Also good for picking up decent looking vintage Mantles.

Really nice card. Yikes, Mantle led the league in strikeouts in 1954 - these days, you have utility infielders who strike out more than that.

Cool pickups, everyone!

Almost posted this on the prewar side... whooops. Special thanks to Dean H. for offering up his really nice Jackie Robinson rookie. How fitting that the first line on the reverse wastes no time in pointing out Jackie's great accomplishment. A classic card of a true American hero...

Looks great Chuck! It fits into your collection perfectly. Thanks to you for a great transaction. Enjoy.

Wow...great 55 Mantle...and even COOLER Jackie card.

A couple of my new cards..

I know these aren't really killer cards, but they are getting me closer to completing my 54 set. Only 90 left! Also, went to a local shop who got some new vintage in and picked up these -

1955 Topps #2 Ted Williams
1957 Topps #62 Billy Martin
1957 Topps #80 Gil Hodges
1957 Topps #201 Sandy Amoros
1957 Topps #125 Al Kaline
1957 Topps #203 Hoyt Wilhelm
1957 Topps #277 Johnny Podres
1964 Topps #200 Sandy Koufax
1964 Topps #150 Willie Mays
1964 Topps #260 Frank Robinson
1968 Topps #280 Mickey Mantle

The 55 was indulgence (EX plus too) and the 57s were for my new set goal. The 64s are for my future goal and the 68 Mantle is one of the last big 68 cards to get...although still need the Clemente. Need a scanner!!!

That's a half season for somebody like Mark Reynolds. The last five seasons, Reynolds' strike out totals have been 204, 223, 211, 196 and 159. 199 strikeouts per season (and 217 per 162 games). I'm sorry, 164 home runs over that 5 year period isn't worth 993 strikeouts.

As always, some beautiful cards, guys.

Chuck and Jose, I really love the Jackie Robinsons.

CW 02-24-2013 09:14 AM

Thankyou, guys -- appreciate it. :)

I'm with you, Bill. Unfortunately, the geniuses who run my local favorite team apparently disagree: they just inked Reynolds to a huge contract to flail away with runners on base.:o

Great looking Jackie

I picked up quite a few '55 Topps cards this month and now have a total of 79/206. Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews was my favorite. :)

Many thanks to a fellow board member for making this available at a great price.

Best Regards,

Eric

Eric that's a clean Eddie..great pick up

CW 02-27-2013 09:25 PM

Centering is spot on, too. Very nice.

Eric72 02-28-2013 06:14 PM

D Marvin…Chuck W…Thanks for the kind words. The Mathews is precisely what I like in a '55 Topps card...well-centered, crease-free, mid-range condition, and inexpensive.

To everyone - I hope your February was a good one. Best wishes for some great pickups in March.

Happy collecting,

Eric
