The snapshot at the end of the last post was of Dizzy Dean and Ty Cobb at a dinner together in later years.

Oops, one more....

I am excited to pick up what I would consider one of my holy grail cards, one I hadn't really anticipated owning due to its value, it also puts a "small" dent in the 1922 Zeenut set (I need 10 more for completion now)...

Tony - that Bowman Mantle is one of my favorite cards in the hobby.
great looking card. nice pick up. |
Mine too!
Thanks Joe. Yeah, it's by far my favorite post-war card. Never thought I'd own one but a trade and slight surface crease made it possible.
|
Finally got these...

...in from Shoeless Joe, who was kind enough to break his T205 Heritage set to part with them. Really nice pair of signed T205 HOFers, with a super clean Wheat signature.

Rhett: Wowzer!!!
Paul: Yep, Joe's good peeps! |

Jim, congrats on some beautiful OJs, are you collecting a Western Association subset? If not, that would be a great start.
Jeremy, nice Werrick, I like the jersey modification/update to St. Paul. What subset does this complete for you? Rhett, great card and congrats. Your tireless efforts no doubt helped you land that card. |

Nice looking 53 Bowman Mantle Tony. Also one of my favorite post war cards.
Hey thanks for this one Steve :) |
Re : Subset
Joe- Just emailed you... This is a OJ type Nashville subset representing players that played in Nashville in 1885 and 1886 and later played for teams represented in the OJ set from 1887-1890.

I picked up this lot of T210's on ebay. I really needed two of the Houston cards for my team set. I'm at 7 of 12 cards now. These are my first new additions since January. I was starting to get discouraged.
I also picked up this 1931 Houston Buffaloes team photo featuring Dizzy Dean and Joe Medwick. I wanted it for quite a while, but it wasn't for sale. When it finally came up for sale a fellow board member sent me a message letting me know and I was able to work out a deal. |
gorgeous card Anthony!

Just got the Seitz this week but have to show where he goes in the collection. This my second full page in the set and my favorite.
|
Wow ! Congrats Robert !!
Nice looking stash - Robert ! I love that Houston panaramic and glad you did not give up on the T210-3's.... You will get all 12 of them in time, so forge ahead ! (It took me 7-8 years to get 17 Nashville players from Series 8)
Happy Holidays - JJ |
.
Thanks for the kind words Jeremy. One of the cards in my team set (Bell) came directly from you, but besides that, your willingness to share your knowledge of the set as well as advice and encouragement has proved invaluable. You are an asset to the hobby.

From Mile High. This card saw the inside of a box of Cracker Jacks and survived in great shape. Just a little brown sugar and popcorn DNA.

Thanks to Andrew for the heads-up shortly after this appeared on eBay as a BIN. T206 Lajoie No. 26 for me.
http://imageevent.com/ineedanap/t206 |
Congrats Rob!
|
Nice group of Lajoie cards, Rob. I know the brown Lenox is nearly impossible, but the AB 460 seems to be tougher than one would think. Have you seen many of the AB 460?
|
What a great array of cards in this month's pickup thread! Gillette N172s and a Wilkinson M116 Cobb, a D304 Matty and an M110 Lajoie, and a Thorpe Zeenut no less. Lots of T210s (love that O.C. Jones) and all those pesky T206s, too.
Here is my second installment in this thread which includes some auction house winnings that have trickled in of late. Always wanted a Ruth autograph and preferably on a card. Picked this up from an auction house that I had declared I would not patronize. Goes to show you what a slut I am, when it comes to cardboard anyway. Can anyone relate? http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...h%20_auto_.jpg Can't remember if I have posted these two cards which I won in the Legendary auction. I am still not quite over watching that lot of 19 Old Mill cabinets soar into the monetary cosmos a while back in Verkman's auction. This Wingo takes a little of the sting out. Am pleased to add a Plow Boy as a type card to my collection. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...b%20Wingo1.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...20Overall1.jpg This acrylic painting of Nap LaWolf was done by Arthur K Miller. It's approximately 14 inches tall. I purchased it online from an art gallery in San Francisco. I think I'm going to put a less ponderous frame on it. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...e/DSC03157.JPG Big Thanks to Board member glchen for this handsome Exhibits Walter Johnson. Gary does a pono deal. That's Hawaiian. Google it. No r. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...Exh%20WaJo.jpg Bought the Toleteros Artie Wilson off eBay about the time he passed away the other week. His son, also named Artie, is a local basketball legend here in Honolulu. I couldn't believe my good luck in landing this T210 Yaeger via the BST from a good ol' boy in Tennessee. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...e%20Wilson.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...20Yaeger_1.jpg Lastly, picked up this color postcard of Swayne Field which makes a nice companion for the black-and-white job I posted earlier in this thread. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...d%20Toledo.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...oledo%20pc.jpg |

Happy with these pick-ups in December
|
David, some great pickups there! I love the cocky look to the Yeager card. Also, if you are gonna own only one Old Mill Cabinet the Ivy Wingo is arguably the best of the known subjects (the Lave Cross is the only other guy I think I might rather have) so you have a real gem there.

Here is my first Walter Johnson card. I didn't think the writing on the front detracted from the look of the card in any way. Almost looks like it was meant to be there!
