Actually a Type 2 coupon - looks nicer than the grade but has a vertical crease which isn't too noticeable...

Am slowly rebuilding by George Gibson collection. Won these in the recent Small Traditions auction, and was quite happy with the prices. The T205 is a Factory 42 Piedmont. Cards arrived last week, but waited for today to post them to mark Gibson's birthday. Happy 133rd, George!<table>

You know, I assumed photographic technology prevented them from doing any "action" photos. The players had to hold poses sometimes for several minutes. Am I correct?

tinkertoeverstochance 07-24-2013 08:08 PM

I have several really dark-imaged OJ's where you can see the wire that suspends the baseball. I assume they were consistent with their photographic techniques.....

This is not the same Bergen that was offered on eBay a couple of weeks ago that I received several messages about. That one went for way more that it was worth, and more than I was wiling to part with. At least two others thought a lot more of that card than I did. But am very glad to add this one, which brings the total to 235.

For those still in the dark, the Ruth PC was sold by Probstein...I'm taking a wild guess here and assuming your Mulvey was sold by Probstein as well, given the scan you provided!

I had some success in the last couple of weeks. The Mullin postcard is from a six postcard set of Mullin produced by Billie Jones, this is the first postcard from this set I've managed to find. The Polo Grounds is a very rare Wilkerson composite postcard. The Sullivan card with advertising from the Morrison Hotel is a dupe if anyone has an interesting postcard to trade.

Instantaneous or near instantaneous photography was widely practiced by the time Old Judge cards were produced but it was far easier to photograph a pseudo-action scene when the ball was suspended as desired.

Sean 07-25-2013 07:18 PM

Jim, that postcard read "compliments of Morrison Hotel and Boston Oyster House."

Aren't they the same ones who produced the Grignon post cards a year earlier?

Thank you....I thought I saw a line above the ball but i wasn't sure....

I think it's amazing how clear some of the images are considering they had to stay VERY still or risk blurring the exposure....

Amazing pieces of US history, 125 years old and counting!

I don't collect postcards, but I love these Grignons. I made a run at the complete set in the last REA, but I gave up because I spent so much on something else. But I'd love to get some someday.

Nice pickups Bill. I'm a big T202 fan myself, especially since there are always a lot of really nice lower grade examples out there (1-2's can often present like EX- EXMT), that can be had at relatively low cost.

the 'stache 07-28-2013 03:20 PM

Thank you, Ian. They definitely caught my eye the first time I saw them in the latest Robert Edwards auction catalog. I love the variety that the cards offer. An action shot and two portraits to bookend it makes for a very interesting composition. After I read the player bios on the back, I go to Baseball Reference and Wikipedia to learn more.

I am really enjoying myself. There's this whole untapped world of vintage and pre-war cards for me to explore, and it's completely reinvigorated my passion for the hobby.
