I'm an Athletics fan and have wanted this for a long time, really happy to get one in pretty good shape.

Cool postcard, jim...gotta be happy with that one!

Thanks, I've lost on a few in the past but this was the best looking one I've seen yet so was really hoping to get it. Won it for the max I was willing to go and it was even better looking than I thought it would be so I'm pretty thrilled.

Beautiful Harry Davis PC - it's on my wantlist.

Nice grab on the Davis pc Brian, been looking for a Powers Day pc for a long time too.
Great stuff as usual Jim! |

It's great to know that there will be spirited bidding should one come up!

1930 W554 Lou Gehrig. A great display piece.
I'm sure there are some coin/currency collector's out there. I know it's not a baseball card, but had to show off the graded $1,000 bill I just got. Just like cards I love the artwork of currency and that was a lot of money back in the 30's! |

First cards from the 19th century. They look pretty cool. Were acquired from the BST.

The Kelly postcard also includes Casey Stengel as the Boston Braves manager. The Braves and Browns traveled to Monterrey Mexico in 1941, I think this may be a view from that trip, this RPPC is printed on Mexican RPPC paper. |
Would you mind sharing the back of your Kelly PC from Mexico? I have a few Mexican rPPCs and am curious what your back looks like.
Thanks, Derek |

Antique show and shop finds

Hi-
I picked up the OJ scanned below at a small flea market in Maryland at the beginning of the month. I picked up the N284s at a small antique shop in Massachusetts yesterday. Normally I do not find cards (usually just memorabilia), especially 19th century ones at reasonable prices. Alan |

Ratty and overpriced but I was desperate.....
http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...RBERSTYPES.JPG
....has a wicked tear and the corners are gone and it's got fountain-pen writing and has been roughly-treated and poorly-kept but how often does a 1936 Goudey Wide Pen R314 Type 2 Chapman-Werber come along for only $45.....hell , I wasn't even positive that it existed at all ,figuring the checklists were wrong because none had appeared during many years of searching......even the seller had it listed as a National Chicle Fine Pen ( R313 ).... so now the dreaded ''hunt for the upgrade'' begins..........love this hobby !! |

I took the month off from "The Monster" to concentrate on my pre-war pirates collection:
|
The last five pages of this thread are just amazing. My collection is what it is (SF Giants) but this site is giving me a new found appreciation for the really old stuff. Before, I'd get an auction catalog and think "meh" to 80% of the contents. Great stuff, guys. :D

1910 Toledo Baseball Team Postcard that includes Joe McCarthy
(back row, sixth from left) and a 1947 Almendares Baseball Club Team Premium that includes Adolfo Luque & Buck O'Neill. |
Beautiful post cards, Jeff. Two more outstanding additions to what continues to be one of my very favorite collections on Net 54. I especially like the Almendares base ball club.
There have been a lot of great players that have come and gone, but if I were to come up with a list of players I wish I could have met, Buck O'Neil would be at the very top (hmm, sounds like an interesting topic). He was truly one of the great ambassadors of the game. The man was a witness to some incredible history, and his enthusiasm for the game was second to none. I could have sat there listening to him speak for hours on end, and I'd have been enthralled the entire time. |
just got back from the exchange...

Derek, thanks again for reaching out to me and trading me these two "NM beauties" (hey, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," right?) for my Sam Rice collection from your fantastic RC collection. It's great when a trade greatly enhances both collectors' collections!
Condition-wise, this Boston Store closely resembles the only other Sam Rice RC "NM beauty" I already had, which is a Collins-McCarthy example. Now, the only ad back 1917 Rice I am missing is the D350-2 Standard Biscuit - anyone have one they are willing to sell or trade? I also wouldn't mind acquiring a 1917 E135 blank back of Rice, although I am partial to cards with ad backs. Val |

I love CJ 14s but find most of the poses rather lame, and redundant. But this is one of my favorite--great pose and uniform and attitude. Looks like a HOFer.
