Bruce? Some of the best stuff I've seen in some time. Thanks for posting.
I too, have a Murnane related piece. |
Thank you
Derek, I tried, thank you for pushing me. Gary, I think Murnane tried to accumulate older photos, possibly for inclusion in a planned book or guide, that never materialized. I have what I believe to be a tintype of Murnane which I will post to see if it can be confirmed somehow. I am glad you started this thread, I will try to post more later.

Another favorite. 1891 Beaneaters & by far the largest photo I own, somewhere around 20 inches wide.

Not a 19th century guy normally, but fell in love with the pose and image quality as soon as I saw it. Best guess is it is Fred Rehse, but still can't figure out how a guy who played in 2 games has such a great looking cabinet and multiple N172s but, as best I've been able to determine, nothing else.

Massachusett's game stereoview?
1 Attachment(s)
Boston Common stereoview described as showing the only Massachusetts game action. Photo is by John D Heywood and published by Frank Rowell, who was Heywood's publisher from 1863 to 1865. Believe yellow mount is indication of stereoview from that time period also.

Hey guys,
I must say that this gem slightly goes beyond 19th Century; however, the majority of the subjects portrayed here are 19th Century dudes. Besides, the significance of this piece is that it represents the year that there was no Major League World Series. 1904 Eastern (International) League Champions http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...904buffalo.jpg TED Z . |

I like this thread so much I am stretching it a bit to show this painting. Although not from the 19th century, it depicts A G Spalding from the famous Warren cabinet pose. Not sure who painted or when, but it will have to serve as my Warren cabinet for now. I got it in a Hunt auction, which described it as possibly King Kelly.

One more painting, also not from 19th century, but entitled "an old timer at the bat", by Griswold Tyng, a student of Howard Pyle. It was likely painted about 1910 to 1920. I like to think the catcher's mask, which is featured is somehow connected to James Tyng. If anyone knows anything about where this appeared, or a connection between the artist and James Tyng, I would love to hear about it. I have seen his work as calendars and magazine illustration.

I know it is an old trivia question, but a good one to know: Who is the only Hof'er to appear on both the N172 and T206 sets?

Some insane eye candy in this thread. I'll play.
Bought this 1890 cabinet from Terry Knouse at a bygone National. Sold it in the first LOTG auction. Miss it dearly. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...arge/ODay1.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...arge/ODay2.jpg My KBats collection, all two of 'em. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...Geo%20Wood.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...ge/DMcD561.jpg Recent acquisition. Couldn't pass it up. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...%20Breslin.jpg Have showed this before. John Ewing, younger brother of Buck, won 21 games for the Pelicans in 1887. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...hn%20Ewing.jpg No info on this photo as to when or where. Might not be 19th century but close as dammit is to swearing and too cool to not show. Maybe Mr Kreindler or some other genius can opine as to which stadium this is. Those columns look familiar. Pittsburgh? http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...ans%201911.jpg |
may NO be 19th century.

I could be wrong, but...just a guess:

The reason I guessed Pittsburg was due to a painting that Graig did of Honus Wagner which turns out to have been at Chicago's West Side Grounds. A further look on the internet revealed that the Cubs played there from 1893 to 1915 Link. Probably what would be more telling are the clothes styles depicted. Were these grown-up Terrors of America wearing high collars and bowler hats in the 1890s? Possibly.

nice catch, David...and I LOVE the 'Terrors" set, even the non-sports versions...
p.s. - awesome Kreindler! DS |
Don't have a lot of 19th century items in my collection but here are a couple that I can share.
