From Painful Downsizing Inventory --- I'm up to the " M "s

..I imagine these three 1939 Canadian Goudey V-351 premiums fit in here. And Joe "Ducky" Medwick from his time with the Cardinals . It's a Burke 4 x 6 , and as artsy/craftsy as George could be. He had the best 1930's job everrr.

Unique Never-before-seen 1930's Hank Greenberg,:

.. On EBAY right now : eBay item number:365170740365

..Or : " Do not hire 'part-time evenings/weekends' high school girls to work in your grading division." (The fingernail-polish-remover fumes affect the judgement skills.)

Instead of unusual, I like to refer to these Centennial Flour cards as non-usual, as they are from a couple of the few card sets that were issued during US involvement in World War 2, and are fairly uncommon. The cool Kats card (plays well with others despite his severe charley-horse) is from the 1943 set, while PCL Hall of Famer Gyselman (not to be confused with Theodor 'Dr.' Seuss Geisel) is from the 1944 set.

I was set up at a show in LA about 30 years ago when a complete run of Centennial Flour cards walked in. I eventually rounded up a Standard Catalog and we identified the cards but the seller then wanted the NM column price per card. He left with the cards.

That would have been a nice pickup...of course buying at the NM book price at that time would have felt like diving in the deep end of a very shallow pool.

My examples shown above have holes, but when I got them eight years ago from Ebay they came at a very nice price (about $2.00 each, which included shipping).

Thanks Mike! We'll see what this is in a few days. Worst case, I fill a hole in for R313A. Best case, it comes in and looks exactly like it does in the photo.

Oh Oh Oh My My My-- oh no he didden !

..Everyone who's ever been over the years buying pre-war "lots", bunches , groups , "collections ", junk drawers etc. etc. has a pile of cards which have undergone uh , personalization by a previous owner :

But if the 1936 National Chicle Fine Pens R313 Guru ,our own Tim N. , verifies that Hank as eligible for a number grade as it is , instead of "A Evid Trim" , then I'm rich . RICH I TELL YA !! And I owe it all to the kids in the basement at PSA .

The times , they are achangin'......

.. Sadly , few parents nowadays name their baby boys Buzz or Fabian anymore.

On a happier note though , nowadays very few boys buy cigars just so they can redeem the wrappers for pictures of their favorite local minor league ballplayers with really swell names .

Alas, it wasn't as it looked like in the pic and will be going back. Plus the trimmed borders....but I was really hoping for some one-off real photo R313a. I have seen things like that (maybe not exactly) happen before.

Here's another seldom seen card.
Mack, smoking a stogey!
