Would have retired from the Marine Corps last month but got out a handful of years ago. Wasn't sure how many more lives this cat had left in him. Got out with enough sanity to start a beautiful family and now I sell stuff to the government.

I work for an insurance company in the 'burbs of Boston on the investments side of the house. Not nearly as exciting as everyone else's job (or so it seems). One might argue that I have a part-time job of baseball card collecting (and occasional selling) during the day. Sometimes I wonder if my hobby/addiction will turn into something more full-time. |

Just wanted to say thank you to all those who served in the military.
I fix teeth :) |
Licensed Civil Engineer, was doing commercial site design until commercial construction pretty much stopped during the recession and that job went away in 2009. Ramped up selling collectibles (primarily on eBay) from on-the-side to full-time, and have been doing that ever since. I essentially took a big pay cut, and the hours are about the same, but working from home means I see my boys (3 yrs & 9 mos) much more than I would otherwise. As long as the ends are still meeting (barely), I think it's worth it, though there are times that the stability of a regular engineering job can be pretty tempting.

Thanks to all of the N54 members who served in the military. You'll never hear me refer to any sports figure as a hero (never did, even as a child). I save that for all of you! FYI... whenever I'm feeling bad that I have to work a lot of hours or even a little depressed, I watch a war movie (started doing this when I was about 25). It doesn't take long for me to realize I have nothing to complain about.
Sold my business and retired when I was 40. Retirement lasted one year (pretty much the most boring year of my life). I realize now I want to work right up to the day I die. Right now I'm manage a golf course, restaurant and banquet facility I bought with some friends and family in 2002. I'm also own a software consulting business which is really my primary job. |
