With only 33 days remaining until the fourth birthday of this silly thread I cannot help but hear both the chants of "Four More Years" and the groans of those who tire of this exercise and seeing the thread nearly perpetually on the first page. Once again the annual statistics will be posted on December 23rd that will reflect a significantly increase in the number of viewers, despite a drop in the number of cards added, new sets added and posts.

Cozumeleno has set a new standard for those building the set in a piecemeal manner with a gestation period of roughly nine months. I'm sure he is more thrilled with his new "baby" than Mrs. Cozumeleno, but that is only speculation.

This year we also added the first Doyle variation and first perfect score.

What will year five bring? More of the same and a few groans I trust.

Cozumeleno 11-20-2015 09:02 AM

Thanks, all - appreciate it.

Mrs. Cozumeleno, as Frank theorized, is indeed, not very thrilled. However, she has taken it a little easier since as instead of a gaggle of 3,200 count boxes of newer cards filling a spare bedroom, my collection now, for all intents and purposes, has been limited to two tidy binders. I still flip/break newer collections and cards, but they don't stay around long. The extra space in the house is a nice tradeoff. Yeah, no, she's still not happy.

Jon - I will be in touch, friend. Hoping to upgrade many more cards by the end of the year. I will check out your current need list if it is in the B/S/T T206 Trading Post where I believe I saw it before.

Anson,

CONGRATULATIONS ------------ GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad I could help out a bit. You're Demmitt and O'Hara are the way Demmitt's and O'Hara's should look like :)

I'm sure people will ask -- what's next. I feel upgrading is a never ending process, that is almost as fun as completing set -- have fun ;)

You're "data" has inspired me:

First card - Howard, Sav. (had Pied. OMSL and Hindu, before starting Monster)
Last card (of the 520) - Shag
Favorite card - to many to pick one
Favorite card, gun to head - Niles (gray sky)

Attachment 212454

Most annoying card to find - Ellam *
Best deal - trading with many net54 friends (especially Luke and Doug).
Favorite achievement - getting a grand number of cards through my many friends at net54
Most shameful achievement - * thinking I had an Ellam, but didn't.
Non-Common Piedmont/Sweet Cap/OMSL - 0%

argpdt 11-28-2015 04:30 PM

Added Beckley, so my monster number is now 16.

Topps206 11-29-2015 03:01 PM

Two - Bill Dahlen and Chief Bender.

Hi Frank,

PSA tells me I have 414 -- so it must be true.:)

Thanks for updating this thread after all these years.

Your tenacity is mind-blowing.

I pulled the trigger on a green portrait Cobb. It is on the way. So, I have reached my goal at 518. Now for the temptation of the Demmitt and O'Hara variations.

Hi Frank,

Please add me to the list with a MN of 358.

Thanks,

Reduce me to 24. Not out of it, just moving lower condition cards and slowly adding back better conditioned ones.

Hi Frank it's been almost two months since I last reported. I have added nine cards, so my updated "Monster Number" is 511. This group of eight hits arrived today via UPS.
I keep my set in a binder, so some of these guys spent some time on my workbench as I freed them from their plastic tomb:)

Cobb and Wiltse were cracked out of SGC A holders, Wiltse looks to be VG/EX so I assume it was cleaned or something?
Brown cracked out of SGC 10 holder.
Thornton cracked out of SGC 20 holder.
Otey cracked out of SGC 40 holder.
Durham cracked out of SGC 55 holder.
Overall and Foster purchased raw.

These are the seven cards I need to get to 518:
(Dahlen Brooklyn) (Howard Savannah) (Mathewson dark cap) (Mathewson portrait) Shaughnessy (Young Cleveland bare hand shows) (YoungCleveland portrait)

4th Birthday

This dinky little thread enters its fifth year today.

The fourth year resulted in a decrease in the number of posts (less than one/day for the first time), but we are still adding 20 cards per day and now have 53185.9 cards recorded.

We continue to add 43-45 new sets each year, since year 1.

Perhaps the most remarkable statistic though is the number of views.

In year 1 there were 27567 views, in year 2 there were 33952 views, in year 3 there were 48619 views and in the past twelve months there have been 74610 views.:eek::eek: That certainly looks like an exponential progression to me.

The appeal mystifies me at times, but I do realize that in some perverse way this thread becomes a motivator for those trying to complete the set and for others it seems to be a right of passage after joining the forum. I am sure there are other reasons as well. As I have said before it initially was not intended to be a perpetual motion device. It was also not intended to be a pain in the neck for those who scoff at mere White Borderites.

Someday it will end, but I'm not sure how or why.

Beatles Guy 12-23-2015 09:12 PM

Added seven from Scott to move me to 31.

Frank you hit the nail on the head here! I'm almost into counting the number more than I am about finding the perfect card because I can always upgrade later.

Please update me to 286. Closing in on 300! I believe I started the year with about 40 or so quite the progress. A HUGE thanks to Scott, Jeff, and Luke. Without them my progress certainly wouldn't have been this positive.

Cheers ,
Josh

Frank, You are a modern day CPA for Sisyphus. We, the T206 community, roll the T206 boulder up the hill slowly and methodically, only to watch it roll back down on occasion, and repeat this action over and over. You, as some form of modern day stoic-comedian, amusingly tell us where we presently are on the hill. Merry Christmas. Scot

Scot, Sisyphus was first referenced in Post #144. ;)
I trust you knew that. :D:D

Hi Frank,

Thanks to my Net54 Secret Santa, I am now up to 85. If you could please update my Monster Number accordingly, I would appreciate it.

Hope all is well. Have a very happy new year!

Best regards,

Eric

Happy Birthday to me! My Monster Number is now 515!

This has happened to me once or twice. You look and look for a card, nothing in your price range. Then not only does one show up, but two available cards. So I bought BOTH of the Howard (Savannah) cards:)

These three remain to get me to 518:
(Dahlen Brooklyn) Shaughnessy (Young Cleveland bare hand shows)

I just picked up a Purtell.

Monster number is now 18.

With 2015 coming to a close my monster number is 87. Figured I would make it to 100 but slowed down a bit. Changing my monster strategy a bit.

argpdt 01-02-2016 07:56 PM

Picked up a Vic Willis. Monster number is now 19.

Topps206 01-04-2016 09:52 AM

I must ask Frank if the yellow font in the first post is necessary. I don't wish to strain my eyes.

Wayne 01-04-2016 10:35 AM

Picked up 3 more since the last post
Hal Chase Trophy (hal completed)
Eddie collins
Red Kleinow- Red completed

pgellis 01-05-2016 07:19 AM

505

Finally hit 505 (All SGC50 or better).

It took 8 months to add 5. When you get to this level, it gets hard (and expensive). Remaining needs are all HOFers and just 2 SLers.

Topps206 01-05-2016 01:37 PM

Hal Chase blue portrait makes it six.

Frank - I haven't checked in for a while. My MN is at 515 with just the 3 Cy Youngs remaining to meet my goal. I hope that you've migrated southwest by now and are avoiding that Wisconsin wind chill. Go Packers!
