I realize it's just a common; however, I really like the look of this card. Interesting structure in the background, slight color shift (especially around the cap) and a sky filled with the colors of sunset.
Picked this up from a fellow board member. Thanks, Bill...much appreciated. |

I appreciate your ability to recognize baseball cards as small pieces of artwork, especially enjoy your 56 Topps thread. |

My first Duffy card, his last star season was his age 30 season in 1897, but Duffy is a "real HOFer" in my book. Won it for $60, seemed like a good price as I work through the low-end T206 Hall of Fame cards.

Picked up these four 1930 W554 HOF cards. Low grade but tough cards to find. I previously had a low grade Lou Gehrig SGC 10 in my collection.

My white whale has finally came in. I have been pursuing this card for over 10 years and now can move on.
Had a well fought battle in the Heritage auction with another Joe Wood fan I presume and had to pay up but I am very happy.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...380e4f4458.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...61c64dfd8c.jpg Sent from my SM-A505U using Tapatalk |

REA Pickup and EBay. Going for a back run, but I "think" the ungraded one is a scrap, so I treated it differently :)

My first ever "pick-up" post.
These cards were, literally, the ones that got me interested in vintage cards back in 1983. I was visiting a dear family friend with my parents...the adults were doing their adult things and I was sitting on a porch ripping into some '83 topps packs, watching the Braves play on TV. The friend saw what I was doing, and went to retrieve his childhood collection to share...we talked for what seemed like hours about the players, baseball and his fandom of Heine Manush. He was a super cool guy...WW2 vet, Ohio State track guy...just a good dude I was hooked... Fast forward almost 40 years. I re-connected with this gentlemen's daughter after finding a birthday card he had sent me years ago with a '33 Goudey Jesse Haines inside. All of our parent's recently passed, we were catching up and baseball came up...and I asked whatever happened to that wonderful collection. Long story short, I was honored to be able to add these cards to my and my dad's collection. The Ruth has a couple of creases, but overall pretty nice in hand. Certainly not high grade, but presentable. All of the Diamond Stars are actually very nice...again, not high grade but no creases, just corners and surface wear. The '33 Foxx, Bengough and Grove are pretty rough...but "intact" and look look just like I remember them. I had even saved the piece of paper where I had "catalogued" these back in '83. sorry for the ramble...I love this site and have enjoyed talking with some of you hope y'all have a great Memorial Day...I'll be watching baseball, looking at these cards...and I think i have a couple of old '83 topps packs to rip into Mike |

Out On A Limb.......
..Even though there's several days left in the month , I'm gonna go out on a limb here and pronounce your post of that ''pick-up'' as the winner of May 2021......thanks , great story , the stuff from which dreams are made..
.. |
Man. That's fantastic! My parents' friends were useless.
|
Great story Mike, those cards couldn't have found a better home.
|
I love that story, Mike. So glad they made their way to you.
I have nothing like that to share, but I made a friendly trade here on the forum and sent this to SGC (graded and mailed back in 5 days!) when it arrived. A really nice card I'm happy to own. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7b6a20f7_z.jpg |
Thanks guys...how can you not be romantic about baseball
