Johnny....nice pick-up on the JuJu Bender. As Leon said, very tough type card. Probably only a handful of any player out there. Congrats.

Who says it doesn't pay to read this Board? In reading the thread about the 1909 Obak Gandil, I checked the seller's auctions and found he had some cards which did not sell, probably because of the insufficient listing. I bought a nice 1910 T212 Briggs which not only has the rare 150 Subjects backs but has a ghost player image on the back, all for less than $50. Not too shabby. :D

Steve, nice pickup! I blinked and missed this one. Bad for me but good for you. Congrats!

mannybb24 02-24-2011 06:26 AM

Thanks Dan!! A few board members contacted me before I saw it or else I probably would have lost out as well........a big thanks to those who helped me out!!
I have only seen 3 of these up for public sale in the past 5 years or so, I believe, so I'm definitely happy to add this one to my collection.

My best "looking" T206 SL

Bought this raw in a lot last month and received back from SGC this month. The back has tape and some paper loss, but I think it's a beautiful card:

Thanks Rob D. for another flawless transaction on the BST! This is my best Lajoie yet. My blue background and my red background Lajoies are SGC 10s.
I just need the green background now. Anyone have one to sell?;)

-- Mike - I appreciate the kind words.... I have been through many collecting themes over my lifetime, and this indigenous theme of collecting my hometown seems to have stuck the longest and gives me the most satisfaction.

Thanks ! JJ

A BIG net54 THANK YOU to Ed W.

Although I don't collect T212's, I've always thought Wiggs and his wisp of clouds was a vintage classic. Add a “Buck Baker Back” and this became one of those random must-have cards !!!!!

Attachment 33820

Deciphering the back:

James A. LR (indication he was a switch hitter ?)
Salt L – Cinn – SF 04 (Salt Lake – Cincinnati – San Francisco, 1904)
SL + NO 5 (Salt Lake and New Orleans, 1905)
BAK [BRK?] Det 6 (???????????* - Detroit, 1906)
Denver – Tol (Denver** - Toledo, 1907)
Altoona 8 (Altoona, 1908)
Oak 9 (Oakland, 1909)
Mont 10 (Montreal, 1910)
Oak 11 (Oakland, 1911)
Sea S/11 (Seattle, 1911)

B79 (who knows ?!?)

Long Jim in pencil

* Bak/Brk – Any ideas ???
** Can't find reference to him playing in Denver

Vintagecatcher 02-26-2011 05:10 PM

B79 equates to birthdate

I have always thought the Wiggs T212 was a classic card as well.

According to The Baseball Reference, Big Jim Wiggs was born on "September 1, 1876 in Trondhjem, Norway." My guess is that B79 was meant to be a notation for date of birth, although there seems to be a 3 year difference from the data on The Baseball Reference page.

Not the best condition, but, nevertheless, a cool color combination.

Got this one off eBay this month. I'm playing around with taking photos of cards rather than scanning, but I'm finding that I'm definitely no expert when it comes to finding the right lighting or settings.
