Thanks to the valuable research information in the book, THE PHOTOGRAPHIC BASEBALL CARDS OF GOODWIN & COMPANY (1886-1890) by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson and the related threads on this board I was able to identify and purchase a Wm Wires Old Judge proof of Julie Freeman and a Hubbell Cabinet card of Mike King Kelly.

I also picked up this OJ proof Sewell on BST. Thanks very much.

Isn't it fake?

oldjudge 01-31-2013 05:13 PM

That photographer would not have shot the Old Judge proof of Freeman and I have no idea why the Kelly would be on a mount like that. Are you sure that both of those photographs are albumen? If you don't know how to check his please email me at oldjudge@gmail.com and maybe I can help.

Jay

Look very fake to me, Seward looks ok though.

here is where I bought the Kelly and Freeman...

www.liveauctioneers.com/item/15391900

I bought the Sewell on bst and am only hearing good things about it.

I took a flyer on the other two cards in the Stanton auction and may have messed up on those. What do y'all think?

This one arrived today!

RCMcKenzie 01-31-2013 08:39 PM

Cool card, Erick. I used to have a Hornsby from that series.

................

On a side note, sorry to hijack your thread, TBob.

An alert reader just informed me that if my Kelly card were real, it would have sold for $10,000.

Here is an e122 Peckinbaugh (Peckinpaugh) that I got from Bagger's....

Also, after some guidance , I was able to look at the 3 cabinets under magnification. The Kelly and Freeman have a dot matrix pattern and are no good. The Sewell is an authentic card. Thanks to those who helped on authentication and non-authentication of these.
