winegardner book "Veracruz Blues," a fictional retelling of the 1946 Mexican League season.

The original owner pasted in a box score of the game, which was won by Puebla 7-2.

The scorecard is printed on a rough, heavy cardstock. Front has some writing in pencil and the back has a bit of damage from where it was pasted in an album. I've only seen a handful of 1940's Mexican League scorecards and this is the only 1944 one I've come across. Rare? That's an understatement.

In honor of Ohtani setting the all time record (10) for most consecutive games with an RBI for a Dodger player (in game #82 of his first season with them), here is game 8 in Roy Campanella's 9 game streak from 1955.

As a bonus, Tommy Lasorda pitched, making his 7th appearance of 8 in his career with the Dodgers.

Dated May the 6th. 1876 The First season of the senior circuit.

1945 Kent Parker All Stars with Bob Feller vs KC Royals with Satchel Paige. Jackie Robinson was also in the lineup, 4 weeks before he signed with the Dodgers.

Also includes a cool mention of Paige K'ing Ruth 3 times. No idea if that is historically accurate.

That's a neat program, Jeff. I can't recall if the mentioning of Paige striking out Ruth is historically accurate, but of course their description behind the reason that Paige wasn't in the major leagues was spot on.

I have a program from the same game which is scored,. If you look at the scorecard you can see that for many of the names, a different player was written above. This game took place on 10/24/1945, the day after Jackie signed with the Dodgers. He had flown to NY to sign the contract and therefore was not there for this game.

Both Paige and Feller pitched 6 innings, with Piage giving up 1 run and K'ing 7 and Feller giving up 0 and K'ing 14.

The game is detailed in "Satch, Dizzy and Rapid Robert" by Timothy Gay.

There were multiple score sheets but only 3 or 4 filled out. One of the games included New Britain of which some claimed as world champs that year. Also one player by the name of Loomis was considered by some as inventing the dribble.

I don't collect programs or score cards. A friend recently sent me three programs from June 21st, 22nd and June 23, 1963 Red Sox vs the NY Yankees. Two of the programs are partially scored. All three programs have the same picture on the front cover.

That's awesome! I know that tickets have a larger fanbase, but the detail of a scored scorecard along with the vision of someone sitting at the game marking it up (and the other random ads and content in the scorecard) are magical to me.

Just won this. 1952 Ted Williams day program. The outer program with the Picture on front and stats on the back with a "regular 1952 scorecard for the game inside. First time I came across one.
The Fenway faithful honored Ted and wished him well as he was leaving to again serve his country as a Marine Pilot. Surprised and happy to have won this.

Now that I have the item in hand I don't think it was issued with the scorecard. First the crease on the front doesn't seem to affect the scorecard inside. And second the scorecard is pasted inside the Blue cover but there is
a scorecard on Ebay without Blue cover that doesn't have any damage on the back page . Those two things Lead me to believe that the Blue cover was a fan giveaway and is seperate from the scorecard. Although the version on ebay is not scored and could be from a differant game in the same series.
