Great OJ's. That seller had some nice cards. I tried to win the Mays, but my bid was nowhere close.
Here are a few recent cards I did get... .............. Attachment 87548Attachment 87549 Attachment 87550 Attachment 87551Attachment 87552 |

Just picked up this beauty off of Ebay. Great card for the grade and a miscut back to boot..

Nice score Rhett!

Super Happy with the LOTG pickups, also really impressed with them going the extra mile in wrapping and securing the cards for shipping. They can in a box with peanuts, wrapped in the middle with large bubble wrap, inside that each card had it own small bubble wrap pouch, the card was inside a team back with a nice printed label with the details of the auction and card! Wow really enjoy all the nice extras!

Steven -- 176/180... nice! Alllllllmosssssstttt there! HOF -- just awesome. Not sure how you're going to top that one this year. Love how it's got the middle name Charles, too (I'm partial to that name, btw). |

Nice card. I know that yours is super-rare, but have you ever seen a '50s Mantle card signed with his signature from that period?
You just made me think about my 'dream card' - a T206 green portrait Cobb, inscribed 'To Scott, Ty Cobb - good luck to the Houston Astros, the AL's newest team' okay, forget that last part. |

That would be a sweet card! |

Looking forward to getting Al's package myself :o |

Shoulderless Card
3 Attachment(s)
Picked up these three Shoulderless Players cards. Pretty obscure set. The George Kelly was previously unknown until this one.
Here is the list of players shown on Old Card Board: http://www.oldcardboard.com/w/should...cardsetID=1472 (1) Rogers Hornsby Cardinals (2) Walter Maranville Pirates (3) A. Pennock (Herb) Yankees (4) E.A. Rommel Athletics (5) Babe Ruth Yankees (6) George Sisler Browns (7) K. R. Williams Browns (8) Ross Young (actually Youngs) Giants |
Nice, Jimi! If you'e gonna get a 1st example from a set might as well be a HOFer.
I've long liked this PC, so I was happy to pick it up: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...e/youngcy1.jpg |
Wheat Die Cut
1 Attachment(s)
Picked up this Baseball die cut of Zach Wheat. I have been collecting Wheat for about 30 years and this is the first one I have had a chance to buy. I know they arent much to look at but in my opinion they are very hard to obtain. Have seen a few team sets at different Nationals but never saw a Wheat for sale or I would have bought it. Took SCD for about 20 years and didnt see any there either. Has anyone else had trouble getting one of a player they were looking for? Thanks.

This Hafey is sort of lower grade, but still grades higher than the cancelled one I used to own...
Attachment 87878 Also, an update on my botched attempt to buy baseball cards on liveauctioneers.. Stanton Auctions apologized for offering the fake King Kelly and Julie Freeman cabinets and sent me a full refund. Thanks again to the board members who helped me save $450. |

M114 Baseball Magazine Supplements - holy grail item X 2
2 Attachment(s)
I have been collecting the M113 & M114 supplements for many years, and as of today have accumulated 765 different ones, but up until last month, I had never seen an example of a Mickey Mantle.
In the most recent Henry Yee auction, he had some printing plates matched with examples of their supplements, but his Mantle printing plate did not come with a supplement, so I took this as proof that they exist, but also proof that they are hard to come by. So, when one popped up on ebay at the end of January, with that classic shot of him batting righty, I was very happy to make it my own, even if his name is spelled wrong at the bottom. Imagine my surprise when less than two weeks later, a second Mantle appeared on ebay, this one the classic lefty batting pose, with the added bonus of his original #6 visible. I also was happy to give it a new home. Doug |
Febuary Pickups
2 Attachment(s)
Picked up this 1961 original wire photo of Mickey Mantle. I really enjoy the press photos as they are pretty unique and the action shots are incredible. (I think I should have put this in the memorabilia section-my bad!)
This is a beautiful pic of Mantle chasing Babe Ruth's home run record during the 1961 season. I am going to get it graded and display it next to my Mantle Hartland Statue. I also picked up the E101 Bescher in the Sterling Auction. It has a bad back but the front has great presentation. |

I concur -Such unusual behavior, it requires further study. ;) I would like to see anyone else that owns a Corcoran to post their Corcoran! We need to start a dual thread : "Please post your Corcoran" |

I thought the nine Bottomleys I had from the 1933 Goudeys were excessive :D.

100 Corcorans?! That might be more ambitious than going for the set :)

Nice Erick, this little EPDG project is starting to get serious :)

New pick up.
Very glad to add this piece to my collection. I am a sucker for well loved cards. Would have really enjoyed seeing the look on the SGC grader's face when he received this though.

Now that card is way under graded, you should resubmit it;)
|
Great card, Best...I'm sure the grader took one look at that and felt that it was going to be the easiest money he was going to make all year long...no thinking involved in!

To add: I wonder if Francis just had a bad day or two in the teens, or if it was a 100+ years of gradual cumulative abuse. Congrats on the pick up though! |
Another Detroit OJ
1 Attachment(s)
Extremely pleased with February thus far, first McGlone, now a nice Pete Conway. This particular pose was only issued in 1888 which makes it pretty tough. Thank you Toby!
|
You guys are funny. I rarely pick up pre-war cards but thought it was amazing what this card had gone through over the years. Yet, it was clearly cherished by someone, or I don't think it would still be around 100+ years later.
Thanks to the Net54 board member that sold me this. It has got a great home now, and will likely stay in my shoebox for years to come. |
