Gary, I agree this is a beautiful set which is why I started the thread. We're trying to post a card each day in their order in the set so yours are both a little early as we are up to Joe Tinker for today. Please contribute any others that you may have on the day they come up.

Craig, does only one of the McIntyre variations have the no offer back? If so, which one, the one that came out later which I assume is the one with both Brooklyn and Chicago listed?

The McIntyre - Brooklyn card was corrected very early on in the production of T3s and will only be found with the 1-75 checklist back. The Brooklyn & Chicago updated version will be found with the 1-75, 1-76 and No-Ad backs.

Anyone pick up any of the T3s in the Love of the Game Auction? A PSA 1 Cobb (nice looking except for the pinholes) went for $7200 which seems pretty low to me.

I had bid on 76 of the T3 lots on day #1, so I could further the pursuit during extended bidding.
Bid on a few dozen more at midnight & woke up to find I won 5 of them.

I thought the Cobb was about right if a little high. I've been actively bidding on them, but I passed on that one after $6k. That's still a lot of $ for a card so you'd better be happy with it. I did pick up 3 T3's on the lower end, which was far fewer than I was bidding on overall. Prices were pretty strong, congrats to Al on what seems to me to be a very successful auction.

Not a great Wiltse on the front, but the back is where the coolness is :)

I guess I expected the Cobb to go for more since the picture was very nice and the grade was due to the pinholes. It will be interesting to see what the Cobb in REA goes for. It's graded AA and also has a very nice picture but it has some color added to one corner and a crease in another corner.

I agree, the image was very nice. I would say 3 out of 4 people I have ever met who collect the set are a hard stop at pinholes, which really sucks since so many have them. The pinhole through the name plate was an extra bummer.

Cy Young.

Oh, and pinholes on T 3’s can be very minor and i often don’t mind them, preferable to a big crease or lots of dirt or wear.

chadeast 11-29-2021 11:59 PM

I'm ok with pinholes as well, though not so much when they look more like nail holes :)

Same for me. Someone wanted the #44 in the LOTG auction this weekend more than I did, so the hunt continues.

I would guess more the fact that fewer of these 'no name' cards were requested in the first place, since all T3's were by definition chosen. No #44 for me.

EDIT on 12/24/21 to add my new #44.

On eBay, there are a large group of low grade T3s posted by the Greg Morris Cards graded card account. It looks like they are from the near set that sold recently on Collect Auctions. I don't see any of the cards that were pictured in the auction listing, but the grades of the ones that are listed seem to correspond to what was in the write up for the listing.

Hey Jayshum

Please explain to me why.....when Jay Wolt posted his T3 card of Doolan (back in Post #143), you did not "correct" him as you just did me for posting my Doolan cards ? ?

Furthermore, since NONE of the T3's that have been posted on you thread (so far) display this tougher back variation, I thought it would be informative to show it.
And, perhaps some T3 expert on this forum will chime in here regarding this variation.

Hi Ted - in looking back at the post from Jay Wolt that you referenced, someone had asked if there could be a post showing the size of T3s relative to standard cards so that was why Jay posted his Doolan at the time (along with a few others who did the same with other T3s and T9s). You're right that no one has posted the advertising back like you did because that is only on cards starting from #77 up which we just got to today.

The idea for this thread was to post the T3s in order, one each day, and for the most part, that has been happening. I have posted the same friendly message to a few others that I did to you to let them know what we were trying to do (in case they hadn't read through the entire thread from the start) with the hope that we could keep the cards posted in order as best as possible.

tedzan 12-08-2021 02:01 PM

It's been many years since I have collected T3's, and I had forgotten that only the Hi # group was printed with the TURKEY RED Cigarettes variation.
