Great news!

question for ya Bobby: is each person's submission listed consecutively? That appears to be the case. The cards I submitted are listed consecutively, but two of my cards have more than one copy on the list. Just wanna make sure I'm seeing the grades my cards received, not someone else's cards.

Thanks again for doing this :)

Everything should be grouped together. Key word being SHOULD.

If you submitted the same cards as someone else, your cards are the ones grouped together. I didn't take one of your cards and put it at random further on down the list.

Scott L. 05-28-2020 01:06 PM

Thanks for organizing this Bobby. I/you cracked 3 GAI first graded 52 Bowman's for me and they all got a number. I don't remember what GAI had them at but I'm pretty sure I only dropped a grade on one of them.

JollyElm 05-28-2020 02:02 PM

Holy mother of crud!!!! Half of my cards got N6'ed. How in heck is that possible??? I measured each one against a modern card and 90% of them have been in my binders since the 90's and not in someone's chop shop. This is unreal. Do I get some sort of vouchers for those non-graded cards? Crap!!!!!!!!!!!

I was not going to look but curiosity got the best of me. The cards submitted were fairly graded. One or two surprises in my favor. One card with evidence of trimming. Makes me feel guilty of wrongdoing. I purchased that card at a Tuff-Stuff show in Richmond, Virginia back in the 90's. Disheartening. I want to believe that the dealer was unaware that the card had been trimmed. Oh well.

Thank you Bobby.

bobbyw8469 05-28-2020 04:01 PM

I have some bad news. I have lost a member's card. This is a first for me. I feel like total shit. I don't think I can do these subs anymore.

BruceinGa 05-28-2020 05:19 PM

Bobby, I hope you will find it.
I forgot to request no qualifiers and received one OC. I used my "Grademaster Card Centering Tool" and with it the card appeared to not warrant an OC. Oh well.
I received one N8, Miscut. The front looks good but I'm guessing the reverse is miscut. I didn't scan the reverse.
I also received one N6.
There are a few disappointments but I'm learning.
Thanks Bobby for your time and effort.

It's gone...I think I subbed it to PSA and forgot to enter it on the form....of course they are saying they never got it.

T_Hamilton 05-28-2020 05:51 PM

What was the value of the lost card? When I pay you to ship my cards to me, I am more than happy to include an extra $20 to compensate the person for the lost card... accidents happen and you shouldn't be help responsible... you are going out on a limb and doing us all a huge favor with these group subs, while also taking on all the risk.

Maybe if more people add an extra $20 to their shipping cost you can make the person's card you lost whole while also not having to come out of pocket?

Really appreciate you running these... i dont have the time, patience or knowledge to do own subs.

The card was only a $50-$100 card....the money isn't the problem....the problem is that it is hard to find...It was a rare 1961 Union Oil card.....I personally have never even heard of the issue.

Mike D. 05-28-2020 06:23 PM

I second the thanks for doing this, and to say you can't beat yourself up about one mistake. You handle hundreds of cards in these subs, and do us all a great service. To make ONLY one mistake among hundreds is actually VERY impressive and a testament to the care you put into this.

I third this - thanks for doing this. You obviously do put a lot of time, effort and caring into these subs. I would not be surprised if one of our members just might have that Union Oil card.

The other error involves calling the card the right type due to the back (A coupon card - similar to a T206).

So this mistake happened on my card, it held up the submission for 3 months, and in the end they called it trimmed, so no grade.

But thanks Bob, I really appreciate all the work you put in.

Mike D. 05-28-2020 07:22 PM

This was my first ever PSA submission, and it was really interesting. I looked at my records, and I mailed my cards to Bobby on August 30th. So, at this point, this is like getting some FREE cards!

Overall, well worth the wait. I submitted 8 cards, a spattering of modern cards, ranging from 1988-2012.

Results were one 10, four 9's, two 8's, and a 7.

As it turns out, the one card I submitted that wasn't targeted for my personal collection is the one that got a 10...a 2010 Bowman Chrome Prospects BCP101 Anthony Rizzo Autograph. One just sold on eBay at auction for $200, and the only other one on eBay is listed BIN for $475. Considering I pulled this from a pack back in 2010, I'm pretty thrilled.

PSA 9's were:

1988 CMC Calgary Edgar Martinez 443
2006 Topps ‘52 Dustin Pedroia 40
2006 Topps ‘52 Dustin Pedroia 40
2009 Topps American Heritage Nathaniel Greene 29

Gotta love minor league team issues of Hall of Famers. None of these on eBay right now, and only 38 total graded.

The Pedroia RC's were bought off Sportlots in 2008 for $15.50 total. I'm a big Red Sox fan so thrilled those came back 9's. These represent 2 of the 80 of this card graded by PSA.

I'm also a Rhode Islander, and General Greene's homestead is about 5 miles from my house. This is apparently the second one of these cards to be graded by PSA (only one in the PSA registry, a 10). Just a fun one for the personal collection.

The 8's:

2009 Topps American Heritage Chrome C31 Benjamin Franklin
2006 Bowman Draft BDP22 Jon Lester White

Gotta love some Ben Franklin! One of only two copies of this card graded by PSA. This is just a fun one for the personal collection.

Again, Sox fan so a soft spot for Lester. Best I can tell this is the first "white" version graded by PSA.

The 7:

2012 Choice Salem Red Sox 5 Xander Bogaerts

Interested to take a closer look at this card when it comes back to see if I missed something. Pulled from a team set bought back in 2012, and only the 2nd of his card graded by PSA, so still a cool card.

So, overall, some nice grades, some low pops...and a ton of fun! Can't thank Bobby enough for doing this - so excited to have my first PSA submission "in the books"!

bengineno9 05-28-2020 08:50 PM

How many total cards submitted? Didn’t see mine posted.
Thanks.

bobbyw8469 05-28-2020 09:08 PM

484....This was the October sub....then another one was in December.

Bobby - as I've said B4, sometimes shit happens despite your best efforts to avoid it. So, stop beating yourself up over this. After all, it's only a damn piece of cardboard. Ain't the end of the world. As many have said above, thanks for taking on this task. :)

The only saving grace from the cards I submitted is the 1968 Topps Mantle that I cracked out of a PSA 7 ST slab to wipe away a bit of wax/gum residue (post #17), came back as a straight, stainless PSA 7. With my luck, I was expecting it to somehow drop to a 5 or 6.

That's the way it should be. I cleaned a 1961 Fleer Walt Bellamy PSA 9 (ST) and got a straight 9. Man, I wish I still had that one back!!

It most definitely is true. It was almost a 500 card order, with two errors, going through a pandemic.

You may be willing to give them a pass on this, but I wouldn't. Even at the rate of grading just 100 cards per month from this 500 card submission, they should have finished processing your order by the end of March, which would have been before they shut down operations due to COVID-19. It's just horrendous to get that kind of service.

10's are always fun (and profitable). You got a good eye Greg. If I remember right, you had a boatload of 9's as well.

JollyElm 06-08-2020 03:15 PM

It looks like Greg is yin, and therefore I am yang. No matter how beautiful some of my cards looked, the numbers were incredibly low. It was especially egregious with the 1971's...

Out of touch

With all that life has going on I’ve completely lost track of these threads. I remember sending some cards that must be in the December submission. When I sent them I never dreamed they’d be back by opening day 2020 but tha appears to be a possibility.

Thanks for running these Bobby. I usually end up enjoying reading the lists for the variety of each submission more than my own grades. Imagine what it must be like at PSA seeing such a variety across your grading table every day.

Most of those grades look pretty spot-on to me as well. Looks like they were perhaps toughest on the '68 Seaver, which looks super clean from the scan. And guessing the Pete Rose has a faint crease or surface wrinkle to warrant the "4"?

The Pete Rose has worn corners, printers trash in the lower right quadrant, and it not centered. "4" looks right to me.
