I remembered reading this some time ago but I assume Al was referring to the cards in this particular find and not all 52 Topps John Rutherford cards?
"[John] Rutherford (#320) is really the toughest card in the set," said Rosen. "Many of the Rutherford's have a paper wrinkle right through his forehead." https://www.psacard.com/articles/art...-baseball-find |

It wouldn't be fair not to mention this about George Shuba before I post my card.
George Shuba-Jackie Robinson statue unveiled 75 years after special handshake during ballgame. Not an unusual gesture for the sport, but a groundbreaking one for the time, as it was the first interracial handshake in professional baseball. https://spectrumnews1.com/oh/columbu...mented-in-time https://www.cleveland.com/entertainm...-ballgame.html |

Tony Bartirome - I'm glad I got mine before the hoarding started. There are enough really expensive high numbers without having a common sell for the price of a star.

I have a Pee Wee Reese story. My wife's grandfather was a long time employee and director for Hillerich & Bradsby, makers of the Louisville Slugger bats. He was their principle contact with all MLB players who used their bats. That included Ruth and Cobb. He and Cobb became good friends. When he died his pallbearers included Cobb, Casey Stengel, Joe McCarthy, Mr Reese and J Taylor Spinks of the Sporting News
Years later after he retired Reese moved to Louisville nd became H&B's main PR and front man. We lived in St Louis and the Cardinals were in the World Series in 82, 85 and 87. In each of those years we met with Mr. Reese in St Louis to receive Worlds Series tickets from H&B since my wife and her family were long tome stockholders When Reese died he was living in the house below in Louisville. My wife's brother lives next store. I took this picture last year. While the glove surely did not belong to him, it was a nice coincidence that it happened to be there on the lawn at the time. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...-02_144232.jpg https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
