Nice Seymour Ed !! Much better than my marked one with purple on his uniform lol.

bigtrain 05-14-2015 11:20 AM

Added a few and now at 509 with some Cobbs, Youngs and Mattys left to go.

What an appropriate card to reach 500 with. So now my collection is at 500 and they are all SGC50 or better.

Congrats Phil, that is quite the accomplishment

Thanks Chris. Thanks for the great deal on the Cobb.

It's been a 10+ year challenge. I have wanted to branch out and start another set (T3, Cracker Jack, etc.) but have not allowed myself to stray. Added 1 more, so now down to 19 to go.....

OK, I finally got around to counting my T206s tonight. My Monster Number is 178, in that I have 178 unique fronts from the set (and none of the Big Four, needless to say).

For 12 of the 178, I have another card with the same front but a different back, and for two fronts (Camnitz arm down and Camnitz arms up) I have versions with three diffferent backs. So I actually have 194 T206 cards in all, but 178 unique fronts, which is the basis for my Monster Number.

I gather we get no credit for the backs, but as I've posted before, I have a number of tough backs, including two Lenoxes, a Broad Leaf 350, three Carolina Brights, two Hindus, four Cycle 460s, and all the less common ones.

You have actually read the rules and interpreted them correctly, you are thus rewarded with three Monster Numbers.:D

Oh, right. So my first Monster Number is 178, my second one is 14, and my third one is 2. Some of these people with good T206 back runs must have a bunch of Monster Numbers!

jrlebert 05-22-2015 07:04 PM

Please downgrade my first set to 150. Also, I have now started a Polar Bear only set. Please mark me down for Set #2 (PB), at a whopping 8.

Enfuego 05-23-2015 07:19 PM

Add 1 more to my Monster number, I just picked up an Ed Cicotte w/ the Sweet Caporal back

Jayhawkaholic 05-25-2015 10:16 AM

This seems like a good place to introduce myself, my name is Greg and I started my lifelong dream of collecting the T206 set last year. My monster number is 119 right now and 15 duplicates with different backs. I started off collecting them raw but some trimmed ones I've gotten off of eBay has led me to buying more and more graded, 19 of them are slabbed now. I've been reading a lot of posts here and have been blown away by how helpful and knowledgeable this community is. Thanks.

Welcome aboard Jayhawk! You may wanna post an intro as its own thread here on the main board, more people will see ya that way.
I like the raw cards too but I am always afraid they are tampered with too so I only pick up the cheaper rougher raw cards.

Louieman 05-25-2015 01:40 PM

Trimming my collection to only the cards I absolutely can't be without, so my monster number is 4

cincyredlegs 05-25-2015 04:13 PM

Can you knock me up to 106?

Thanks,

Hi Frank - 297 whenever you get a chance!

bigtrain 05-29-2015 11:59 AM

I started off a couple of years ago with a raw lot of about a hundred. Have been able to get to 509 without selling off any part of my collection that I really like. I realize now that I cannot get any further without selling off some stuff that I will miss...but heck if its not a T206, it is expendable. So my PSA 6 Aaron rookie is being sold this weekend to finance purchase of two nice Mattys and a Cy. I am at 512. More selling off to come as I saved the all the Cobbs
and 2 Cys for last. Hope that by the fall I will be thinking about whether I need the Demmitt and O'Hara variations or even...dare I dream of a Magie?

100!

Hi Frank,

I thought that since I reached the 100 plateau it was about time to join this thread. It took me 10 months to get here. If I keep the same pace for the next 420 cards, it will take me approximately three and half more years. I'm going to enjoy the ride :D

I posted some of my favorite cards

I also have a second set of 7

Thank you,

Jeff

Made it--

Finally completed my quest [518]
with the acquisition of the Elberfeld, Washington, portrait; thanks Larry.

I was in no rush to get it--been at 517 for more than a year--because one of my principles is to get a card at a decent price. But even more, I've enjoyed the pursuit--getting there--so much that I didn't want it to be over!

Fortunately for me, it's not over, as I'm in the continual process of upgrading and diversifying my collection, which I also enjoy very much, especially as it keeps me in the T206 market, to which I am addicted daily.

Happy collecting,

Doug

It's been almost two months since I've sent an update, and I've added twenty cards. My new total is 427, like the engine that powers this 1970 Camaro Super Stock "Mr Bardahl"

Congrats on the Cobb. May I ask how much it set you back? I ask, because I got a Cobb, bat off shoulder, a few months ago for around $400. Since then, it seems tough to find any Cobb's under $600.
