Philpot Studio Postcard 1915 Sanford, ME
1 Attachment(s)
This postcard arrived today featuring the 1915 Sanford, Maine Team, the 1915 Champions of Maine and New Hampshire. Anyone guess who the famous ballplayer is in the front row left wearing the nice sweater? His hometown was Sanford, Maine which is about 30 minutes west of where I live.

Another Hap Hogan 1911 Obak
2 Attachment(s)
Picked this one up on my big night on ebay a few days ago. It was already a favorite pose of mine and when I noticed the difference between it and my original copy I decided to grab it as well. The Obak sets are full of unusual oddities.

Freddy Parent
2 Attachment(s)
Rhett,
It certainly is Freddy Parent sitting in the front row on the left. As you probably know he was born in Biddeford, Maine and lived and died in Sanford, Maine. I was surprised to see he lived to be 96 when he passed in 1972. He was also on the Red Sox 1st World Series team in 1903. Patrick |

Half dozen obaks
6 Attachment(s)
Here are the 4 1911 Obaks and the 2 1910 Obaks I picked up of eBay last week from one seller. My biggest night ever on eBay. The Jack Fournier 1910 Obak has a "Smoke Obak" back and the Hugh Smith has a "Always A Pleasure" back, which is my 4th back for his 1910 Obak.

Just got around to scanning these.
1. The Duffy from ebay. Sorely undergraded due to a speck of paper loss on the back and a small scuff by the sock. For what I paid, I'll take it! 2. The Nee from Joe's Vintage Auction last week. Paid on Wed., received on Sat. No buyers premium & $3 for postage. Now THAT'S how to run an auction! Also way undergraded IMO, again a tiny nick in the back. About as nice a centering for a minor leaguer as I've seen. 3. The Mitchell from David B Vintage. Just a pencil mark on the back for the low grade (no creases, nice corners). Just wanted a Zeenut type card. Cool old car in the background and a full front jersey view. |
(wonder if it still runs)
Nice pickup on the Zeenut Mitchell...it is a cool, inexpensive alternative to the Waner Zeenut card that has the old Ford in the background.

really wasn't planning on a sovereign (only one in my set), but this will do for now:

Great pick ups on the OJ Griffith & Welch. Those are very strong images for typically very weak exposures.

Great AB scan! Is there a significance of all of those players together or am I just missing something?
|
Thanks Mike, no significance really, just digging ABs lately. I picked them as most are the second known example/would be highest graded.
|
Great cards, everybody!!!
Jon, that Shoeless Joe is incredible. Chris, those AB's are gorgeous! Talk about eye candy. |

Beautiful stuff everyone!! A couple of Christmas presents from my wife, picked up locally:
Sincerely, Clayton P.S. Merry Christmas & happy New Year to all. |
Clayton, what's up? Your wife has a great eye for 206's! One thing I've been impressed with today is the amount of wives that picked out great looking 206's or other cardboard for gifts...amazing! They must have a built in gene to help them or something ;)

1904 Pacific National League Pass
2 Attachment(s)
The Pacific National League was formerly the Pacific Northwest League. There's a great deal of history behind the name change and what happened next, more than space here allows. As the pass shows, in 1904 the league had dropped to four teams: the Boise Fruit Pickers, Spokane Indians, Butte Miners, and Salt Lake City Elders. If you have early Pacific Northwest baseball material to sell or trade, please contact me. Thanks.

I loved the centering, color and focus on the Brown, one of my favorite T206 portraits.
Also added a higher grade Kashin type card. |
