If this auction ends up being legit and the transaction completed there will be a lot of dancing in the Bowman offices.

cozmokramer 06-24-2010 07:20 PM

next year bowman will only produce one of every card and sell them all on ebay as 1 of 1s

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:21 PM

the two guys really going at it have over 1778 feedback... doesn't sound like a shill account no matter how ridiculous this is getting.

I think this is turning into a pissing contest between guys with too much money! Its not about the card any more, its about winning!

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:24 PM

Maybe it is the Nigerian Prince who is always trying to give me money, maybe he found something else to spend his "money" on :D

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:31 PM

One million dollars!!!! Holly sh*t! EVEN IF IT DOESN'T TURN OUT TO BE LEGIT, IT IS ENTERTAINING!

cozmokramer 06-24-2010 07:33 PM

Whats the ebay fee on this thing?

Peter_Spaeth 06-24-2010 07:36 PM

That does it, I am going to offer him $1.2 million off ebay before this thing gets too out of control.

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:38 PM

Lol, you should offer him $50 legitimate dollars!

Abravefan11 06-24-2010 07:39 PM

I hope the winner is signed up for Ebay Bucks.

teetwoohsix 06-24-2010 07:40 PM

Genius! You're awesome.

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:50 PM

after the 16K for the first Strasburg, the distributors starting gouging... they raised the prices from $100 a box to $1000, at least around here... My buddy owns a card store and he said that's what they did to him... it will only get worse now!

If the card's been pulled, wouldn't the price go DOWN?

Peter_Spaeth 06-24-2010 07:54 PM

Now the retractions will start, watch.

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:54 PM

I'm not overly familiar with the product, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a couple different colored 1 of 1's.... plus there are still plenty of other levels of Strasburg to be had within this series

4815162342 06-24-2010 07:56 PM

After the auction, as a joke, someone should post it in the June Pickup Thread.

Peter_Spaeth 06-24-2010 07:57 PM

I still don't understand why his 2008 cards on Team USA are not his rookie cards -- 1985 Topps McGwire was a Team USA card.

FUBAR 06-24-2010 07:59 PM

Ichieh will be asking how much more it is worth if it gets a BGS 9.5....

Ironically enough, the first 1 of 1 graded a 9.5 (or so the re-listing claims) which surprised me as the centering was off!

Peter_Spaeth 06-24-2010 07:59 PM

tbob 06-24-2010 08:24 PM

It's going to be interesting to see how many second offers are sent out on this card :D

Seriously, how many different of these freakin' cards are out there?

I'm waiting for a Gold Chromed, Uranium enriched, Sorcerer enchanted, Hobbit dipped in the fires of Mt. Vesuvius 1 of 1/2 version, before I put in any serious bids on this card.

FUBAR 06-24-2010 09:33 PM

that third one isn't a one of one, it is an error card the guy is calling a 1 of 1

he'll be lucky to get $500

Pup6913 06-24-2010 09:57 PM

Are you "F"'n kidding. Almost a cool Mil. This card is worth more than a Wagner. Any shilling going in this you think???

Wish I had pulled this one.:D

I still ain't bidding on it unless it's been touched by Hobbits. ;)

kmac32 06-25-2010 01:16 AM

someone been smoking some doobie if they would pay a million dollars for that card! LOL

Smokey Joe 06-25-2010 04:38 AM

Only way to sell this card on eBay is to have a buy it now which includes an immediate payment required.

Some funny post here in the last few hours.

barrysloate 06-25-2010 04:46 AM

It will be interesting to hear after the auction what this was all about. One possibility is the seller won't get paid. Another is whoever is bidding is going to buy a million dollars worth of PR.

What's certain is the winning bidder is not attempting to complete a 2010 Bowman set, and this is the last card he needs.:)

thekingofclout 06-25-2010 04:54 AM

Just a thought...

I'm fairly certain that WALMART sells Topps & Bowman, and history does tend to repeat itself...

FRODO will touch it, and maybe Sam, then you can bid:)

This is obviously a scam with fake bids, some perhaps from people who are caught up in the sheer idiocy of this situation, and are just fooling around.

Buythatcard 06-25-2010 05:27 AM

I would like to see what happens if Strasburg gets shelled in his next outing. If the auction is still going, are the bidders going to pull out?

I still think that something fishy is going on here. Who would bid almost 1 mil for a player what has only played 3 major league games?

GrayGhost 06-25-2010 05:34 AM

It is 100 pct fake, must be.

The Taxman cometh too for the "seller" of this fantastic piece of history

Now: a Sales pitch for anyone on here thinking of bidding:

the best 1/1 card extant. Do not miss your opportunity to be a part of history, and the career of this true Superstar in the making. What are the limits of this amazing card? BOUNDLESS, just like Steven Strasburg's career. Is it a lot of money? Yes, but you need to spend money to make money. You will be the envy of all of your card collecting friends. Gold, Platinum, Diamonds, why buy those ? Get in on the ground floor and be on top of the world with Strasomania. BID NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

hunterdutchess 06-25-2010 09:07 AM

The t206 Honus Wagner NM-MT 8 sold for 2.8Mill> Can this Strasburgh reach 2.9Mill? I hope it does and he than turns into Fernando Venezuela!!!!!

Do you think the guy's in the locker room are giving him crap about this?

WillBBC 06-25-2010 09:57 AM

There is no way this card will sell during this auction. The seller does not require bid registration so any idiot with an eBay account can hike the bidding up to a billion dollars if they wanted.

I can't wait to see what happens with this though and to see what it really sells for.

IMO, this auction has climbed beyond the realm of a publicity stunt. I have worked for a lot of small companies and start-ups that sometimes used these methods. It was usually due to not having enough money for any real PR. A top notch PR firm could really get your company known for this kind of coin. Heck, you could probably get Strasburg himself to endorse you for that money!

No, I think this auction is genuine crazy. I will probably be tracking this card for years to come.

D. Bergin 06-25-2010 02:11 PM

Jesus on toast only went for about 10 grand.

Jesus on cardboard.............well that's a whole 'nother story. :D

Wonder if this Strasburg fella can walk on water.

FUBAR 06-25-2010 02:16 PM

I don't think you can enter 7 digits before the decimal place, that's why bidding has stopped... it would be odd that several guys would bid 999,999.99 but in no way are they gonna bid one million, that's just too much!

If he can't walk on water, can he part the sea?

Exhibitman 06-25-2010 06:08 PM

I actually feel kind of sorry for the seller if the bids are not legit. The guy has 100% feedback and doesn't look to be a fraudulent account phishing for illicitly obtained money. He seems to have pulled a card at just the right moment and has a chance for some real bank from it but a bunch of yo-yos are messing with his auction. Just because a lot of collectors scoff at the hype and pricing of these sorts of cards doesn't mean that they have the right to wreck this guy's auction. Kinda basic manners, if you ask me, a Golden Rule sort of thing. I know I'd be pretty pissed off if I was selling something on Ebay and a bunch of dorks hijacked my auction and wrecked it for me.

Edited to add: I see he's now added this:

Ebay has finally allowed me to pre-approve bidders. If you would like to bid on this item and are able and willing to pay please email me before bidding to get approval. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BID ON THIS ITEM please contact me also as I will be deleting bids of people who do not contact me. Thanks for your time.

barrysloate 06-25-2010 06:56 PM

He's been deleting bids like crazy. At one point yesterday he had about 280. Right now he only has 168. It seems pointless to remove underbids, so I assume he is in fact disqualifying bidders.

On what basis can he determine which bidders are legitimate?

hunterdutchess 06-25-2010 07:02 PM

He is going to get a million for this card. I bet the winning bidder is from a giant corp. and is going to use it for a promotion.

FUBAR 06-25-2010 07:16 PM

well even though he eliminated bids, the price still hasn't declined.... maybe 1.5 mill?? id be crapping my pants if this was my card....

tbob 06-25-2010 09:10 PM

Funny how this card hovers just south of 1 mil. You'd think someone would kick in the extra $500 to push it above 1 mil.

FUBAR 06-25-2010 10:30 PM

that's why i don't think you can enter 7 digits before the decimal, ebay probably has never needed that 7th digit... originally there were 5 people that bid 999,999.99 but not a single penny more.....
