As far as a cardboard version of the ad - I have never seen one.
Since it is for Armour Franks, I would think a grocery store / super market would have been the place that a cardboard advertising sign would have been used. Probably would have been a difficult placement in the deli section.
But then again - items do show.
Your Mantle photo is outstanding - how did you get that one?

Type I - 1952 Spring Training. To me Mickey's expression seems both majestic and pensive at the same time - perhaps conveying the conflicting sense of confidence and self-doubt that he still felt going into his sophomore year.

Thanks Jerry- I've never seen one either. Would be a great find!!!! I got the Gallo photo several years ago but at the moment can't remember if it was from an auction or private sale - I do remember I jumped at the chance to purchase it when I saw the original stamping.

Love that card Bill. Interesting how they slightly modified and enlarged the image from the '51 Bowman card for the '53 Topps.

BTW... that 52 Spring Training photo is yet another MONSTER image of the Mick! There will come a time Craig, that we're gonna have to talk trade...

You are probably right Jimmy, but if you rotate the '51 image of Mickey's face to the more upright position found in the '53 you will see more of the similarities although they clearly enhanced/changed some details. It still seems possible to me that the '51 Bowman image formed the basis for the '53 Topps.

Type I photo of the Mick with Mel Allen. Used for a "Sports Quiz" August of 1954 in Sport Magazine. Not that many images of the two together during Mickey's early years. Love the smile on Mickey and that ghostly image of the YS stands in the background.

My favorite Mantle ball since its the only one inscribed with the #7 and I have wanted one for years and finally bought one. It was an upper deck ball until the previous owner took off the sticker, and now its got a full letter from PSA/DNA.

I recently picked up my first Mantle autograph. This was a two page foldout from the April '69 issue of Sport magazine. This insert pays tribute to Mantle and the upcoming "Mickey Mantle Day" at Yankee Stadium during which Mantle's number was retired. Even a non-sports fan should see the simple beauty of a Mantle signature.

My father got this back in the late 80's in Westchester county (he's a huge Mantle fan. I am too but I grew up rooting for the Mets :D) All he had to do was pay $5 a ball. Got two Mantle's and one Aaron. I sold one of the Mantle's and got this from The Written Word:

Craig, I haven't built the piece yet, but Berra at top is probably a good idea.

Another option I just thought of, would be to get a more recent single-signed Mantle ball, and trade out the blank panel for the one on my ball. Just kidding.

Thanx Scott. I agree, that's one of my favorite scorecards. I also have first career HR scorecards for Aaron, Mays, Killebrew, Stargell, Snider, Frank Howard, Cepeda, Hodges, Berra & Richie Allen.

I don't have a ticket for that game, I don't collect tickets per se, but I do have a bunch that have come with the programs / scorecards that I have collected.

I think my earliest stub for a Mantle played game is June 17, 1951. I think my earliest Mantle HR stub is April 21, 1954 where he hit #2 for the season, which was #59 of his career.

Here are two Mantle items from my collection.

This was autographed by the Mick at the National in the mid 80s. I am afraid to clean the glove too much, autograph a little hard to read due to the dark leather, but I am glad I still had him sign this old glove that I picked up at garage sale for $5.

The 1947 Whiz Kids, featuring a 16-year-old Mickey Mantle on his first pro team (semi-pro). This is an original photo that was given to the players. It was owned by Guy Crow, the batboy, who is sitting on the left end of the right bench. There are a few signatures in addition to Mantle's, but they are hard to make out.

Looks like a real Mantle to me
