Friendly bump here with the 1918 White Sox team post card, that has a 1918 postmark w/ stamp on the back. Looks like Joe has a nice tan.

Amazing pieces in your collection!

JC - Great postcard. Any chance that it is from 1917, picturing their World Championship team and the postcard happened to be mailed in 1918? I wonder if any of the pictured players can date it to a specific year.

It looks like Jackson is wearing a different uniform than all the others.

Shoeless Joe

Great postcard Jay, amazing. Being a huge Jackson fan really been enjoying this ongoing thread, keep them coming. Anyway, love historic pieces especially tied to a precise moment. August 1`st 1920 less than 2 months away from Joe being banished and Babe`s 1`st season with N Y. Overflow crowd to see these 2 greats going at it, so much so, there`s 15 feet of spectators standing across the outfield roped off from players. Babe hits a shot into left, Jackson basically disappears into said crowd then reappears with the ball. Babe called out and of course blows a gasket. Enclosed is the game`s program, interestingly Ruth scored as 0 for 4, and the protest letter NY sent to league president Ban Johnson. If you`d like to read details, really cool about the play, tap the letter to super impose.

I have always wondered about a Joe Jackson card I have that has the same image as a 1915 W UNC Joe Jackson, but with different sizing than posted on PSA's website. Has anyone ever found an alternative size on any of these cards?

Approximately the size of a 1 oz Silver bar

*I have never found any reprints or counterfeits of this card or anything close, so any help at all in proving a counterfeit exists or if I have a previously unknown version would be extremely helpful to me. I have zoomed in down below for additional detail but the image is extremely brittle and blurred. When zoom is used, you can see the fibers on the card appear similar to a typical W UNC hand-cut magnified

The corner fraying looks old and very natural under the microscope --- 90X Corner Magnification

As usual, you are totally correct Kevin. When I posted this originally, I didn’t study the card much and assumed. With a mailing date of May 1918 it would totally make sense it’s 1917. Interesting Joe is in a plain jersey and looks like he just got back from the beach.

Lorewalker 07-07-2023 12:26 PM

Here https://postimg.cc/RJMvgjL4 is a photo that was used for the postcard. Looks like the same jersey, to me, sans the Sox. So Joe went shoeless and soxless, at points in his career. At first I thought it was obscured but does not appear so.

That postcard of the Sox is great. I was struck how virtually everyone in the photo is smiling and looks happy except Chick Gandel who may be plotting something for the future. He really looks like a mean hombre.

Joe Jackson - doppelgänger

An amazing resemblance between Joe Jackson and the player sitting in the rear of the vehicle - not to mention, the irony of the team being from "Greenville."

The RPPC is postmarked 1 Aug 1909 from Greenville, Georgia - everyone knows, Jackson played for Greenville, South Carolina - however, he was living in Savannah, Georgia at the time this card was postmarked.

The only difference I can really see is the length of the sideburns... Other than that, his build and all facial features are very similar...

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2023 01:17 PM

I know we've analyzed this one before. It is a weird coincidence.

Lorewalker 08-28-2023 02:16 PM

Would be cool if it were, but I am not seeing Jax in the person in the postcard but far from an expert on that. On occasion I have not been able to id myself in a photo so there's that.

JollyElm 08-28-2023 02:55 PM

That is NOT Joe Jackson. For the love of God, how many times can we play this same stupid game??????????!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucas00 08-28-2023 03:04 PM

To me it’s not even 50% Joe. The facial structure is completely different.

mrreality68 08-28-2023 04:41 PM

Sadly I have to agree with others

It does not look like Joe jackson

Only the ears match but nothing else

rickalaska 08-28-2023 05:50 PM

Jackson

Nobody ever said it was Joe Jackson - it was interesting enough to post on this thread though.

This is Net 54, don't expect people to read your actual words.

Ya expect me to read? I cannot id myself in photos. I should be given a pass however it felt like his post was soliciting opinions, because he did not write that he himself did not think it was Jax.

Swing first, by all means!

LOL too funny, Chase. But yeah, the title of his post, Joe Jackson doppelganger, was a clue he was not saying it was or could be Jackson.

Doh! I see that now. Never read titles within a thread. I must do better!!!! Appreciate the assistance.

brianp-beme 08-29-2023 12:45 AM

I thought him wearing black socks without shoes was strictly a stylistic choice

I never realized that Joe was a member of the Doppel gang.

Fantastic! Best I've seen, I think.

1919 W514 one of Jackson’s last White Sox cards. Apparently went on a diet to slim down in size.

Found another Team Postcard which I’m going to say again is 1918 (correct me if wrong). Hoping this is Joe Jackson being looked down upon…

Below is an article about the game that day. This pic is the same one in the article:
