A big pre-war month
First I get the W560 Lindstom, then two low grade 1929 Kashins including Hoyt, and then my grandpa gave me back the Diamond Stars Schoolboy Rowe I sent him. Woo hoo! With a November flourish I am back on pace for one pre-war card per month for the year.

Jason, that Crespo photo is classic - fantastic pick-up!
I put in about 8 snipes in PWCC's auctions last night, but only came up with a single win. I really wanted that E95 Plank, but too rich. http://host.jwcinc.net/712533/brent/...11/93_17_7.jpghttp://host.jwcinc.net/712533/brent/...11/93_18_7.jpg |
Big thanks to Paul Mifsud for this one...
Got an e-mail Black Friday from Paul, saying he had picked this one up at a show for me, was I interested in it? Of course! Thanks, Paul.

Nice, Ed! 200...!...Howe had quite a collection, huh?!
|
As the University of Florida (Gainesville) puts more online,
I get to find out more and more about Howe, and maybe how his collection got so large.
Seems his father was a business partner in a grocery store, where the family also lived. From all accounts, Howe never attended school, so I'm guessing he was at the grocery store all day every day, and probably was able to get the cards from customers who weren't interested in keeping them. Even found out his name is the last name of his father's business partner. |
Very cool, Ed! You'll have to put the info on a webpage someday, such a great story overall... one still being told!
|
A couple key pickups to this small, cool set I am working on.
