That does it, I am going to offer him $1.2 million off ebay before this thing gets too out of control.
|
Lol, you should offer him $50 legitimate dollars!
|

uh oh guys....i have a feeling, there is colusion going on here, I bet a few guys are doing the bidding on this card, cause they are PISSED about the whole thing The high bidder also bids on "Magic the Gathering" ??? i mean really?? |
I hope the winner is signed up for Ebay Bucks.
|
I bet people are buying up the boxes of Bowman Chromes right now trying to find another 1/1 Strasburg version hoping to hit the lottery:D
|
so am I to assume the ebay listing doesnt go above $999,999.99 ?? or are guys saying.. no way am I bidding one million...lol

after the 16K for the first Strasburg, the distributors starting gouging... they raised the prices from $100 a box to $1000, at least around here... My buddy owns a card store and he said that's what they did to him... it will only get worse now!

Now the retractions will start, watch.
|
I'm not overly familiar with the product, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a couple different colored 1 of 1's.... plus there are still plenty of other levels of Strasburg to be had within this series
|
After the auction, as a joke, someone should post it in the June Pickup Thread.
|
I still don't understand why his 2008 cards on Team USA are not his rookie cards -- 1985 Topps McGwire was a Team USA card.
|
Ichieh will be asking how much more it is worth if it gets a BGS 9.5....
Ironically enough, the first 1 of 1 graded a 9.5 (or so the re-listing claims) which surprised me as the centering was off! |

It's going to be interesting to see how many second offers are sent out on this card :D

 Seriously, how many different of these freakin' cards are out there? I'm waiting for a Gold Chromed, Uranium enriched, Sorcerer enchanted, Hobbit dipped in the fires of Mt. Vesuvius 1 of 1/2 version, before I put in any serious bids on this card. |
that third one isn't a one of one, it is an error card the guy is calling a 1 of 1
he'll be lucky to get $500 |
Are you "F"'n kidding. Almost a cool Mil. This card is worth more than a Wagner. Any shilling going in this you think???
Wish I had pulled this one.:D |
Quote:
I still ain't bidding on it unless it's been touched by Hobbits. ;) |
someone been smoking some doobie if they would pay a million dollars for that card! LOL
|
Only way to sell this card on eBay is to have a buy it now which includes an immediate payment required.
Some funny post here in the last few hours. |
It will be interesting to hear after the auction what this was all about. One possibility is the seller won't get paid. Another is whoever is bidding is going to buy a million dollars worth of PR.
What's certain is the winning bidder is not attempting to complete a 2010 Bowman set, and this is the last card he needs.:) |
Just a thought...
I'm fairly certain that WALMART sells Topps & Bowman, and history does tend to repeat itself...
|

This is obviously a scam with fake bids, some perhaps from people who are caught up in the sheer idiocy of this situation, and are just fooling around. |
I would like to see what happens if Strasburg gets shelled in his next outing. If the auction is still going, are the bidders going to pull out?
I still think that something fishy is going on here. Who would bid almost 1 mil for a player what has only played 3 major league games? |
It is 100 pct fake, must be.
The Taxman cometh too for the "seller" of this fantastic piece of history Now: a Sales pitch for anyone on here thinking of bidding: the best 1/1 card extant. Do not miss your opportunity to be a part of history, and the career of this true Superstar in the making. What are the limits of this amazing card? BOUNDLESS, just like Steven Strasburg's career. Is it a lot of money? Yes, but you need to spend money to make money. You will be the envy of all of your card collecting friends. Gold, Platinum, Diamonds, why buy those ? Get in on the ground floor and be on top of the world with Strasomania. BID NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. |
The t206 Honus Wagner NM-MT 8 sold for 2.8Mill> Can this Strasburgh reach 2.9Mill? I hope it does and he than turns into Fernando Venezuela!!!!!
Do you think the guy's in the locker room are giving him crap about this? |
There is no way this card will sell during this auction. The seller does not require bid registration so any idiot with an eBay account can hike the bidding up to a billion dollars if they wanted.
I can't wait to see what happens with this though and to see what it really sells for. |
Quote:
No, I think this auction is genuine crazy. I will probably be tracking this card for years to come. |
Jesus on toast only went for about 10 grand.
Jesus on cardboard.............well that's a whole 'nother story. :D Wonder if this Strasburg fella can walk on water. |
I don't think you can enter 7 digits before the decimal place, that's why bidding has stopped... it would be odd that several guys would bid 999,999.99 but in no way are they gonna bid one million, that's just too much!
If he can't walk on water, can he part the sea? |
I actually feel kind of sorry for the seller if the bids are not legit. The guy has 100% feedback and doesn't look to be a fraudulent account phishing for illicitly obtained money. He seems to have pulled a card at just the right moment and has a chance for some real bank from it but a bunch of yo-yos are messing with his auction. Just because a lot of collectors scoff at the hype and pricing of these sorts of cards doesn't mean that they have the right to wreck this guy's auction. Kinda basic manners, if you ask me, a Golden Rule sort of thing. I know I'd be pretty pissed off if I was selling something on Ebay and a bunch of dorks hijacked my auction and wrecked it for me.
Edited to add: I see he's now added this: Ebay has finally allowed me to pre-approve bidders. If you would like to bid on this item and are able and willing to pay please email me before bidding to get approval. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BID ON THIS ITEM please contact me also as I will be deleting bids of people who do not contact me. Thanks for your time. |
He's been deleting bids like crazy. At one point yesterday he had about 280. Right now he only has 168. It seems pointless to remove underbids, so I assume he is in fact disqualifying bidders.
On what basis can he determine which bidders are legitimate? |
He is going to get a million for this card. I bet the winning bidder is from a giant corp. and is going to use it for a promotion.
|
well even though he eliminated bids, the price still hasn't declined.... maybe 1.5 mill?? id be crapping my pants if this was my card....
|
Funny how this card hovers just south of 1 mil. You'd think someone would kick in the extra $500 to push it above 1 mil.
|
that's why i don't think you can enter 7 digits before the decimal, ebay probably has never needed that 7th digit... originally there were 5 people that bid 999,999.99 but not a single penny more.....
|
And the drop begins...back to "only" a half mil...
|
Now it's at $501,000. Are any of the bids real? Are we to assume that every one of the bids placed between 500K and 999K were fake? I still have no idea what's going on.
I see he deleted bids of those who never contacted him. Very strange indeed. |
Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think someone will be paying $500,000.00++ for this card. If the seller can get it,good for him/her,-I just don't think it will happen........
Clayton |
I honestly think he should re-list the auction, start over with ebay pre-qualifying the bidders..... get rid of all the crap.

"Entered wrong amount" is another way of saying fake bid. And there sure were a lot of them.
|
Entered wrong amount, i always think guys do this to see what the other person's "max" is
|
Easy to enter an accidental bid when there are that many zeros.
This card is going for well over twice the value of my house. Thoreau would not be impressed. |
Maybe the Nationals bid for this card...and will give it away as a publicity stunt...the 3 millionth customer to come through the gates before the end of the season gets the card presented to him/her from Strausburg himself.....then they could also write off the expense for business purposes..:)

I agree Tim. This auction is a real mess. And the seller seems to be a solid guy. It's the bidders who are playing games and screwing him up.
|
Looks like the seller took the advice of those here...all bids cancelled and it's back to 99 cents...
Steve |
That's really strange. Are we to assume none of those bids were real? That's impossible.
|
Maybe people are smarter than we sometimes give them credit for.

all bids were canceled and the auction closed. I am sure he will relist very soon....

I'm sure the bids were genuine up to say....fifty bucks. After that I'm not sure.:)

Barry.... i still think this card will go for 100k...... |
If it does, it will certainly reinforce my belief in P.T. Barnum's judgment.
|
I know it's worth more than fifty dollars but does anyone really believe this piece of...nothing...is worth 100K?
|
There are three Strasburg 1 of 1's. The red sold for $4k and the refractor sold for $16k. I think given the hype around these cards and Strasburg coupled with the autograph that this card will go for more than the other two. I will be surprised if it goes for $100k, I would guess more in the $30k-$50k range but who knows.
|
the re-sale of the superfractor is now at 24k with a day and a half left
I would never pay 1k for the auto card but my prediction is 100k based on the amount of idiots out there with too much money! |
Quote:
Jim, LOL! Do you define someone as an "idiot... with too much money," the very first time they outbid you on something, or does it take multiple auctions? |
LOL what a surprise.
2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg Red Autograph 1/1 AUTO 1/1 Autograph BEST CARD ON THE Market!!!! RARE!! AUTO Item condition: -- Ended: Jun 27, 201011:17:36 PDT Bid history: 0 bids |
I define an idiot as "someone who would spend 100k on a card that is a month old and of a player who has played 4 games." I remember awhile back there was another sure fire pitcher who came out of the blocks with his guns ablaze... his name, Kerry Woods.... he had amazing stuff at the start! It only takes one injury to make that card worth 20$.
It isn't hard to outbid me right now.. unemployed now for 7 months leaves my card budget at about 10$.... had some good interviews so hopefully the sun will shine on this IDIOTS ass soon....then i can buy a real card here and there and get back to the BST again.... at least with my birthday money i was able to get 4 deals done on the BST.... |
Quote:
|
The refractor winner who is reselling looks like he made a nice flip. It's at $23,599-6.10-($23,599*6%)=$22,190-$16,400=$5,790 profit. Thats more than I have spent on my entire collection!
|
The guy will most likely sell it through somebody so that the bidders can register before throwing up a 50K price as a joke. I hope that didn't cost him too much in fees.
|
So, what happened? Listing ended with 0 bids.
|
If anyone cares, the original Strasburg that was being re-sold, officially sold for 25k , so the guy made $8800 less ebay fees for his 3 weeks of owning the card....
and we were making fun of him! |
Quote:
Well now we can make fun of the guy who paid 25K for it. :D |
until the auto version gets re-listed, then we can make fun of him instead

Has anyone seen the video of Beckett grading this card? They tried to cash in on some cheap publicity and it really backfired on them. They used to be so tough on grading modern cards that a Beckett 9.5 used to mean something. Beckett customers are all over the web bashing the company now. I know they are customers because these are collectors on shiny card blogs and they are the ones using Beckett. Its kinda funny watching the video. They immediately begin explaining how a card off center front and back can grade gem mint. They also turned the card around fast enough before the auction ended. (not mentioned in the video) Raw - $16,400, Beckett graded - $25,000. The stunt did not work though. |
2-2 and he doesn't get to face Kansas City again this year and maybe only one more start against Pittsburgh. Let's wait and see how he does against the better teams in the National League.
I guess this will put all the All-Star game selection garbage to bed. |
Quote:
Jeez, after watching the game last night. Strasburg will be lucky to be a .500 pitcher as long as he's on the Nationals. |
