Happy to pick up this signed Gehringer on eBay yesterday... still amazed by his perfect penmanship

kamikidEFFL 05-26-2014 10:36 AM

So I snagged two more for my set last night from eBay. I'm only 10 away from completing one of my goals this year. Very excited that I'm almost at the half way point. I really have to start picking away at some of the bigger names though.

Got this in the mail today... highest graded version...not bad, huh? P.S. That black dot above the "M" in DiMaggio is on the scan and not really on the card. Wondering what would make this a 80/6 and not higher...

R314 1936 Goudey Wide Pens premium Type 3 borderless Chapman Werber

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...WERBER_NEW.JPG

.....just upgraded the type 3 borderless ; HELP NEEDED : I seem to remember within the last couple of years a board member listing an elderly relative's shortish wantlist , a father-in-law or grandfather perhaps , and this borderless version of the photo/card was on it.....if you know the board member I'm referring to could you please contact him and let him know about this and I'm sure we'll get something done......it's been a while and gosh I hope we are not too late but a wantlist for any senior collector is a big deal to this board , I'm sure. Thanks , MikeGarcia

The label is a little off-center left to right but the card is decent so I purchased the slab anyway. ;)

T201 low Grade Ed Walsh, SGC 20, looks good for the grade

kamikidEFFL 05-29-2014 03:54 PM

So not a card but hey most people on this site would agree pretty sweet piece to have. Got it today. Maybe this will be the kick in the rump i need to get it going on the monster.

I Only Smoke 4 the Cards 05-29-2014 04:11 PM

It's a great book. I enjoy reading the players after I acquire their cards.

kamikidEFFL 05-29-2014 04:48 PM

Yea I've already started reading some of the bios and such and it's making me very interested in starting this set

MattyC 05-29-2014 07:49 PM

Could not resist raw from the local card shop; rare feeling of that local buy. Paid low 3 loot and it 4'd, which was nice.

The Monster is a fun set to pursue. Just be ready to spend a small fortune if you intend on finishing the entire thing, even without the big four.

Good luck.

Finish the Monster, Bill, Heaven forbid! Then what would I do with my time?

Received this beauty in the mail from Lee at Sterling Sports Auctions today. It's been a long time since I have added any George Gibson cards to my collection.

Thanks again Lee!

Hi-
I was very happy to acquire a second HOF postcard this month. I got this one at a flea market. It is in rough condition, but did not cost much which is how I like it.

That's why I haven't started it yet haha. I'm not ready for a small fortune.

OT, but I love flea markets:

Thanks Jeff and Joe (and Derek from an earlier post)! I really like post cards but finding them at the price I want to pay is not easy.

This is true, Ed. I don't know what I'd do. Thankfully, by the time I finish the set, I'll be too old to care. :p

Well, at least you know what's next after you're done playing with the Goudey Gum cards.

Very true. Goudey Sets are moving along pretty quickly. Just to think last May 13' I started the set. At this rate maybe I have this set complete by next year. One can only hope.
