That forum idea was short-lived. I've been meaning to take it down for some time. Thanks for the reminder. I took it down. Any more helpful tips?

Also, a solo practitioner should, of course, have references to the quality of his work on his website. Nobody would begrudge that. If that was all we had here, I hardly think it would be worth mentioning.

In all honesty, I hope Jeff keeps it up there because it is really pretty funny. I'm thinking of adding the Law&Order theme music and putting it on YouTube to see if we can get it to go viral.

There is a fine line between quality advertising and sharing with prospective clients that this lawyer has an ego the size of Manhattan.

calvindog 08-06-2012 10:12 AM

Except I actually have clients who hire me because of my past, public successes. Unlike you who has neither.

Now care to stop obsessing about me and get back to the issue raised on this thread?

It's a snotty way to disagree with someone's statement. I don't think regular board posters should be snotty to Leon.

I was thinking more along the lines of "Glory Days". Or "What have you done for me lately".

(Sorry Jeff, I couldn't resist. Keep it current. ;))

Paul,

You just sound like you’re on your third glass of Bitter Grape Vineyard’s 2012 grand reserve. Not looking to debate but I don’t see what is so outlandish about Jeff’s webpage advertising and your issue with it. I can see he ticked you off by ragging your blog....but not sure how that links to his business??

Second even if Jeff has a huge ego, which for the record he’s always been down to earth to me. Name one successful defense attorney who doesn’t or hasn’t had a huge ego.

It takes a certain level of arrogance and ego to fight some of these cases etc. I don’t think many folks would have said Johnny Cochran, Gloria Allred, Anne Bremner, F. Lee Bailey & Robert Shapiro were salt of the earth.

I have twice the underserved ego Jeff has and nobody in the NY times has said anything about me…Jeff pass on your PR guy to me right away will ya. :)

Cheers,

John

I get it. You on Jeff's side.

wonkaticket 08-06-2012 10:30 AM

Yes in terms of Jeff takes a shot at your blog. Then your argument is to say he has an ego, and he has the nerve to post kudos from past trials that others have said about him. Yes I disagree with you and don’t follow your logic…they seem to be unrelated.

wonkaticket 08-06-2012 10:42 AM

In terms of this find Jeff has some very good points in here. As a bidder of decent volume with HA I’d be lying saying it didn’t make a bit nervous knowing these guys can bid in their own auctions.

With regards to how it was handled it could have been done better to maximize in some ways no doubt. I too felt it fell a bit short but that could have been because there was so much hype. Sort of like everyone telling you for months how awesome this movie was…then you see it and you’re sort of like "ehhh". Not that the movie was bad it was quite good just not what was built up in your mind after every jackwagon telling you around the water cooler at work how the movie changed their life.

Jim B brings up a good point too they still have about 8 billion more of these high grade cards to sell…so money will be rolling in for quite some time.

Cheers,

John

This is probably more easily understood as a continuation of the Legendary Auctions thread, in which Jeff called me a baby girl, Googled my Dad, etc.

calvindog 08-06-2012 11:07 AM

Dude, stop crying. When you were climbing through my window in order to boil my pet rabbit I googled "Paul Misfud" of "Paul Mifsud", whatever the hell your name is and some dead guy with the same name as you was the only thing that came up.

Perhaps you'd feel better if you went back into your T206 Collector Forum and played with all your imaginary friends who are just about to start posting. Sort of like an adult version of a little girl's tea party for her stuffed animals.

Paul you attacked Jeff to start this, not vice versa, unless I missed a post. You read an awful lot into a single "LOL" which I would guess did not upset Leon at all.

Jeff and I agree on almost everything concerning the hobby. Jeff is a bit more zealous than I am. We are good hobby friends. I don't think his comment was meant in a derogatory way towards me. I didn't take it that way either.

I also politely disagree with Heritage's stance on their own bidding. I do think they are a very honest and reputable company and have no issue consigning (when it makes sense since I run a small auction too) or bidding with them.

Tears of laughter, my dear friend. Why do you think I keep coming back for more? You entertain me.

If it makes you feel better to visit my website and Google my name, or my Dad, or a deceased relative, I'm all for it. A little "pot calling the kettle black" on the obsession angle, but it really doesn't bother me.

The simple fact is you're an arrogant fame whore, and I'm tired of seeing you talk about yourself and scoff at other people's opinions on every thread.

P.S. I admit that I "started it" on this thread. And I don't think Leon's feelings were bruised by Jeff's LOL.

Re: Black Swamp auction

Heritage clearly did the right thing here. Just imagine if they had trickled them out and you're a well heeled and frequent bidder. You win the 27/30 lot for $1.2 mil. Then, month after month, auction after auction, high grade E98s appear with regularity. When you discover the truth about the find, how much business are you going to do with Heritage in the future?

An earlier post asked about the ethics of an attic find of multiple T206 Wagners. Of course the vast difference here is that the finder will probably have no ongoing presence in the hobby, and so the financial gain will trump the damage to his reputation.

I was trying to embed Jeff's South Park video to make it easier for everyone to find, but apparently embedding has been disabled. Oh well.

I figured since he posted the same clip twice, he meant to post this one:

Without house bidding, Heritage might br forced to create an intuitive website.

Sorry for the confusion -- Net54 embedded video works great. I think Viacom, or whoever holds the rights to that South Park video, blocked embedding the video in external websites.

4815162342 08-06-2012 03:36 PM

I have never seen that movie, and after seeing that video I never will. That was demented.

For what it's worth, the guy in that corner has a cool web site that originally led me to (the old) Net54 forum, and the guy in that corner has a cool radio show.

Tell Curtis I said "Hi." And that he convinced me that the Yankees were going to come back in the 1996 Series after they were down 2-0 to Atlanta. He predicted that they were going to go down to Atlanta and then take 4 straight... and he was right.

calvindog 08-06-2012 04:07 PM

Um when I discussed you for 6 minutes on air he professed no knowledge of who you were.

Must have been a scintillating 6 minutes:

Jeff: "Now I want to talk about this guy on this website I frequent--

Curtis: "Sounds fascinating. Go on..."

Jeff: "Well, every time I act like an asshole he has the nerve to call me on it. I mean, why doesn't he just realize I'm the king of all media?

Curtis: "I know. And you get to talk with me on AM 970 every day for two hours. You're huge!"

Jeff: "I know. And I'll call him girl, and Sally, and $32... but he just keeps on writing about what a terrible person I am."

Curtis: "That's crazy. Wait.... does he know how important you are?"

Jeff: "I think so. He's seen my website, and it says that I'm brilliant."

Curtis: "You are. You are. So, what kinds of stuff does he say?"

Jeff: "He says that I'm an arrogant fame whore. Do you believe that?"

Curtis: "Jeff, in his defense -- I mean... you are."

Jeff: "But he says it in a sort of mean way. Like he doesn't really like me."

Curtis: "That's strange. I thought everyone liked you."

Jeff: "Me too."

Curtis: "But I guess this guy doesn't."

Jeff: "Guess not."

Curtis: "So what else you want to talk about?"

Jeff: "I don't know. I saw this fuzzy thing in the corner of my bedroom this morning."

Curtis: "Was it dust?"

Jeff: "Yes, Curtis, I believe it was."

Curtis: "We have a great radio show together. I hope it never ends."

Jeff: "Me neither. Let's hug -- but like real men."

[They Hug. Show ends for the day, but there'll be more fun tomorrow!]

calvindog 08-06-2012 04:24 PM

Tune in tomorrow as we'll be discussing you again on air. Moral of the story: don't mess with someone who has a radio show with 50,000 listeners in the city in which you work.

PS: in case that isn't clear -- that's 50,000 more people than who have joined and posted in your "T206 Collector Forum."

Good Lord, you really are as big a pr**k in real life as you play on this board, aren't you. Mr. T206 isn't far behind, btw, but it beggars belief, mine anyway, that you're a supposedly highly respected law man and yet you act like you're about eleven years old.

While I don't do it often I think this thread has run it's course. It's not fair to the family for, what was good discussion, to turn into a pissing match between some folks. At the end of the day the family is happy and got exactly what they wanted, transparency. The small windfall was fun too, I am sure :). It's great they have become closer from it and I am sure, if you asked them, that is what they would tell you. It's what they told me. best regards
