Personally, I love the attachments which were added to the pins by vendors in order to attract more buyers. I think it adds a lot if you can find the original attachments that hung on the boards outside stadiums.

I do agree with you mike especially when its a unique hangar or ribbon. I see you have that little knife on your crossed bats pin. I have one on a Mantle pin. In todays society I dont think it would go over well.. LOL

MK 08-11-2022 12:30 PM

You’re right about the knife Al. You couldn’t sell that today at a ballpark. Do you agree that the souvenir business was pretty much destroyed in 1969 when MLB licensed their products? Pins and pennants after that suck.

I agree Mike... And as you know that little knife is very well made it really could stab someone and it would hurt!:eek:

MK - here's another variation from the 1962 WS.

Based on my NY Giants PM-10's....I think the vendors at the Polo Grounds were just too cheap to add ribbons and hangers.

Such a cool collection of exceptional, perhaps one of a kind, early pinbacks!

I’ve never seen that. Interesting that there’s a purple pennant for that series, too.

Don’t you have pins (Shell Oil, maybe) for the 1961 and 1962 Series? I think both participating teams have the 1961 pin but a Giants 1962 has never turned up?

Would love to see him post it up but you would be correct I havnt seen a 62 shell oil giants pin... It could possibly exist and it wouldnt surprise me.....

I could have sworn a 1962 Shell Oil Yankees WS pin was in someone’s collection. Yes/no?

Two recent no-hit pitcher pinback additions

I'm really happy to have finally added this Bob Feller circa 1940's stadium pin (2.25") to my collection. :)

One additional pickup is this 1991 ARA larger (3.5") pinback celebrating Nolan Ryan's record 7th and final no-hitter.

Both of these will be incorporated into a framed no-hitter HOF larger pinback project that I am working on...

Hi Al,
Very true as far as the bidding at the end! ;)

A surprising number of bidders with pretty high e-Bay feedback.
I was prepared to win this one as it's really nearly my last pinback want for my collection...

Like we talked about it can be a hard pin to find and there seems to be a bigger intrest in pins lately.... Funny I was going to tell you to put a bid of 478 on it at the end.... I would have been a little light!:eek:

It would still be on my wantlist ;):o

ooo-ribay 09-02-2022 07:31 AM

Congrats, Scott! Yes, the rare PM -10 type pins command big money.

Speaking of which, Al - did you see the rare SF Giants that came up maybe six months ago? The guy had about six and priced them all BIN $118. Three were super rare…I remember Billy Pierce and two others….those were snatched up in a hot second. I only heard about them after the fact. That seller left a bunch of money on the table.

Like the saying goes:
The best time to buy something that's rare, or you haven't seen before, is when you see it.

Solid advice as a collector. You're going to overpay on some things, but there are also going to be bargains along the way as well. Hopefully things average out in the long run. That's always been my philosophy...

Some of us crazies who collect pins always looking for the the variations in the crossed bats series. Picked up the center one as I hadnt seen this on in the orange New York version. Much harder to come by... You always see the common blue and white or the San Fran orange version. 1 3/4 size...

Al, the variations with the crossed bats series will drive a person crazy. I’m already there but I still have hope for you. 😂

Since you posted the bottom left, Mike, there’s a couple more “stitches, no crossed bats.” Plus, the kinda hard to find red, white and blue version. Thanks for posting the different font National League Champions. I gotta look for that…

I don’t chase after pin back buttons but I do really enjoy finding them out in the wild and seeing how far along I can collect them to build some sets.

Chris-Counts 10-17-2022 07:08 PM

That's how i got started. Before long I had a case of pinback fever that could never be satisfied. :)
