Hey Guys This aint no DOT on this Joe Doyle caption. In fact this MARK lines up precisely with the leading serif of the N in Nat'l....it also drops below the line of text, as does the N in the real Joe Doyle error card. It is indeed a remnant of the N. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1d18324b.jpg And, here are some more UPPER CAPTIONS........ http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01951811.jpg TED Z __________________________________________________ ______________________ LOOKING FOR these T206 guys to complete my AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 sub-set CAMNITZ....CRAWFORD (bat)....DOYLE (port)....JORDAN (bat)....MARQUARD McGRAW (port-cap).....McQUILLAN (bat).....TINKER (bat off).....WILTSE (port-cap) . |

Instead of starting it's own thread I'll reopen this one. I was going through the set I just got back and this one caught my eye. The letters in the team name are seriously funky. I did a search of Purtell cards and all looked normal. Any thoughts?
|
I sort of looks like some letters were missing and someone wrote them in?
Could be another one of the ones where the caption didn't transfer to the plate properly, but in this case it got fixed. All the press operator would need to do to fix it would be to scratch in the missing letters. Steve B |
never seen this.....
not sure if that's ink??? added from after factory?? need a better scan...
|
Looks like someone went over it in pen. is it slabbed with an MK by any chance? need better scans.
|

It definitely looks that way to me. |

Sorry for the delay guys. The ink is original to the card. So small that i don't think you could write it with a pen and it's the right color. Can everyone check their Purtells and maybe we can find another.

Can you guys tell me why the red would be off on both sides of this? Also, are the two dots of red on the side just to the left of his head ink drops or something that was spilled on the card later? Not as weird/cool as most of you have, but interesting to me.
|

Under the red at the left, there's a slightly lighter band the same width as the pink that sticks out at the right. And a similar but smaller vertical band at the right. It's hard to tell about the other spots. Could be stains, could be spattered ink. Even in hand it can be hard to tell sometimes. Steve B |

Just wanted to share this pretty awesome grid that Chris helped create. I'm really stoked about how the group is shaping up...thanks to several collectors, you know who you are.
|
Wow....
Mike.......that is amazing!:eek::)
|
Really great stuff!!
Has anyone started a site (other than a thread) where you can post and keep track of all T206 back mis-cuts? If everyone that owned some/one was willing/able to upload them to one site, we might be able to piece together a partial sheet. Just thinking out loud... |

Mike,
I'm pretty sure those would get a qualifier if submitted to PSA. Word to the wise...if you're going to sell, do not get them slabbed!!! (Neat cards by the way) |
Thanks guys!
Mike- they're actually all slabbed by SGC. ;) |

In looking through some T206's, looked at this one again. There is a horizontal print mark at top white border about midline.......The topic of print marks, oddities, color changes often spoke of here. I have read some of the topic but dont know the significance of this mark. Does it change the value of this card to someone who is looking for these?. I have seen the marks on the images of the proof T206 cards that have been spoken of in past. I dont delve into this subject much but I know others do.

Bresnahan is one of those T206s that the more examples you look at, the more subtle differences/oddities you notice. Here are a few examples: 1 - Printer's mark 2 - Notice his hat, strange red ink pattern, AB/F 350 back 3 - Crop line Jantz |

I apologize if this doesn't belong here, and I also posted these in the July pick ups, but I have got no response on them, and thought maybe if I put them here I would get a comment. Also, is it wrong to revive an old thread? I mean, this one could theoretically go on for ever, I bet there are always new errors popping up? Anyway, is the one card missing a color, or is it just faded? Either way, I think it is really a cool looking card. Thanks for any comments.

T206 Taylor
Is there any miscut, 2 name, or some odd looking on T206 Taylor, Buffalo??
I have over 50 Taylors and I haven't seen anything being imperfect. Best, Danny |
I will look....

Not too many oddities in my T206 collection; however, here's a Tolstoi Ed Abbaticchio WST that I enjoy. Even the Factory designation is visible. :)
|
Eric P - Here is the twin Abbaticchio to yours. Mine says "factory" below Pittsburg though.
Jantz |
those are beauties!
nice wst ers:)
factory design are rarely seen on the front like that:eek: |
No freak, just nature
The Jury is in, and my Coles card from my earlier post is faded. Faded glory, still a beautiful card!
Ed |
A ton of my Tolstoi's have wet sheet transfers. I think it most be common with Tolstoi's but I could be wrong.
|
Ed....
just a theory but not 100%:).....you got a great eye my friend:D
tolstois are the most common wst transfer front(esp the yellow background ones) iv been watching them for approx. 15 years and can say 100% tolstois are the most common.... thinking a printer was in a hurry when printing the stois!!!!!!!!!(maybe had a hot date that day:)) |

Man, I don't know what you guys see in these cards. To me they are hard to look at, like disfigured children or something.

To each their own, of course. EDITED TO ADD: you need to quit posting so often. :) Best regards, Eric |

that's the beauty of them:).....like the land of the misfit toys!!!

I couldn't agree more. BTW...my transformation to the Dark Side is nearly complete. I find myself searching the bay (and the BST) for these "misfits" more and more each day. Guess I am addicted to the outliers of the T206 set. Frankly, I didn't see it coming; however, I do like the oddball cards. Out of curiosity, are the Piedmont 150 series cards more likely to contain color shifts, print errors, etc? I only ask because you are the resident expert on these matters and I am looking to delve deeper into the "freaks" of T206. Please let me know. Hope all is well. Best regards, Eric |
Eric....
Yes!! That's how it starts..:)..you look for little ones at first....then it only snowballs! regular T206 start to look "strange" and the freaks take on a new beauty....
it's like a treasure hunt.....wait until one day you get a huge haul like a printer scrap:) and yes, in the 150 series, there are more probabilities of the freaks from the early learning curve of the printers....:) BTW....thanks for the kind words.....you have become a great poster and a great hunter! please email me with any questions on these beauties... glad to have you in the community and look forward to your posts....:) keep looking for that "Frank in the box";) |

Thank you very much. I appreciate your feedback. Here's another T206 that I picked up which could be considered a bit of a "freak," due to the color shift. :D Hope all is well. Best regards, Eric |

I usually don't buy ungraded cards - but figured I could make an exception. Picked up this Griffith "missing I" card.
|
Would appreciate any insight from the printing experts/error collectors on this one.
Plate/printer issue? It appears to be printed on the card (@ factory) and has affected the back. http://i.imgur.com/MNNoYYP.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8302/...178ae91e_b.jpg |
I've never seen one like that Chris. Very cool.
|
I've had this for years and didn't think much of it until I recently saw a second example.

Chris- that's the elusive Willett w/ "Hockey Stick" on shoulder...only found in Canada! :)
Cool card. |
Its someone poking him on the shoulder

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
i think this may have been a plate issue:confused:

It's very interesting. I wonder if it's some kind of part or something off
the press that stuck to the plate. |
Chris....
after taking a second look with your blown up scan.....front " blue bat" def looks printed!!!......this one has me confused!

Searched 6 years of sales and found the following. Most have some back damage at the bottom of the "hockey stick".

So weird. I would have bet it was after the factory, but with 6 instances, I stand corrected. I'd love to see the back of the orange one. But regardless, I'm stumped. |
It looks like the orange one might have paper on the back.
