I'm on the slow boat - it will take me five years total going at night because I work full time plus some. It's very interesting. I also have 2 Master's degrees, so I'm either a classroom addict or completely incapable of making up my mind.

I collect pre-1915, mainly Detroit players with an unreachable goal of having one Detroit player from every set. I like that it's unreachable because it means I will be in the pursuit for a long long time.

I also look for pre-1915 cards that show actual female players, not models. Those are few and far between. Finally, I've started to junk around a little bit with HOF portraits from the T206 set. They just look really nice.

Joann

Posted By: Ken
My name is Ken. I am a 45 year-old chemist.

I've been lurking for about a month now, and this is my first post. My collecting interest is acquiring an example of every Hall-Of-Famer. Using my childhood cards as a base (Topps from 1950's - '70's), I began buying prewar cards about 3 years ago, mainly off of ebay. I have only two criteria:

1) That the card be contempory to the player's active era
2) That it be authentic!

I do not care about which type or set the card is from. Generally, if given the choice, I will opt for the type of which I have the least examples. The more eclectic, the better. I also am not concerned with the condition of a card, but instead seek bargin-basement prices! I know this may not be sound, investment-wise, but I really have no intention of ever reselling. I actually think that cards with some wear & tear are a bit more nostalgic and capture the history more for me. But that's just me.

My HOF set is currently about 90% completed, not counting the people who seem to be impossible (about half the Negro-leaguers and a handfull of pioneers/executives). Looking forward to conversing with others who are in the know about this stuff. I'm fairly new, but learning more and more, and loving every minute of it!

it's that time again....How old are you and what do you do?
Posted By: barrysloate
Hi Ken- welcome to the board!

Some of the tougher HOFers are the 19th century players, such as George Wright and Al Spalding; and even guys like Bid McPhee, Kid Nichols, Harry Wright and Amos Rusie can set you back quite a bit. I'm sure you've found difficulties in that area.
