Probably had some chemicals of some type spilled on it, by the looks of it. That would usually earn a card an AUT grade.

I think it looks ok. I'd take it if given to me. :)

Thanks you both for your opinions. I have been a little gun shy on larger purchases since I bought a fake 52 Topps Mantle in a real PSA holder. Thank goodness for paypal/ebay buyer protection.

Nice card, Mike! As you know, those Kottons in VG or better are not easy!!!

Cheers,

Mikehealer 11-22-2012 07:08 PM

Thanks Blair, I agree. VG or better is higher grade for these. I like the thin types the best and finding one with nice corners is almost impossible.

That might be the best looking type 3 (I call them that) that I have ever seen. That is very high grade for those types. For the longest time the SCD had them incorrect in how they described them but I think they have it right now.

From recent auction:

Love the description:"..a big fellow..".
Wonder who was in charge of making up the descriptions. Was it someone who actually knew and watched baseball? Or simply had stats and made it up from there based on player image, height, demographics.

HRBAKER 11-24-2012 07:41 AM

Went by the Moeller Show on Friday. One of my best days of the year...my son and I eat junk and shop for baseball cards. Did some business with with my friend Dave at Baggers, who I highly recommend. Made a few pickups...a couple of upgrades to get the Monster in a little better shape. Also found one of those purple stamped numbers ISpikedCobb collects, which I'll pass along to him if he wants it or hang on to it if he doesn't. I also got a chance to pick up two AB beaters for $20 which I just couldn't pass. Had a great time...my son who is now 18, and I have been going to the show since he was 7.

Not a card but I thought you guys might like this, especially with Veterans Day just passing. I picked up this photo of The Babe last night. I love it. He's signing bats while in the military for other soldiers stationed around the country. The tags on the bats have the names of different bases on them.

The best part about the photo though is that it was taken on July 22, 1926. Exactly 59 years to the day before I was born.

Ed, I sent a link to one of those cards on ebay, to someone who said they were looking for them for a friend. If that friend is you, I'll send future notes to you instead.

2) American Theater Playbill for "Runaway Colt" starring Cap Anson
3) 1888 Hastings lithograph of the Boston Baseball Club (before and after restoration)
