Diggin' all the pickups this month so far, fellas!
Nice to add this one back to the collection. Love everything about this card... the two-handed grip, the intense stare, the woodgrain of the bat, the pulled up collar -- all set against a beautiful sunset background. Oh... and it's Ty Cobb. Card sits in a PSA 3.5 holder due to a minor crease: http://photos.imageevent.com/ltsgall...bat%20off4.jpg |

Couldn't bid on most of the T210s on ebay last night because I was eating with the folks at Olive Garden :( but managed to snag two to add to the set while waiting for the check.

Picked up this a few others tough Red Borders last night.
|
Nice Malcolm, Jason. That was one I had my eye on. My eating lasagna with the folks probably saved you a lot of money. :D You're right about the strong bids, upwards of $700 for raw T210s was a stunner. I was a little worried about the top borders on many of the cards, felt they looked like they might be trimmed but where else are you going to find tough Series 7 cards for sale?

I just received this one in the mail yesterday, 1942 RPPC picturing two Negro League HOF'ers, Ray Dandridge & Monte Irvin............
|
Congrats Phil! I remember seeing that at one of the AHs earlier this year. I didn't realize it was a PC...thought it was "just" a photo.
Very nice score!! And congrats on the Sol White book (if I didn't mention it already)! |
Thanks, Derek! Need to start saving up again now after last night's Legendary Auction as well......

Yes the 7 bills for the Cross was a shock.I was in on it early but it didn't take long for me to be outbid.I agree,I saw a lot of borders that looked wavy.I picked up a Morgan Im sure is trimmed, but like you said, where else are you going to find them.Overall I'm very happy and the seller was a great guy. Here is another I finally crossed off,I have missed or passed on a few this year and didn't want lose this one.
|
Beautiful card, Jason...love the pose and the borders! I bet a bunch of them would look great stacked up together.

My Love of the Game pick up. Wasn't sure if I really needed it, but I have always wanted an Old Judge hall of famer so I guess $10,000 Kelly fits the bill!

N172 King Kelly
I was the under bidder on that one, Luke. Great looking card. Congratulations!

Just got this in today. BIG thanks to Larry Harris for cutting me a deal on Big Ed. Absolutely incredible looking card, just a bit of residue on the back gave me the opportunity to own this card at a price I could afford. Horribly under graded IMO, who cares about the back? Sorry back collectors, I like the pictures on the front, not the advertising on the back (I may never turn it over ever again!)
|
That's sharpe and I agree who area bout the advertisement on the back great lookin card.
Just had these come in today and very excited to check off two more off the list. The set is moving slowly but still moving Two 34 goudey's Grove PSA 4 Cramer PSA 6 http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...FL/image-2.jpg |
Derek,
Your Collins-McCarthy pickup is a "to die" for card to this Sam Rice card collector! My raw example of this card would grade "poor," at best (it looks rather like your Boston Store card of Rice). Congratulations!! Val |
Picked up these two T206 Cubbies that I still needed for my T206 Cubs master set from SSA. I love that the Rube Kroh with the SC 350 30 back also has a Toy Town stamp.

Nice pickups, Nate...but what the heck is the significance of a toy town stamp?
|
Here is a thread that talks about it a little. I don't think it's anything too significant, but it is well known enough for SGC to put it on the slip. I don't believe the stamps are at all factory related. From what I remember, the stamp is usually found on E cards.

Here's a real nice $-In-Shield postcard of White Sox player Jakey Atz. The White Sox players are much tougher to find than the Cubs so I'm real happy to land this one. And it is also the first time I've purchased a postcard from Luxembourg!
|
Nice Jeff! I was watching that one closely...tough type-PC! He'll fit right in w/ the rest if the guys in your collection!

ID efforts welcome -- 1910 Red Sox in Vermont
1 Attachment(s)
ID's are tough on this one, but feel free to weigh in.
The Boston Red Sox played an October 10, 1910 intersquad game at Centennial Field in Vermont. They divided into two teams led by Vermonters Larry Gardner (shown here receiving a silver cup) and Ray Collins. Hall of Famers Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper also played that day. Joe Wood pitched. The Gardners won 4-1. The teams: Gardners: Larry Gardner, Clyde Engle, Hugh Bradley, Heine Wagner, Charley Hall, Red Kleinow, Joe Wood, Marty McHale, Chris Mahoney. Collins's: Harry Hooper, Doc Moskiman, Tris Speaker, Duffy Lewis, Bill Carrigan, Billy Purtell, Dutch Lerchen, Bunny Madden, Ray Collins. One more Red Sox
2 Attachment(s)
Thanks, Jason. Here's one more Red Sox (this one's a photo, sized a little wider than and not quite as tall as a postcard). Could be April 25 or May 27 or Sept 4, all days Ruth took a win or loss as a pitcher.
