Sorry, I just realized this should have gone in March Pickups under Water cooler talk. If a mod wants to move it, please? My apologies.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I do not see Musial in this photo. June Allyson (note spelling) yes. To her left, right of the photo is Enos Slaughter. The other two I can not ID. Look like coaches to me.

Did that come off of the display that just sold on eBay? I was wondering if that was actually a Worch-issued store display since it was found in St. Paul and looks a little too professional for being home-made.

That doesn't "burst my bubble," because I never had a bubble to burst. I bought this because it was there and 1954 Cardinals, which I think someone on this forum will like (yes, I could very easily be persuaded to part with the photo). I never noticed, though, how much Slaughter and Musial look alike from profile. The long, pointy nose; attached ear-lobes, similar smiles and eyes. I also was thrown by the fact that Slaughter played for the Yankees in 1954. Thanks for the correction. I also "note" the spelling of June Allyson. I'm not sure what possessed me to spell her name wrong.

Few of the pickups from Sterling came in today. I am expecting some other cards in this week so more to come folks.

My first E90-1 Series Card ever

Scored these two for a lil more than I wanted to spend but great looking pieces for my set.

A tougher t209 type than Hoffman, which I have, added to my collection. Won this auction last night--photo, apparently from the railroad company's files, of the Chicago White Sox train stopping under the famous Hanging Bridge in Royal Gorge, Colo., in 1910 on the way to the Coast for spring training. A different photo shows up in tinted postcards and when I posted mine a few days ago it has sparked a popular threat over at the main board where experts have been IDing the players. Fascinating detective work, recommend you check it out.

John,

I actually offered him more money after the purchase. I messaged the seller and told him he had it undervalued and offered him a fair price. He said he would pick up T cards for a buck or two when he was younger and said he has owned the card for a long time. He thanked me for being honest and sent the card.

Cheers!

Admittedly not the sexiest gals at the dance, but how often can you pick up two prominent hall of famers from the 1920s and have change left from your Benjamin. Add a little background and there you go.

Just got these back from grading and was very pleased with my Gehringer coming back as a 3 was once a 2.5 so always like a bump in a grade. As for the others knew they would come back 1's but again just wanted them graded. A big thanks to bobbyw8469 for letting me piggyback on his order. So this is what I got in today.

1905-15 G.D.&D. Artist Signed Baseball Postcard series, this one picturing a Cleveland player (what you can see of him, anyways). Didn't realize until I found this issue in the Sports Postcard Price Guide (1998 by J.L. Mashburn, Pg 94) that the series includes PCs from 12 different teams (Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Detroit, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, New York, St. Louis, Cleveland, Chicago, and another New York for good measure), all with different pictures and phrases. Neat Team/Type/PC if you like this sort of thing.

Some more really nice finds, guys. I especially like these:

Eyed Bugs, got him. Note: I only have 3 T3s myself, but it always amazes me that many claim they are "most beautiful" cards of all...and the size is certainly special...and you can display them around the home as art, not true for many (much smaller) cards...there are even two types of backs to add a little variety...yet relatively few purchase or collect them, and prices not really high, all things considered...plus, plenty of ungraded out there if that's your thing...

Thanks guys. Couldn't believe it when I found it, and the dealer was very reasonable on price. Not like I stole it, but it was too good a deal to pass up.

kamikidEFFL 03-22-2014 02:31 PM

Man I love the 33 Goudey's. I just could never complete that set with the ruths and gehrigs

Lgarza99 03-22-2014 03:37 PM

That's a great Ott! My wife calls him the mean guy every time I look at available cards of him. I'm just waiting for that fair price too. Gongrats!

I think this might be my first time posting a legitimate pre-war pickup in here... and more importantly...

this is my FIRST t206 :) Picked this one up today (with the help and encouragement of my wife) - scanner is offline for the time being, so I had to use the camera...

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9f2f2e3.jpg

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6113c375.jpg

It's a beater and there are two specks of paper loss on the back - but the crease doesn't take away from Matty's face, and the registration and colors look great in person... and did I mention, it's my first t206.

I'm not a t206 guy, but I love this card! Great centering and "great condition for the technical grade" card!
