Yes, Sosa, Aaron, and Mathews are the answers. An honorable mention is McCovey who also played in the AL for part of a season with Oakland; however, he didn't hit any home runs there.
Meanwhile, the other 5 players are NL lifers: Bonds, Mays, Schmidt, Banks, Ott. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk |

Great trivia question. I admit to finally resorting to Google to find out it was Sosa. My first thought was McCovey, but I couldn't remember if he hit a homer with Oakland. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
With the arrival by mail of my 67T Fergie Jenkins, I am at last able to post a 100% done Board #2 for my Top 100 display.
In contrast, Board #1 has 11 placeholders--the bottom row of 59F Williams cards and the 40PB Klein--that will ultimately be replaced. Will take a while though. Combined, when finished, the two boards will feature my personal slate of the 100 greatest players from 1933-1980. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d8855f12f3.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...62da8a6741.jpg |

Wednesday mail day. Nothing super exciting to write home about, but I've always loved this card. Thrilled that it can still be had so cheaply...

Still remember getting that card out of a pack in 1958. As a kid growing up in St Louis, it was a big deal

While these cards have apparently been in my collection for a while, they are a "new" find for me. I was recently flipping through a box of off grade 60 Topps dupes, and noticed these 5. They all appear to be 60 Venezuelan Topps cards. Three have the CR, two do not, but they are all consistent in print quality, etc. Over the years, I wonder how many of these 60 (and 59, 62) V cards I have unknowingly just thrown into some off grade lot and sold off.
|
If those are Venz, they're among the cleanest I've ever seen. Nice find.

I love the comment about accidentally throwing them in some lot. I got mine graded because I was afraid my wife would one day do that when going through my collection.... |

Hopefully I will avoid accidently including any more in lots. Since I found a 59 V card in a random stack of cards, I have been more careful when going through 59, 60, and 62s looking for these V cards....the dullness of their appearance (at least on the 59 and 60s) have been the give away. Kind of reminds me of looking through 68s for MBs. |

I'm sure everybody now wants to look through their old doubles to see if any Venezuelans linger there. Can someone who is familiar with that issue start a new thread showing us clueless folks how to spot telltale signs of those cards across the years they were issued? Or, if the topic has already been handled around here before, perhaps a link to the thread(s)?

and back to our show....
my first foray into 50's:
http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/...psj9lmegep.jpg they were pasted in a scrapbook and removed at some point so all are in pretty beat/poor condition, but 217 total cards for $150 i just couldnt say no! --mike kilo |

Easiest way to tell the 1967's is that they don't have a white border. This is to say that the photo goes right to the edge of the card. Venezuelans are most easily distinguished in hand. They are thinner, and made of a softer, cheaper stock. There is virtually no gloss. They are more prone to surface damage as well as yellowing or staining. |

Very happy with these. My first Exhibit! I have not measured the lettering with a ruler, but from the guides I've looked at I believe this is a 1950 Exhibit. It may not be as nice of a card as his 1950 Bowman...but it's not nearly as expensive either. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I love Exhibits and that Jackie is awesome!

February pickups
Thanks. I've been looking for a Jackie in mid-grade shape for a while and was really just balking at how expensive his 1950's Topps cards in any kind of condition have become. So this is a double win in that not only do I love this card, I think I have opened myself up to the world of Exhibits finally! They're really cool.

Speaking of Venz, I had a good mail day. Here are my newest Venz additions. The Torre is my favorite of this bunch.

I now have 7 cards for the 68 Venz Red Sox team set and 24 total 68 Venies. |
Cool Jackie exhibit.

Picked this up at the Philly Show today. It just called out to me from a dealer's bargain box...my first '48 Bowman, my first vintage Johnny Mize.
