Here are my three favorites.

The "Thorpe Returns to Carlisle" postcard of him putting the shot always seemed very cool to me as well. I know there was a raw copy that sold on eBay about a year ago, but that postcard does seem slightly more rare than the Thorpe at the 1912 Olympics postcard from earlier in the thread.

Here are a couple of fantastic postcards I got today. The first is a 1941 Real Photo Postcard that includes a very young Bob Feller. The second is an autographed 1956 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Issued Postcard of Bill Mazeroski. Thanks for the Maz PC Andrew!

Great pick-ups. Happy to know a '56 cancel date exists to confirm that mine was issued in '56 as well. You know where to turn if you want a "nicer" example ;)

Here's a group of postcards of PCL Hall of Fame catcher James "Truck" Hannah, spanning most of his illustrious career as a player and manager:

1911 Butte Miners (Union Association)
1912-13 Chattanooga Lookouts (Southern Association)
1918-1920 NY Yankees, Cyanotype (AL)
1930s LA Angels (PCL)

Also, his 1910 release from the Western Canada League Calgary Bronchos, written on the back of a Dugdale's Billiard Parlor slip, and signed by Calgary skipper Bill Carney. Carney's major league career consisted of two games with the 1904 Chicago Cubs.

Here are a few RPPCs of hard-luck pitcher Jack "Crab" Warhop, at the beginning of his professional career with the 1906-1907 Wisconsin State League Freeport Pretzels.

Warhop went 82-20 in three minor league seasons from 1906-1908, leading to his 8 year career with the NY Highlanders/Yankees,1908-1915.

18 year professional baseball career notwithstanding, Warhop is most remembered for giving up Babe Ruth's first two major league home runs.

Warhop also played for the Nebraska Indians...I have yet to locate him in one of my images though.

Johnny Kling's Pennant Cafe, 1911-1918
 

Chicago Cubs catcher Johnny Kling had a restaurant and bar called the Pennant Cafe from 1911-1918 in the basement of the Sexton Hotel (later called the Dixon Hotel) in Kansas City, Missouri. As seen in this 1911 era trade card for the cafe, baseball bats and ball motifs adorn the pillars and the tile floor, the fixtures resemble baseballs, and baseball stadium murals grace the walls. Very difficult to find. Given the subject matter, it's easy to see how few got saved (unlike a postcard commemorating a World Series victory, for example).

Given that I want no rancor between you two fine Northwest fellows, and that my lawn is pretty small, I might have to hang on to Jeff T for the time being.

David, here's your 1911 Victoria Bees goofing around, Ten Million 4th from right.

Tremendous Vic Bees postcard. Any idea where it was taken? According to Tom H's write-up at the Safeco "Pacific Northwest Baseball" exhibit, "The Victoria team played in a ballpark at the end of the streetcar line at Windsor Park in the neighbouring community of Oak Bay." (I notice that tricky Canuck Tom slipped a "u" into neighbor). I live 1/4 mile from Windsor Park and there is no topography nearby like there is beyond centerfield. Tom is not one to make unsubstantiated statements which makes me wonder if the photo was shot at one of the other Northwestern League ballparks, perhaps Bellingham.

Probably not Bellingham, as their lone year in the Northwestern League was 1905. I've not tried to match it up with other NWL parks, but will see what I can figure out, and let you know.

That McDonald Victoria Obak is stellar, but I'd REALLY like to get my hands on the Mac T4 :eek:
