Could be chalking up a new Wagner find shortly!
Posted By: David Smith
Barry, you are being too humble.

Jessika, not only are a lot of board members knowledgable about old baseball cards, they make their living (or at least a part of it) selling and dealing in them. There are also some members who own (or have owned) a REAL T206 Honus Wagner.

Me? I own some T206's and have held a REAL Wagner in my hand once. I have not been in the hobby as long as some and I don't make my living in it but even I can tell your Wagner is fake and I have nothing to gain by saying it. If you want to keep wasting time and money, that is your decision. But insulting board members who are trying to help you is not the right thing to do.

Also, a little punctuation in your posts might help.

Posted By: Dylan
How can anyone expect to sell a T206 Wagner not graded these days? I will only let PSA grade it if i can stand in the room??? Sounds like they know its fake and are trying to come up with every excuse possible to justify not having it in a slab. For one thing any high resolution picture of a card shows its one of a kind marks and creases. No one could possibly switch a card out and replicate those, and certainly not a card as publicized as a wagner. How ridiculous, and all the press these idiots have drummed up for another reprint.

Posted By: David Smith
Here is my wish for the hobby.

I wish there were a very wealthy collector who would buy advertising time on National TV, radio, magazines and large newspapers. I wish they would have a standing offer to buy all REAL T206 Honus Wagners. The only stipulation being if the cards are fakes or reprints that he/she gets to tear up or burn the card right in front of the owner.

Doing this might bring out another REAL Wagner or two and also get rid of a bunch of fakes.

David

Posted By: barrysloate
I bet they would be all fakes. In 25 years I probably have gotten 50 phone calls from people outside the hobby who think they have a real Wagner.

I'm still waiting for my first one, and not holding my breath.

Posted By: David Smith
Barry (or anyone else), what was the last honest to goodness REAL Wagner that was found and when? Was it the one that the kid discovered in the foundation of the torn down house?

On a different note, has anyone ever traced the history of the known REAL Wagners? The person who owns the only REAL Wagner I have ever seen is an older collector who was born in Pennsylvania. He said he got it from his Dad, who once owned TWO Wagners at the same time. The reason he had two was because he was a Minor League ballplayer who lived in Pennsylvania and Wagner was his baseball idol while growing up.

Since there are less than 100 known Wagners, could it be they were only distributed regionally, like, possibly, the Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back and Eddie Plank??

David

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Barry, I hate to hijack Jesika's thread but I had a flashback to the Seinfeld episode when George tries to give himself a nickname -- T Bone -- and I nearly laughed out loud. Has nothing to do with the fake Wagner but it still made me laugh...

Posted By: Anonymous
There seems to be a few of you who still don't realize that there is no Jessica at all! The card is an obvious fake so how can anybody rationalize that his/her story about finding it in a cigg pack in the back yard? You don't find a fake in a cigg pack, you only find a fake talking about finding a fake card in a cigg pack. Notice that he can't produce a photo of the pack. He's only fishing for as much info as he can in the event that he would like to produce the most real looking fake that he can so he can try to scam someone at a later time.

Rob

|
Could be chalking up a new Wagner find shortly!
Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Barry is correct - it is Mendy's, and that bastard Banya tried to get a second meal out of Jerry in exchange for the suit by claiming that the soup he ordered did not count as a 'meal.'

Joe's point is well taken: anytime a thread slides into a total barbaric free for all (as this one is slowly moving towards), the obligatory NYC Dinner Thread Dinner II needs to be discussed (or a Dan Bretta music video should be inserted on the thread). As a point of parliamentary procedure, in fact a new thread should NOT be started. Basically, every thread has the potential to be a NYC Dinner Thread. We should embrace -- not fight -- this urge.

And in anticipation of the oligatory Dan music video which is probably just minutes away, I would provide the anticipated response from those to whom the videos are included for: Dan, you selfish bastard, always ruining these great vintage card threads with your hippie music.

Carry on.

Posted By: barrysloate
Jeff- a little aside about that episode. I know you spend time on the east end of Long Island, so you probably know the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor. One of the top people there, who both acts in and directs plays, is Daniel Gerroll. Well, he played Elaine's English boyfriend who ended up with Bania's suit when Jerry got fed up with it (where we come from, we don't say "what", we say "pardon." That's him.) I hope to meet him one day and ask him about acting in a Seinfeld episode.

Posted By: barrysloate
Jeff- I know that gym. When you have a free moment, walk into the lobby of the theatre. Photos from every play performed there are on the wall. Look for "Blithe Spirit" and you will see a picture of him (we saw that play there and he was great- he's a really accomplished dramatic actor).

Posted By: MVSNYC
seeing that this "fake" wagner thread is now officially turning into the "unofficial" NYC Dinner II thread, let's start to weigh some of our options...

last time we did French on the upper east side, should we now do Italian in the west village? i have a great suggestion: Vento, on 14th st. & 9th ave...amazing italian, cheap, cool interior, etc...

p.s. i love Sag Harbor!

Not even worth continuing.
