Now that it truly impressive!
|
Cobb run
Pretty much agree with all the sentiments regarding the Cobb run. Just amazing! Good luck on the last one!
|
Amazing, Jamie! I never get tired of looking at pictures of these cards.
|
Congratulations, Jamie!
|
Wow, amazing. Funny, you and I are emailing the other day, and you mentioned a big pick up...didn't realize you meant a BIIIIG pick up. Congrats!
|
Wow !!!
|
Whole. Lee. Sheet!
Congrats man, that is awesome!!! Next time I see one I'll just grab a T214 Cobb for ya :D |
I will pile on with a congrats too, Jamie. That is a great looking new addition.
|
Wow. Congrats! What's that the Cobb back from Memory Lane Auction sold recently?
|
Jamie, I just couldn't resist checking the pop reports - I see that there are three T214 Victory - Cobbs in the combined reports (hopefully, none are crossovers), which gives me confidence that you will obtain one. And, hopefully, you already know where one or more of them reside.
|
I'm just in awe of what I am looking at. Absolutely fantastic. This would be HOF worthy if it were just a common player, but Cobb? Just... wow.
|
It is not complete without a Cobb proof. LOL
|
Wow Jamie! The king of all runs...atleast tobacco runs...has reached a new stratosphere!!!!
|
|
some amazing runs in this thread, especially those Cobbs! There's something amazing about a big group of beautiful T206 portraits like that
|
Congrats Jamie! Unreal pickup!
For anyone who hasn't read it, I interviewed Jamie for an article about his Cobb run back in February. It was a lot of fun to learn more about how he put the collection together. http://www.thatt206life.com/2017/02/02/the-greatest-t206-back-run-ever-assembled-ty-cobb-red-background-portrait/ |
Incredible run. Threads like this should be on an automatic bump timer so it remains on the first page for a year or so for any and all newcomers to enjoy.
|
Incredible. A big thumbs up.
How many pairs of brown shoes does your spouse have? :D |
That's just incredible Jamie. I'm really happy for you. It's also making me realize I need to step my game up. I'm sure a Victory will show up at some point. It's just a waiting game now.
|
Forgive me if this has already been covered, but what makes the T214 so tough (besides the insane prices it demands)? Are those cards ridiculously more scarce than the other Cobbs you have? Or is it all about finding one at the right price?
|
Luke, very well done article.
Jamie, again, just an incredible run. |
Very very amazing.
|
What took you
so long my friend???????:D
 |
Hello Everyone...
It has been 3 years since I have been able to update this thread... I have a very exciting and somewhat historic announcement... After years and years of searching... and thanks to another Board member I have finally secured the T214 Victory Red Cobb! This was the last Cobb needed to complete the entire Tobacco run of Red Cobbs! All 30 of 30 possible now reside in the same collection.. To date I believe this is the first time these Cobbs have ever been assembled in the same collection. I also believe at 30 different backs, this is the largest backrun ever put together. It has been a 9 Year Journey starting back in 2011 with the Cobb Drum... Plugging away over the next few years I was able to acquire more Cobbs.. ones that I thought I never would find... the Red Hindu, the Broad Leaf 460, the T213 Type 3 Overprint... the final 2 ended up being the Cobb Back, and the Victory.. I was drawn to the allure of the Lucky 7 find, and was thrilled when another collector helped me secure one of the Lucky 7 (in my humble opinion the nicest 2.5 of the bunch).. that was roughly 3 years ago.... from then until now... high and low I searched for a T214 Victory... I believe there are only 2 confirmed examples.. (I was told the PSA 2 listed on the pop report was crossed to one of the SGC 2s)... Very excited to add this to my collection.. it was my white whale... and now what seemed impossible 9 years ago.. has finally been realized today... Some fun stats about the different backs... the T213 type 3 overprint is the only 1 of 1 left (after the discovery of the 2nd BL460).... there are only 2 BL460s, 4 Drums, 2 Victorys.. 2 blank backs.. the Sov 460 is incredibly difficult... as is the Red Hindu, and type 1 coupon... The T213-2 Cobb in this run is the 2nd highest graded example... Luke did a really nice article about the run (posted earlier in this thread) if anyone has interest in more details about the assembling of the cards... This has taken countless hours of online searches.. hunting at National card shows every year..... networking with other board members... I can say with 100% certainty without this forum I would have never been able to complete this back run.. Thank you to everyone who assisted me.. and a special thanks to my close friends Chris, JV, Mike S, Ryan, Luke, Bryan L, Sonny and Sean C. You are looking at 9 years of a mans collecting life below... :) I included a small picture so you can hopefully see all cards without scrolling.. and a larger image for better clarity on each cards condition... All grades are listed above the cards in Red... My hope one day is to have this displayed in the Hall of Fame for others to enjoy.... (if I would be lucky enough to have them consider displaying it) I present the first ever complete Ty Cobb Red Portrait Tobacco Back Run... https://i.imgur.com/Yjw6xat.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qLusPP5.jpg |
It doesnt get any better than that right there.
Legendary run Jamie! I have enjoyed watching you acquire these over the years, from the Drum, to somehow scoring the Hindu to finally getting the T214. Good for you!:eek: |
Fucking amazing Jamie. Congrats. Hands down the King of all back runs!! I am very happy for you.
Now you need to do a second Red Cobb Run (like Seymour) |
[emoji2962][emoji2962] amazing, congrats

|
Absolutely
heart stopping!!!
that's a mansion right there:eek::eek: |
Meh. I've finished and broken up this run three times. Mine were at least in good shape.
|
This is flat out incredible. Read through this entire thread today. I'm overjoyed you were able to accomplish your collecting goal! I'm afraid to ask what's next!
Personally I would love to see this in the Hall of Fame, I think it should deserve a nice display in the Shoebox Treasures section of the Hall! |
Wow- congratulations- this is amazing!
|
Amazing, Jamie! Congrats! I’ve gone back to read Luke’s article a number of times just to hear the story again. Love to see that it’s now complete.
I’ve gained more appreciation for this over the years as I’ve struggled to complete even a single player run of 6-10 cards. |

Jamie, congrats!! 9 years is definitely some stamina and hard work... Great stuff! |
Amazing! Congrats on the incredible collection. What are you going to do now?
|
Simply unreal! I love seeing these all in one image like that. Total Congrats!:eek::eek:
|
amazing jamie and congrats! the king run! i hope to complete my miller run someday to take the non t206 title!!!!!
|
Are we 100% sure that a T215 Cobb Red won't turn up someday?
|
Congrats Jamie. This thread has been very inspirational. Thanks for sharing your journey and that patience pays off.
|
Congrats!
Congratulations and fantastic job! That is an amazing group of Cobbs, and quite an amazing accomplishment. Thank you for sharing!
|
Nice back run! Congrats...
Time to start a Johnson Pitching run :) |
|
Congratulations on a huge accomplishment Jamie. Unreal......
Side note: David, that's a great pic.... |

Hard to believe it's been 9 years...
since you started this project.
can't tell you how much joy & excitement i have shared with you vicariously from our first conversation and thruout to this apparent conclusion. you have accomplished so very much in a relatively short period of time. congratulations once again on a spectacular acquisition and the completion of this journey. that gallery is most impressive! well done, sir. :) |
Amazing accomplishment. What I love most is the dedication and the true spirit of collecting it took to put together this run. It's not like you just wrote a couple checks and put this together in a couple of weeks. In addition to money, it took dedication and a love of what you were doing. Those are two things missing from this hobby, in my opinion. Well done!
|
Wow - amazing - congratulations!

I keep looking at the pics and am blown away that you completed the entire run.
This is the best of the best - there is no better back run, period (considering the player and the total number of combos). |
This is absolutely amazing.
|
Wow!
Absolutely fantastic.....congrats Jamie!!!!
|
Wow, just amazing.....congratulations....great to read this thread!
|
Beautiful Display!!
Absolutely beautiful display!!!! Congrats Jamie!!!
If you ever consider producing posters/ prints of this backrun labeled, count me in on purchasing one! It would make an awesome display! |
That's awesome, congrats. If I see a t215 Red Cobb type 1 or 2, I will let you know.
|
Another non-T206 guy who took great interest in the collection, quite the accomplishment!
Out of curiosity, I note your collage starts with T206 at left in an order that seems to follow value and then finishes with the non-T206s. Was there a reason for the order? I note the Ty Cobb back is mixed in with the T206s. Curious on your view on the backs and why you arranged them the way you did. As others have hinted at, what do you believe are the chances that a 31st and 32nd variant surface? Not many years ago it was believed 25 would be complete. Lastly, picking up on your future interests, how should the Tigers or Detroit Historical Museum or BB HOF display such a collection? 5 rows of 6 or 3 rows of 10? A deep and secure shadow box that slowly spins the cards in unison at the hit of a button? Would it be interactive with a touch screen that allows some high level details to be shared for each back type? Congrats! |
Jamie: Now it's on to the "Cobb Green Portrait ", I think there are only 8 of them. The total backs with all 4 Cobb's in the T206 set I think is around 57 (25,8,8 16). Is this right ?
|
holy moly!!!! :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Hey Everyone
Just seeing all the replies. Thank you everyone for the kind words. I am thrilled to see the run is being enjoyed by others. Answering a few comments made by others. The run already includes the Cobb back.... it’s shown on the right hand side of the photo. There are no red cobb cards in the T215 set. That set only has the Cobb bat off pose. I set up the T206s on the left hand side of the picture because the T206 set was the earlier set. The t213 type 1, 2 and 3 came out in 1910-1919.... and T214 was 1915. My ideal way to show the cards would be one long row where you have to walk several steps to enjoy the entire set. With a slow rotating stand so the fronts and backs can be enjoyed. Or a clear box like display so you can walk on both sides and view fronts and backs. Thanks again for the comments. It has been a fun journey. And very surreal that I was able to complete it. |
one of the best eye candy treads I've seen of this incredible site congrats
|
Amazing & spectacular accomplishment, Jamie - CONGRATS!
|
Incredible. I don’t really have anything noteworthy to add other than a heartfelt congrats! I just wanted to be a part of this thread. 😂😂🏆
|
Jamie, really fantastic! Besides it being an unbelievable accomplishment, it’s just so visually pleasing to look at!
Congrats, buddy! |
Is the Cobb red background not known to have a Red Cross back, or not possible with a Red Cross back? I thought that the T215 checklists are incomplete, i.e. less than 100 to the set known, as stated on the back, like T214 Victory checklists are less than the 90 stated on the back.

Hey Everyone,
I enjoy sharing the Cobb Run with the Board and wanted to take a minute to thank a few Board members for helping me with some upgrades over the last several months.. I have been able to upgrade 4 Cobbs since the last post:
3 of these 4 came from other Net54 board members. This website is a great place for collectors to meet and help each other accomplish their goals...I am forever grateful to the board for that.. Thank you to those 3 members who recently helped me.. you know who you are.. Maybe one day ESPN can do a 30 for 30 on this 30 :) updated image of the Cobb run below: https://i.imgur.com/2PhRO8Rh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Fv765Gk.jpg |
Thanks for showing that!!! Amazing
|
Simply incredible
|
Ridiculous Jamie...I'm just stunned at your accomplishment. This is the kind of stuff I just love hearing...collectors attaining their goal and then improving on it!
Congratulations! Bill |
Never gets old looking at those. Thanks for the update! I am up to two of those. Lol.
Thanks Chad |
Stunning! Well done!

just unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
the ultimate run! nice jamie!
|
I never get tired of seeing this run. Won't ever be topped.
|
How does this Cobb run compare to Brady Hill's run? I think Hill's run has all the T206s but not sure whether he has others.
