Bought a huge collection of pinback buttons in a small, obscure auction because I saw one New York Giants football button in the lot that I had never seen before. In addition to baseball pinbacks, I also collect New York Giants football ones.
They just arrived and there are buttons from as far back as the late 1800s. Some service awards, coat buttons and other miscellaneous trinkets are mixed in but here’s the Giants button. Apparently it was part of a set offered by Heinz Foods in 1967. |

As part of that lot that I bought, I also picked up a mid-80s Goose Gossage pinback and. Bobby Bonilla coin.

Nice looking collection with a good variety of different pins.
Are your pins pinned to the backing material or held in place by the glass front? |

The pins are pinned to slightly padded cloth backing and then are under glass. Thanks! |

I just picked up this 2 inch pin. I was hoping someone could confirm that it's referring to Leo Durocher. Also if it's a common pin and the approximate value. Thank you in advance!

What are your thoughts on this?

What do you guys think? Is this a baseball or football pin back? Maybe Chicago Cardinals football?

New arrival!

This little gem just arrived from out in the wild. Can anyone tell me a year on this or if it’s part of an actual set? Or is it just considered a style of PM10? It’s even got the nice vintage rust on the backside.
|
Jim not really considered a PM10 pin as it is only about 7/8s of an inch across.A nice little pin Appling had a long career with Chicago 1930 to 1950 Pin is probably late 30s early 40s. Is common but a nice pin for the collection....
|
Pinback was produced for ‘Luke Appling Day’ in 1947 - and was presented on a placard that thanked fans for donating to the Luke Appling Fund - FYI.

I would imagine then that this was only available that one day? Or does anyone know if it was sold outside the stadium after the day? I guess I can look back and see what the attendance was that day but to me I would think that it would be a fairly scarce item, no? |

Somewhat pinback related, I’m always on the hunt for display cases for my pins and such. I stumbled across this one today. It’s a plastic case with a glass front and I think it would be great to keep in my truck so that when I’m out in the wild and I find a nice pin, I can put it somewhere to protect it for the ride home. it’s got an interesting snap closure. I’ve never seen one like this before.

Got a bunch of new pinback buttons in today and this is probably my favorite one, a 1934 Quaker Oats Babe Ruth club pinback button.
I’ll probably never be able to afford a playing days Ruth Yankees card, but this is the next best thing. It’s cracked and pretty beat up, but it’s real and it’s mine. |

These two were free ones that the seller threw in with the Babe Ruth pinback: a 1932 Orbit Gum Jack Burns and 1934 Cracker Jack Wesley Ferrell. Man, these two are rough!

Another pinback in the Ruth lot that bought was this neat Tigers one.

This is a random one in that same lot that I bought. I doubt that it has anything to do with sports, but has anyone ever seen this one before?
|
Someone got a very nice deal on this pair, I would say:
