Charles Conlon Type 1 photo of Hod Eller
2 Attachment(s)
Recently I was able to match up this circa 1920-1921 Strip Card of no-hit pitcher Hod Eller with my Charles Conlon Type 1 photo of Eller from 1919-1920.
I recognized the image right away. Not a bad pickup for under $10! |

That's Hilltop Park, not Huntington Grounds, in Conlon's 1904 image of George Winter.

While definitely a more modern feel, I recently picked up (off eBay) the slide used for Cal Ripken's 1993 Leaf Studio card

Interesting. The T-206 Keeler batting pose is based on a 1909 Keeler spring training photo taken by Spooner & Wells in Macon, Georgia.

This is a Bain stamped Photo, dated March 22 1910.........those hands and fingers, the hat and the cocked head are pretty hard to deny. I would love to see that Spooner& Wells photo ? |
Photos Used for Cards
Google "Willie Keeler images", and you will see the full image as used in two publications. I know that the photo was taken by Spooner & Wells in 1909 spring training in Macon because I have owned or viewed more than 100 of their images from that training. Macon's stadium is distinctive because of the scalloped roof overhangs on the grand stand. 1909 was the only year that the Highlanders trained in Macon. To my knowledge, there are no known records that Bain took 1909 photos of the Highlanders at spring training, and I am not aware of any actual such photos.

Definitely not the t206 photo but still cool.

This 1923 photo of WaJo that was sold in the very recent Heritage auction:https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-c...kedLots-101116 was also used for WaJo's W503 card (shown below). Interestingly, the W503 cards are cataloged as being a 1922 issue, but this photo & card match suggests the W503 issue is no earlier than a 1923 issue.

Herb Pennock photo used for 1928 W504, Yuengling's, Tharp's Ice Cream etc issues. What's left of the caption on the reverse indicates that this was also the first photo of Pennock in a Yankee uniform. News accounts have Pennock arriving + suiting up at spring training in New Orleans on March 14, 1923.
The stamp on the reverse is Pacific and Atlantic Photos, Inc. The card isn't mine, btw! https://i.ibb.co/vqxJvP4/pennock-w-card-sm.jpg <b> https://i.ibb.co/BT5D8Fv/pennock-rev-sm.jpg |

Photos that match baseball cards
2 Attachment(s)
Hi, I am new Net 54, and I am not very good with computers. But I have a collection of some 8x10 black &white baseball photos from the 1940s. 184 in the collection. Over the years have tried to find out more about them, let's just say no one can tell me what I have for sure. I have been told everything from- photostats for baseball cards or that they were sold commercially through catalogs and magazine ads in the 1940s-50s, or that were photo packs. But that just does not fit the profile for these, yes they come close but No concrete evidence as to what.
OK, many of the images on the photos match baseball cards down to the letter. They do utilize the exact same images as the photos. 1947 Bond Bread cards that match: Ted Williams, Harry Brecheen, Aaron Robinson, Tommy Holmes, Bob Elliott, Ewell Blackwell, Lou Boudreau, Vern Stephens, Slats Marion, Bob Feller, Johnny Vander Meer, Andy Pafko, and many others. Note on Bobby Doerr's image-the 1947 baseball card and photo spell his name as Bobbie Doerr. Attachment 484040And many of the photos match the 1952 Berk Ross Cards. About 11 in all. The Jackie Robinson and 1952 card- you see the scoreboard and it says 1946. And Satchel Paige's photo is of him playing for the Black Yankees in 1941. I know this because the exact image of him is in the Bettmann/Corbis archives. |
I have to admit I am not really a photo person (love photo's) but no experience on them the picture valuations are so different hard to know what price is right for pictures
But it would be pretty cool to own the card and the photo that it was base off of. |
Yes, that is the plan, I know have 5 that match.

Harry Steinfeldt Cabinet photo taken between 1898-1902 at Meins Studio in Cincinnati Ohio. This is the exact image used to produce both the E107 card and W600 cabinet. Sold in Hunt a few years back and traded hands a couple of time since then. Has now found a permanent home. |

Well, that narrows it down to 1898/99. Probably his earliest image as a player as well.
And I guess it goes without saying that Meins probably took all of those images and cabinets of each player(or perhaps multiple copies) existed at one time. Thanks!! |

A composite press photo from September 1947 for an article discussing Kiner's chasing Babe's mark of 60 home runs. Used for 51 Topps and 47-66 Exhibits (not my cards). It ain't pretty, but it's cool.
