That's "Big Ben" Pound, heavyweight boxer, with Walter during spring training 1927.

Raybestos Brakettes
1 Attachment(s)
Picked up this Raybestos Brakettes sign a few weeks back, and just go to clean it up... from the estate of Softball Hall of Famer Vincent "Wee" Devitt & something that likely hung at Raybestos Memorial field in Stratford during the 1960's...
Cool sign that is a little larger than 3' x 1" and makes note of their championship 1966 season 74-4!!! |

Today has been a very good day. I'm sitting by the pool at the Phoenix Embassy Suites enjoying a couple of Cuba Libres. I got a bit of a sunburn watching the A's and Reds earlier today. Now I am getting ready to head out for a nice steak dinner. The perfect topper for this glorious day was this Pirate hedonist picking up this full opening day ticket for my beloved 1971 Bucs. I know its not vintage but it warms my heart. I fell in love with baseball in 1971 because of this team. As the saying goes you stay with who took you to the dance. I suppose you could call this my ticket to the dance:D

I believe there is one other known example, but yours is the only one I've actually seen pictured. I got mine about a decade ago. It wasn't cheap, but has remained one of my very favorite figural pieces. I love the gothic look and gigantic hands (supposedly, Wagner had huge hands). I suppose these could be bookends, due to the shape and flat back sides. But they certainly don't seem heavy enough to support many books. Much more decorative than functional, if indeed that's the case. I just refer to mine as "The Honus Wagner Statue". Glad to see he has a long-lost sibling out there :D Thanks for posting! |
