Agreed, the end price in REA will tend to be quite a bit higher for many of the lots. I have bid some already and will simply wait for the catalog.

The ongoing Heritage Auction has added a bit of competition in the similar time frame.

I do not want to judge what you do in terms of bidding or buying, but patience is not a bad thing. I bought(probably all of us have) some cards a few years ago(that if I had waited), I could have obtained cheaper. But it is your call. It is still a free country(at least for now).

Good luck to you as well...I have only one card I want I am pretty sure I can win it it is not that expensive of a card...just a nice example.

I am just saying that I have seen this act before and people end up giving up 20 percent to an auction house to sell the cards at 60-70 percent of what they paid. You have time, none of these overpriced cards are going anywhere, don't rush in.

I guess that card will be a live and learn card. Why is it so rare as people say? I was told that there are about 100 to 150 examples known compared to say the T206 Ray Demmitt with about 200 to 400 known.

You overpaid about 1500 on the Wright... Who cares though, right? Just enjoy it.

The Wright last sold for 4000$ a few years ago and I paid 4250$ so I paid 250$ to much for it not 1500$. Personally I do see cards as a investment probably never will.

As i recall nobody has a good explanation. That said, keep in mind itbis a common and only of value to set builders and the set while popular cant touch t206 and other sets where there will always be an influx of new buyers. So that is a recipe for declining value over time as there is less competition for each available copy.

Value is an opinion, but you're wrong about previous pricing... It sold for close to 3k (still a bit high) I think he might have had a hard time getting his money back had you not come along... Now he's probably eating steak ;)

Sold for 3883$. So I paid +- 400$ more over a 2 year period because it sold in 2011 on Heritage for that price.

I do my research before paying if I only saw the auction you talked about at less than 3000$ I would not have paid 4250$ for it believe me!!!

Thinking of bidding on this one. Any of you Goudey experts: does side to side look ok (i.e. not trimmed)? Those borders look pretty thin, though perfectly centered.

You can see on page 12 that I did not overpay much for the 1887 Old Judge card last sold for 388$ in 2011 and I paid 4250$ 2 years later in 2013.

Considering I used to own that very card, probably not. Reason I sold it in the first place was to upgrade.

My mistake... Wonka is right, don't let any of us tell you how to spend your money... You earned it, it's yours.

I've paid retail for a few cards that caught my eye, it's no big deal. Just enjoy yourself and try not to burn yourself out too quick.

Maybe I've missed it all these (3) years but it seems the other big spenders normally humbly post their pickups (usually in the monthly pickup thread) without dollar signs attached and the compliments roll in anyway.

There are as you well know but there seems to a balance of good people and bad people as for coin collectors they are mostly bad/nasty people. Grumpy old men mostly collect coins.

And also made a wish for humility. I love to see the cards in folks collections - I don't really care how much they cost others - I just like to look at cards. I'll check the book on life to see if it is possible to look at cards without knowing what they cost.;)

I will see what I can do I need to get a new passport done (I will get one done soon for sure). I will not bring any cards to show because of customs and security reasons. I can't say just yet because a lot can happen from here till then.

You bought some quality cards that I only wish I could afford and I applaud you for being able to do it!

Its nice you can buy what u want. But, if u read this forum, not a lot gloat about how much they spend. Some of us on here can't even buy a 20.00 card. Is thatjealousy? YES IT IS, but I wouldn't gloat that I spent thousands here and there if I did have the money, makes other s feel lousy.

Not my intention at all I grew up poor I understand what you mean...next time out of respect I will not mention the price I paid.

First of all, let's not get all sacrosanct about the cards and prices here. We live in a free market, I think everyone is aware of price and is unafraid to discuss what things are worth. Now, whether we would choose to do that with folks outside the collecting community, it could be distasteful without being asked. I've debated whether to tell people even when asked, but inside the hobby is a different story. Everyone here is spending cash on cards - let's face it.

Adrian, did he overpay? It is a matter of opinion, really. Probably, yes. But not dramatically, and he generally bought classic cards. PSA 5 Wright, it last sold for $3850, there were two other people out there willing to pay in that range, he is not alone then. If PSA set registry guys start to jump all over the set, the price could explode, they don't care if the image is faded or whatever. Anything is possible.

Yeah, Adrian has been impulsive, but he has got the cash to burn. When I had cash, I tore through it, I was even worse than Adrian, I mean, I bought two blockbuster cards in the span of three months. Granted, I purchased them at auction, it's a little different (or a lot different), but the point being that it's easy to burn through money when you've got it.

I also smoked through $5750 buying a Whitney with Dog card. Hall of Famer? No. Rare pose? Nyet. But I love the card, so who's to really say? Adrian obviously didn't want to follow my advice and wait for the auctions, it's his prerogative. Doesn't sound like he did too badly on the Mick, that must be a hot card right now if he's gotten two offers already.

Point being, he's one of us. He's a collector, he's got his ways, there are maybe more savvy collectors out there, but we've all seen worse, and even if his style is a bit manic, he belongs on the board, he is one of us. The hobby needs new collectors, it is the only way it can grow. So welcome, Adrian, and again, congrats on the pickups. Enjoy.

Who cares what you would buy no offense. He’s the one who bought them and he’s happy. I would bet the seller is too. So in then end your opinion on the subject doesn’t affect or even register with the two parties involved.

To all on prices while I agree that you can buy collectibles smart and within certain ranges in terms of price, if you educate yourself a bit and exercise a bit of patience. However with that said at the end of the day the bulk of this is worth what someone is willing to pay you for it. These are not things with firm regulated fixed prices.

Win some you lose some that’s the name of the collecting game. Adrian is stoked he found this hobby he’s doing his buying sprint let him enjoy it and be happy he has the interest to be so excited about a hobby we all have money tied too.

Now I do agree Adrian can post them in the pickups with the rest of jackwagons. :)

Sure the occasional look what I did thread is cool but lots of them can rub folks the wrong way etc. but in the end C'est la vie.
