:D I would have to agree, guys. Cool cards!

One of the cool things about the '14s is that you can hold them up to the light and see right through them, they're so thin.

This one arrived yesterday. Wahoo!

Nice Cobb, Jeff.

bigwinnerx 12-12-2012 08:47 AM

Picked these up at Chantilly a few months ago but only got to take a few camera phone pictures today. If you guys see any articles where you want a better picture/scan let me know and I'll try to post it.

First picture set link is a 1941 Scrapbook chronicling Spring Training articles published in the Greensboro, NC newspaper. Lots of interesting stuff such as a picture of Ty Cobb.

Second picture set link only shows a few choice pictures of the entire Composition notebook. This one covers 1947 Spring Training. Lots of articles about Jackie Robinson breaking in, guys coming back from war, Evers obituary, among other items.

Arrived in the mail today. Nice crop line on the back. Its hard to see in the scan, but this T206 also has a light blue "+" in the right upper corner on the front.

Always felt this was the best of the t200 images--fairly close up (unlike some), sharp photo (ditto), dark uniforms setting it off nicely.

Thanks, I was coveting the one from the Dreier collection that sold for 8K (It was a PSA 5 or something like that I think?) Anway, this card has been on my want list for a long time and I finally found one that didn't completely break the bank.

Apparently my scanner sucks, but I just got a Kisinger with a crop mark in the top right that Jantz and Tim confirmed was an unknown crop mark player. It was much easier to see on the ebay scan and also in person. I wouldn't have bought it based on my scans, that's for sure! Also has a slight wet sheet transfer on front/top. Also thought it was cool that the B missed a little on the front, so it has a shadow effect. Two B's or not two B's is the question? :)

Interesting. I just picked up a Kisinger as well - same Piedmont WS transfer in the same location on the front. But no crop mark

Thanks Scott. It's the ugliest card I've ever purchased, but I couldn't help myself.

Mostly lower to mid grade cards. The Lundgren has the PD350 back. I scanned with a little copycat scanner so the images are wonky.

Seems like most of the T216s out there are in really shabby condition. I have a T216 wagner (or, more accurately said, a piece of one) that SGC wouldn't encapsulate because they were afraid it would make what remains of the card fall apart.

One more pickup:
I plan on busting this one out of its plastic tomb and putting in a little display along with the M116 wagner and johnson I have (both pastel, and pretty beat up like this cobb. Actually this cobb is in the best condition of the 3.) But, I love cards that are worn out a bit, makes them look older and feel more "real" to me.

calvindog 12-13-2012 09:38 AM

Been after this one for a very long time.

I'm a big fan of the m116 blue backgrounds. Fantastic centering on that Cobb!

Picked up a Young from t206hound to go with my "wow, how is that still one piece?" Cobb from bbcard1 earlier in the year. Both look great in my office.

Thanks! Yeah I really love the M116 set. Haven't started collecting the whole set as I'm not really a set collector, but the few cards I have (wagner, johnson, bender, tinker) are some of my favorite cards in my collection.

While it looks a little like Mickey Mouse, I believe it to be Ty Cobb.

chaddurbin 12-13-2012 05:20 PM

how thick is the paper stock on the t216 cobb? did you darken the scan? makes the card's color looks a little weird, like a reprint.

Are T216s really thin? Looks like quite a few layers of paper there. (Never owned one personally, so I am obviously no expert on the issue).
