I have recently started to collect T206's again (third time) I picked these up this month on the bst and ebay.
(I posted these earlier, but the images didn't show...trying again) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../Topbmp-16.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...p-001bmp-9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...p-004bmp-8.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...p-002bmp-7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../Topbmp-15.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Top-012bmp.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...p-008bmp-3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...p-004bmp-9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../Topbmp-17.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...p-004bmp-7.jpg |

500th post and new picks
6 Attachment(s)
I thought I'd celebrate my 500th post with some of the latest familytoad incomings.
T204 Collins courtesy of B & L auctions E96 Mack, E210-2 York Caramel Sisler and Goslin ,T205 Schlei, and T206 Marquard just came back from a big SGC submission. I've had Marquard close to 20 years. Nice, eh? |
Congrats, Brian! Nice numerical determination by SGC on your Rube, and that's a sharp, clean image on the T204.

You could pair that up with an Obak Ten Million and you can start a weird name collection. |
Thanks Jeremy and TBob.I missed out on one a month or two ago and I'm glad I was able to pick up another one.Every T210 pose has a story to tell.At least that's what I like to believe.Take care guys.

The top 3 are the usual $75 rare cards that I like to buy. The imperial cabinet below is actually sharper than this scan shows. This scan is from the catalog because the cabinet is already stored away in a dark, climate-controlled place. It looks like it should be in a museum, but they would need to keep it in dark storage as well. Attachment 92980 |

Detroit Boy
1 Attachment(s)
For this I owe Gary Passamonte full credit and much gratitude. While I may never be able to positively identify the boy, I suspect he may have been the team mascot for either the NL Detroit Wolverines (1881-1888) or, perhaps more likely, the International Association Detroit Wolverines (1889-90) who would regularly visit Buffalo to play the Bison BBC. Both teams did have mascots at various times. If not a mascot, perhaps he is the son of a player. I also originally thought maybe a News Boy but it appears they (News Boys) almost always wore the newspapers name if a jersey was purchased as opposed to just the city.
Thank you Gary! Not only did you pick up something on my behalf but only asked for your cost in return, a very reasonable cost at that. |
Joe - I'm glad you have that. In the wrong hands it would turn into a 'Ty Cobb' rookie card!
|
That is sweet Joe! Congrats on a great pickup.

That cabinet is in the right place, Joe.

Cool cabinet Joe. Kudos to Gary.
The kid probably was traveling with the team, I can't think of another reason a kid in Buffalo would be sporting a Detroit uni. |

Decent OJs
5 Attachment(s)
The McGlone was previously posted raw last month but re-posting now that I've had the whole group graded.
Perhaps the nicest condition N172s I've ever had the pleasure to call my own with "like new" fronts and backs. These all came from a small collection in the UK. The seller, Lee Graves, found these buried with actress cards at an estate sale. He wasn't the only one to notice so the lot didn't go cheap but he still made out. Neat little treasures. |

Nice Joe! It looks like you won them all... I was the underbidder on the mays. (I think, or maybe the 2nd)

Joe, that is some gorgeous high-grade stuff! That Duffy is superb. Well done!

Also received a nice 1911 William Harris Obak in the mail today. It completes my run of catchers in all the teams in both the P.C.L. and the N.W.L. in the 1911 Obak set. Have most in catcher poses but needed a few portrait shots and 3 batting poses to complete the run.

Joe, just wow! They look way better than the scans from ebay congrats amazing cards!
The Detroit mascot...just icing on the cake green with envy over here great pick ups. :) Cheers, John |
UK OJs
John, Jim B, et al.
Thank you! It was and is a pleasure to see these cards survive in this condition. There are certainly many other good looking OJs, some being in your collections, but always nice to see the population grow. On average, it seems that the cards that have been cared for by the British have fared better than those here in the States. Unfortunately, not many have been cared for by the Brits. I do wonder when these cards found their way to Britain. Was a British collector responsible for the cards crossing the Atlantic or did Goodwin send a small number of cards in their export products? I suspect a collector was responsible for the cards crossing the Atlantic shortly after they were produced. Interestingly, all but one card from the grouping of ten were from 1889, the lone exception being Radbourne's 1887 card which had a little more wear on it (but still beautiful). I bid on what I felt were the highest graded examples, especially those with a healthy border size. I won each one I bid on except the final card, Swartzel, as my total bill was adding up quickly and I wasn't 100% comfortable with buying outside the US. Congrats to those who won the other five examples, they were all good buys. |

I can't beat those Old Judges that Joe picked up, but I did grab a nice item this week...my first (and only) Honus Wagner card!
It's a 1909 R.W. Johnston Studios Triple-Fold PC (postally used in 1909). When fully expanded, the PC width is too large for my scanner, so I showed only two of the panels (one of which includes Wagner, third from end). |
Michael,
Those are two nice Mattys! JimB |

Pretty nice 1932 Fay Thomas Zeenut I picked up. It has his autograph on the back. Not sure if that is going to help it or hurt it. Any thoughts?

Nice Red Border pickups TBob and Rob.Great looking examples. Here is one of a few I picked up this week.

This sat on ebay for quite a while, with no takers. I finally did the BIN. The AZO stamp box on the reverse dates it to 1904-18. I'm thrilled with it.
(I'm reasonably certain that Andy did NOT hit a home run with this swing) **will replace with better pics |
