Jamie, thank you very much for the information on the Punch cards. As I explained before, I am unable to view Cuban card auctions and sales sites from Cuba. Any information is important for me to keep up to date. I don't know if someone will see them when I post on the thread, or if they don't like what I write. At least I know that you saw my post and helped me with what I asked for. If you can, continue with other cards. When I asked for information on that card, it's because they want to buy it and I don't know how much to ask for. I don't know what to decide on the offers they've given me. Thanks again, Jamie.

Rolando--

Five Punch cards with block letter names sold Sept. 2024 in the LOTG Auction. They were all SGC A due to their backs having been skinned:

Gervasio Gonzalez--$9900
Emilio Palomino--$2940
Carlos Roggers--$3120
Gonzalo Sanchez--$3120
Juan Viola--$1920 (I won this one and was happy to acquire it as a type card in my Cuban collection.)

Based on recent sales my uniformed guess is that your Chico Gonzalez with the script name is probably worth $8,000-12,000.

Cheers,
Mike

Many thanks for the information, to César López and M. Peich, I didn't know anything about what you show me, it was very helpful for me.

Outstanding thread! I have read it three times, so much great info and fabulous images!

I hoped someone might be able to help me identify the players in this image, I picked it up because I recognized Dizzy Dismukes, back row third from left, he is one of my recent research subjects. I believe this to be from around 1910 or so. Any help on ID would be greatly appreciated!!

I do hope this isn't a massive size.

Cabañas Variations

2 Attachment(s)
Thanks Rolando. I don't think many people are aware of the variations in the Cabañas set. I have also found the following variations in he name box and in color blue used in the Almendares cards (card sample below):

1. Regino Garcia (REGINO GARCIA Cr.)
2. Regino Garcia (R. GARCIA C. MAMELO)
3. Heliodoro Hidalgo (H. HIDALGO C.F.)
4. Heliodoro Hidalgo (H. HIDALGO C.F. JABUCO)
5. Carlos Royer (CARLOS ROYER Pr.)
6. Carlos Royer (C. ROYER P. BEBE)
7. Luis Bustamante (L. BUSTAMANTE S.S.)
8. Luis Bustamante (BUSTAMANTE S.S. ANGUILLA)
9. Luis Bustamante (BUSTAMANTE s.s. ANGUILLA)

Do you know of any others?

I'm showing from my Specialized Catalog one of the sheets dedicated to the Cabañas Cigars cards with some variants, and some photos of Detroit and Habana y Almendares players. I ask you, do any of you have the Lloyd card from the Cabañas collection?

I was wondering if anyone could assist in identifying any of these players, I believe this photo was taken on one of Dizzy Dismukes trips to Cuba. I believe that the player on the far right resembles Pelayo Chacon and hoped to confirm him and see if any of the other players were recognized.
Thanks so much!

I don't recognize any of the players. I don't think this is a Cuban team. This thread discusses Cuban baseball cards. Try one of the negro league threads.

In 1909 when the Detroit team visited us, pitcher Eustaquio (Bombin) Pedroso pitched and won a complete game against Detroit without allowing hits, but he was given a run by error, he was the hero of the entire series, I show the score of that game.

1926-27 Aguilitas album specifically made for only the artists, film etc. subset? Did they make an album for only the sports postcards?

I see the word Segunda Series Artistica on the cover that got me curious.

Notice that on the back it gives an explanation of the themes and the numbering, those pre Aguilitas are super rare, I have had few in my collection, in Volume 1 of my Specialized Catalog I put an example on one of the pages of the Aguilitas Artistic Series 1926-27, photos.

Amazingly you may have already answered this question. The album looks different that what is in your book, so still curious about the difference.

These are from the 1953-54 Fósforos Peloteros set. They picture players from the 1953-54 Cuban Winter league. They came in two types. One with a solid yellow background and the other with a green lined background. I know of no complete checklist for the set.

Rolando, those are great photos showing some of the baseball cards from the three Aguilitas Albums. Do you know if Rafael Almeida has a card In the 1928 Aguilitas Cuba Deportiva album. He was the manager of the Vedado Tennis Club team but I have never seen his card. If you have it can you provide a scan of the Vedado Tennis club page with him on it. Thanks.

I publish in two threads, but they are different, so those who like to read my posts should open Specialized Catalog of Cuban cards and New Cuban card member, sometimes they have sent me email, asking me to publish on a subject, and I have already published that in the other thread, you should see both threads, today for example I published about different card collections in the threads, in one of Aguilitas and in the other of the Habana Cubans 1948.

Rolando, amazing photo. Not to many people know that the San Francisco baseball club, made up entirely of black Cubans, was the team that in 1900 integrated the Cuban leagues. The team also went on to win the 1900 season championship. They dethroned the Habana club in a three game playoff. Veteran Salvador "Yoyo" Rosado sealed the victory by defeating Habana's sensational rookie Luis "Mulo" Padron (pictured below).

Just thought I'd share a photo I recently picked up. Lincoln Cleaning & Dye Works vs Schmelzer's All Nations club at Capital Beach Park, Lincoln, Nebraska on July 4, 1917. There are two Hall of famers on the AN team. Cristobal Torriente and Jose Mendez. John Donaldson (who should be in the HOF) is also pictured. I have also identified Frank Blattner in the photo (left most player on the AN team). If anyone can help identify other players I would appreciate it.
