Hey Frank - great meeting you this week and swapping a few stories. I didn't have much time to leave my table, but I did pick up a WaJo portrait - Sweet Cap Fac 649 overprint - to up my MN to 512
|
Hi Frank! It was so great to meet you and hang out for a little while at the Net54 "meet-up" on Friday night. I also got a chance to talk to Mark M and Ted Z at their table, I had so much fun!
Off grade T206 cards were EVERYWHERE at this years National Convention, and I did some major damage to my want list. At the National, I picked up 45 beat up T206 cards to add to my binder, including 12 S/Lers, and these 14 HOFers. My monster number is now 484. Larry |
Please add me to the list. My number is 30.

Another Milestone
With this year's National Card Show acquisitions, there are now over 50,000 cards listed on the Monster Number Thread. Imagine that.

Monster number
Frank,
I was at 518 at one time, but I have sold a few the past year. Currently my #1 set is 477 and set #2 is 139. Bill |
Hi Frank, could you add me to the list? I believe my 9 T206 puts me in a tie for 210th place! :)
|
With a few purchases today, I'm officially 2/3 of the way to my 520-card 'set'. Please bump me to 344 when you find the time!
|
Going backwards, Frank
My remaining set stands at 108....for now
|
Hi Frank
If you could please, I need a small bump in my Monster Number. Now that the National has come & gone, my new number is 369. Thanks Jantz |
Going down the list
Hi Frank,
Currently have my Magie up for auction in the Huggins auction (going for a steal even considering its condition), oh well. bottom line is that I'm now at 520. Thanks, Joe (obcjoe) |
Frank -- please update my Monster Number to 253. Almost halfway there. For my second set, my Monster Number is 21 (i.e. there are 21 fronts for which I have at least two cards); for my third set, it is 4; and for my fourth through sixth sets, it is 1.

I just got another one. I am up to 15.

Hi Frank I last reported two and a half months ago, and since then I've added 18 cards. My new total is 502.
Had some success in the latest Brockelman & Luckey Auction, and my winnings arrived today. They experienced some minor surgery on my workbench as I cracked them out of their PSA holders so they would fit into the binder:) Three Southern Leaguers and Kid Elberfeld (Washington). 318
Please add me in - I'm at 318 (or will be, when a couple of packages arrive!). I've been picking up t206 off and on since my dad gave me my first one, 30 or 35 years ago. I still have it. In fact, it's this guy.
http://i.imgur.com/AXYtT4b.jpg?3 Matty is the only card my dad ever gave me and said, "You are not allowed to trade this." Other prizes include these: http://i.imgur.com/CA3vQXV.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/5TpxTbl.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/5knVP16.jpg?1 I am not, it should be clear, all that concerned about condition! I like cards that look their age. |
I need the two Cobb portraits and Cy Young portrait to reach my goal of 518. Then I guess I will be looking to upgrade or to sell other items to finance O'Hara and Demmitt variations or even a Magie. It's a dream but for now I am at 515 and never thought I would get this far.
|
Frank - I am selling three more cards on the 'bay tonight, so please take my number down to 50.
Thanks, Raymond . |
Having trouble uploading photos but I recently picked up two Cy Youngs and need only the two Cobb portraits before I take a break. I am at 516.
|
After WSSCA, now at 371
|
438 is my monster number. I am hoping to pick up one or 2 more this month if everything goes to plan. I only need 1 common and the rest are southern league and HOF.
|
Chipping away at the Monster.
After purchasing my first T206 on 10/28/2014 (Christy Mathewson - Dark Cap - SGC 60), I was hooked. I reached 186 today with the majority of my collection being SGC 60 and PSA 5's or higher, 10 different backs and 24 HOF variations. I have to thank all of the Net54 members that I have had dealing with over the past 13 months. Looking forward to many future transactions...thanks.

Picked up a decent Cobb red portrait. When it arrives I will be at 517.

About nine months after picking up my first T206 back in February, I've reached the magical number (for me, anyway) of 520. I set out to do 518, but picked up this Demmitt and O'Hara St. Louis' from two board members last week. Ironically, both are missing the upper left corner! Please also start a Set #2 for me as well (58) since I've upgraded 58 cards as well.
My set is mostly P-G, but pretty in my eyes and getting more aesthetically pleasing with numerous upgrades so far. I doubt I'll try to complete a set #2, but will be continuing to upgrade with some cleaner cards and more unique backs. I also freed about 60 cards that were encapsulated, so there's that. Big shoutout to many members that helped me. I purchased from about 25 or so. Big hat tip to Frank as well as the two guys I probably bought the most from - Scott (mybuddyinc) and Luke (lukelyon). Can't possibly thank everyone since I'm sure I'll forget several, but if you helped me with a card (or several) along the way, thank you! PERSONAL NOTES: First card - Harry Howell Sovereign Last card (of the 518) - JF Kiernan Favorite card - Matty Dark cap Favorite card I own - Either Home Run Baker OM or Bender Portrait EPDG Most annoying card to find - Chance red portrait Best deal - Getting Titus in a lot of about 200 commons Favorite achievement - Getting all four Cobbs (3 Graded 1s and 1 Auth/1 PB) for under $2,000 Most shameful achievement - Losing a Lundgren KC card somehow ... don't ask Non-Common Piedmont/Sweet Cap - 15% (American Beauty, Cycle, EPDG, Tolstoi, Old Mill, Polar Bear, Sovereign, Sweet Cap Overstrike) |

- Reprints mistakenly bought: 1 - Ed Foster. It wasn't even a good reprint, I just didn't look at the scan closely. - Card I bid the most times on before I won it: Ray Ryan - I was stubborn and wouldn't spend more than $30 on it and went a couple years of semi-active bidding before I got it. - Number of times screwed in trades: twice, once on the old board (anyone remember Brandon Rusnak?), once here (I think the guy may have died, he just disappeared from the board, and had been active prior... was just a couple of beater dupes) - Card that I thought I owned for years, but did not: Dahlen, Brooklyn. The Boston version must have tricked me one day... |
Thank you - your notes are interestingly as well. I didn't buy any reprints but the biggest mistake sort of along those lines is buying a few that were trimmed that weren't advertised as such.
Card I bid on the most and lost out on was probably Mordecai Brown or Frank Chance red portraits. Those just took me a while to get within what I wanted to pay. Didn't make any trades but bought probably 100+ cards through the B/S/T. Was fortunate to not have a single bad deal. Quote:

Way to go, Anson! I need you to start upgrading asap. ;)

Frank, since I just did a back census of my T206s and posted about it, you might as well update my Monster number. I'm at 353 for my first set and 28 for my second set. No need to go beyond that, though there are two cards I'm doing back runs on for which I have seven each (Camnitz arms up and Wiltse portrait with cap).
