As far as I know, the six standard cards in the 1993 Nabisco set are all that were issued. I've never seen nor heard of a live appearance-only card from 1993. |
1963 Post Jerry Adair

Below is a 1963 Post Cereal card of Jerry Adair. He is one of the short-printed cards in the '63 Post set. I believe he is one of the players found only on the Bran Flakes box (not exactly a kid-friendly brand) but he's also pretty hard to find in the 1963 Jello set as well.

Exhibit postcards

I'm no expert on the Exhibit postcards, but do know there are several types featuring Orioles. The first type are blank backs from around 1957-1966. Orioles included were Steve Barber, Jackie Brandt, Jim Gentile, Milt Pappas, Boog Powell, Brooks Robinson and Gus Triandos. Attachment 399776 Attachment 399777 In 1962 and 1963, the cards were issued with the stats on the back. 1962 cards had stats up to 1961 and the 1963 cards had stats up to 1962. The 1962 Stat Back Exhibits included Jim Gentile and Milt Pappas. The stats on the back were printed in both black and red. So two variations of each. Attachment 399778 The 1963 Stat Back cards included Luis Aparicio, Steve Barber, Jim Gentile, Milt Pappas and Brooks Robinson. The stats on the back were printed in red. There are color variations of the fronts. The two 1963 Milt Pappas cards show the B&W and sepia colors. Attachment 399779 Attachment 399780 In 1980, Brooks Robinson was reissued in several color variations. This might be the red you are talking about. Attachment 399781 One other set that used exhibit cards, is the 1959 Dad's Cookies set from Canada. These cards are very rare. It's believed Dad's Cookies used exhibit postcards, with their ad printed on the back. The cards were stapled to bags of cookies, so staple holes are normal. Gus Triandos is the only Oriole. Attachment 399782 Attachment 399783 |
Great Exhibit cards...I've always liked those (never knew about those Dad's Cookies cards either!).
Some of you may remember Renata Galasso who was one of the early baseball card mail order dealers in the early part of the 1980's & who published a hobby magazine entitled Baseball-Hobby Card Report. One of the very first publications that Cal Ripken Jr. appeared on was the cover of one of these magazines from the Summer of 1984. Here is the magazine and the original cover artwork done by famed baseball artist Ron Lewis: https://i.imgur.com/qw5dRsk.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/HK7I4sW.jpg |
I love seeing all of those Exhibit cards. I never knew the Dad's Cookies cards existed either (although I think that's Gus Triandos).

I haven’t posted an Orioles nodder (bobblehead) yet so might as well start today. This is a 1961-1962 Orioles green color base. 1961-1962 Orioles Nodder Attachment 399970 While this isn’t really an Orioles only piece it has their logo on it, and I like it so here you go… 1960’s F.R. Mark,
I like the Manny's photos, too. They are still relatively inexpensive and easy to find. In addition to Brooks Robinson, there are nine other Orioles in the set... Ron Hansen, Jim Gentile, Chuck Estrada, Marv Breeding, Jerry Walker, Gus Triandos, Milt Pappas, Jack Fisher and Jackie Brandt. If you have ever been to Cooperstown, NY and visited the Hall of Fame, you know that baseball related stores and shops line the streets. F.R. Woods is one of the oldest stores in Cooperstown. F.R. Sunpapers Scorecards
14 Attachment(s)
In the 1950's and 60's, it was common for local papers to provide scorecards to it's readers. I assume, many people used them to keep score while listening to games on the radio.
The Baltimore Sun issued two styles over the years. The first style was more like a booklet that could be used to score many games. They weren't dated, but the covers varied over time. Attachment 400191 Attachment 400192 Attachment 400193 Attachment 400194 The second type were scorecards for individual games and included rosters on the back. They were printed from 1960-67. The covers didn't change much over the years. There were some color changes, but often the best way to determine the year are the rosters on the back. Since rosters changed during the summer, most years have a variety of backs. I posted a scan of two different 1965 backs. A friend of mine went through all of the Orioles roster moves each year and can actually give you the date range from each back. 1960 Attachment 400195 1961 Attachment 400196 1962 Attachment 400197 1963 Attachment 400198 1964 Attachment 400199 1965 Attachment 400200 Attachment 400208 Attachment 400210 1966 Attachment 400201 1967 Attachment 400202 |

I had him sign it at one of the Fan Fests I attended and he was blown away that any of these bats still existed only because they were given so few of them: https://i.imgur.com/wO0itV6.jpg |

After doing the post-game show, Ric graciously took a few minutes to BS and sign his 1977 game used alternate orange jersey I just happen to have in my book bag. Yes, that is a trash container he is using as a table.
Actually, after Dempsey completes the O's post game show, he normally heads for his restaurant on Eutaw Street. Figured I'd bring the jersey that night to see if I could get it signed. |
Great story and jersey Hal. Love those orange alternates and glad I have a few.

When it comes to Jersey's, I mostly gravitate towards the GU flannel, can't resist the laughing bird patch. Just picked up a '56 Jimmy Dycks home gamer from the Heritage Auction last weekend. Day 139 (May 18, 2020 – 139)
Happy Birthday Brooks! Quote: "How many interviews, how many questions - how many times you approached him and got only courtesy and decency in return. A true gentleman who never took himself seriously. I always had the idea he didn't know he was Brooks Robinson." - Joe Falls of the Detroit News On Brooks Robinson’s birthday I decided to picture a pretty cool poster. In the 70’s The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States put out some advertising posters of different predominant sports figures including Brooks. The B&W poster is around 17”x22” and states, “BROOKS! There’s nobody else exactly like him.” I know the poster has been posted before, but it’s one of my favorite setups on a poster and while it’s not uncommon, and it’s been shown before, it’s just COOL… The 70’s Equitable poster Attachment 400583 Thought I would show the stamp on the back of the poster of where it was displayed originally. The red stamping is small; unsure why it turned out so large when uploaded. Attachment 400584 Also, have an Equitable ad that was in TSN that states basically the same statement that is on the poster, “There’s nobody else exactly like Brooks Robinson.” I have also included the George Loh print that was used for the ad. People forget that even though the Orioles lost the series, the city of Baltimore still had a parade for the club the very next day. Everyone was in uniform, wearing the orange alternate tops. A few years ago, I purchased this 1979 Mark Belanger jersey from a lady, who as a young girl attended the parade with her parents and when it had all concluded, Belanger removed his uniform top and tossed it off the stage to her. I've always wondered if it was the same one he wore the night before. https://i.imgur.com/Ldh2Dra.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/8mkhvuk.jpg P.S. Happy Birthday Brooks!!! |
Bill it was difficult to watch knowing the outcome but wanted to check out the jerseys and helmets used. Great Belanger jersey by the way and story.
Happy Birthday Brooks! |
Quote:
That's an interesting question. It looks to me that the jersey has a 1978 tag. I wonder if players use jerseys from one year to the next if they had little wear. Alternate jerseys would in theory get less wear than regular home/away shirts. Since Belanger was with the Orioles both years, maybe he did reuse some jerseys. The other explanation is that the Orioles gave out jerseys from the previous year at the parade. Either way nice jersey. |
1970 World Series tankards

I can't remember if either of these have been posted yet or not, but a couple of nice tankards from 1970. The first one is from American Airlines and celebrates Brook's MVP performance in the World Series.

Nice mugs! I know it was difficult to see, but the Belanger tag is indeed from 1979. The other hope I had was that it was the jersey he wore when he went out to shallow left field & "tiptoed" to catch the last out of Game 1 of the Series: https://i.imgur.com/MxMzoYx.jpg Here is a press photo of Weaver from that parade: https://i.imgur.com/gYy9vT4.jpg |

Clint stated that, "This doll was given to me by fellow Net54 collector Dan Bretta. Dan’s mom hand makes different players from history for him such as Jackie Robinson. That Brooks doll may show up on the Antiques Roadshow 100 years from now. Neat little piece of folk art !

One thing I do remember about Game 7 of the '79 World Series was that the late Pat Kelly made the final out.

1977 Orioles postcards
10 Attachment(s)
There have been some nice alternate orange jerseys being posted lately. In 1977, the Orioles used the alternate jersey for many of their team issued postcards. It marked the last postcards printed of Brooks as a player. The Orioles have done several postcards of Brooks after his retirement for various signing opportunities. This also marked the first postcards of a young Eddie Murray.
I believe both Brooks and Eddie were probably double printed on the sheets, as both have multiple variations that included either a cropping or name placement change. The backs are blank, except for two postcards. The Orioles reused 1976 postcards of Al Bumbry (I don't have) and Jim Palmer (2nd one) and printed a message to planholders encouraging them to come watch the 1977 Orioles. There could be other players that were reused with the spring training message. I would love to know if there are others out there.
