This is post #153.
Tommy Davis holds the Dodgers' franchise record for RBIs in a season with 153. In 1962 Davis, who also led the league in batting that year with a .346 average, had 153 RBIs while on his way to finishing 3rd in NL MVP voting. Interestingly enough, over his career Davis hit a total of 153 home runs. |
A Dubious Record

By the end of 1891 Curt Welch became the first player to be hit by 154 pitches! Ouch. I would add that Dave Nicholson easily reached and surpassed 152 strikeouts several years before George Scott mentioned in post 152. |
Billy Hamilton (base stealing phenom of the 21st century, not the base stealing phenom of the 19th century) set the all-time MINOR LEAGUE record for stolen bases in a season when he swiped 155 bases in 132 games during the 2012 season.

In 1936, Hal Trosky set the Indians franchise record for RBI in a season with 162 RBI. It was broken 63 years later during a mind blowing 1999 season by Manny Ramirez, who happens to be the only player, not just on the Indians but in all of MLB, to equal or better Trosky's total over the last 80 years.

In 1961 two players became first to play in 163 games in a season. The last game for both teams was October 1st so the record is shared by
Brooks Robinson and Rocky Colavito |
Looks like we need a kick start at 164, but don't you guys remember when Al Spalding rocked the baseball world by setting the all-time career record for putouts by a pitcher in 1875 with 164.
Needless to say he broke his own record in 1876.:D |
"Rocked the baseball world", Lol. I've got two more...
More recently, Joe Maddon rocked the baseball world by setting a new all time record for successful replay challenges with his 165th!!! |
Perhaps more impressively, Sam Thompson set the single season RBI record in 1887 with 166.
|
In 1887, Tip O'Neill set the record for runs scored in a season with 167.
|
Chris Davis holds the record for lowest single-season BA (min. 500 PAs) with a whopping .168 in 2018.
|
Aroldis Chapman has the fastest pitch at 169Km/h (105 mph)
|
Babe Ruth set the record for walks in a season with 170 in 1923, a record that would stand for 78 years.

We seem to have reached a temporal setback here at 171... I'll offer this, and will step aside if someone has a better offering.
