Mastro mentioned "only surviving example"....this blows my mind. In the grand scheme, 1951 is not that long ago. You would think this pennant was made in at least some kind of quantity...100s? 1000s? Where did they all go? 1951 was a pretty big deal for Giants fans... I got mine for $85, shipping included, on eBay. Would you have bid, Mark, or do you have higher standards? :p if I see something Giants I don't have, I go for it...pretty much regardless of condition. |
Double sided pennants
The only double sided pennant I've ever come across was a great Athletics pennant I saw at show in the Philly area. One side had Philadelphia Athletics, while the other side had Kansas City Athletics. Wish I would have picked it up.
Here is my favorite Eagles pennant: A circa 1933 or 34 yellow and blue variety. http://antiquesports.co/33pennant.jpg |
That's a great one Keith!
Rob: As for double-sided... I have seen quite a few... * Houston Colt .45s, updated to Astros on the reverse * Boston Braves, updated to Milwaukee on the reverse * Boston Braves, updated to 1948 World Seies on the reverse * Philadelphia A's, updated to Kansas City on the reverse ... and a few others that I'm forgetting. As for the Cinderella Boys Pennant.... normally I'm a slave to condition, but often make an exception if something is insanely rare (or is likely a "now or never" type of piece). That pennant sure fits the category. For $85, I think you did incredibly well. Had I seen it, I would have gone at least double to 3 times that amount. But don't use me as an example! To someone who does not suffer from OCD, I would guess it's about a $400 piece in that condition. |
