It was a good run for the good guys.

It's freezing cold again in the DC area.

Wanted to send out some Mets love to get people thru this cold day.

There is A LOT to like about this video, from the various music montages highlighted by Duran Duran's "Wild Boys" (Dyksra and Backman) to Roger McDowell and Howard Johnson breaking down how to light their teammates shoes on fire, aka the "Hot Foot", to various brawls.

It's going to be tough not to cheer for the Mets to flounder in 2025 after their Juan Soto signing left such a bad taste in my mouth. I wish Soto had stayed with the Yankees so I'd have yet another reason to continue hating the Yankees.

:(

There's no shortage of reasons to dislike the Yankees.

+1 This is a great video. One of the things I love about that team is that they only had one future Hall of Famer, Gary Carter, but they still managed to win. They worked together in a way that few teams have since.

I'd say the 1997 Indians (even though they didn't win) and the Big Papi-era Red Sox are the only ones that even come close.

And speaking of the Hall of Fame, I can live with Wally Backman not being in the Hall (colorable argument that he didn't have the counting stats), but the fact that Keith Hernandez isn't in the Hall keeps me up at night.

Wally Backman in the Hall of Fame? From one diehard Mets fan to another, you must be kidding. A career 13 war player. He missed the Hall by a fair amount.

As I said, he didn't have the counting stats :)

A couple of cards:

The best first baseman in the history of baseball plus Mark Bavaro. Why Mark Bavaro? Because Mark Bavaro is awesome.

Great cards!

So the Mets released “Get Metsmerized” one day into the ‘86 season, but were cocky enough to guarantee a World Series win (well at least George Foster who ended up being released later in the season, and HoJo did during their segments).

I feel like Dykstra and “Rook” Kevin Mitchell were the strongest MCs….

Here is an article about the failed rap song (sorry about the paywall): https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/247...f-the-86-mets/

Thanks for sharing this! I had not seen this before, and as awesome as it is, I kind of understand why. (I thought George Foster was pretty good as the leadoff man.)

Yeah, not a great song. But kind of funny.

Ok, we need to show some love to the good guys. Who are now in danger of playing their way out of the playoffs.

LET'S GO METS!!!!

And some magic mojo from last year!

HaHa.....
And they lost again tonight.
Can you say 12 games behind the Phillies.
Can you say even with the Reds and Giants in the loss column.

I can't even watch. Our fate now appears in the hands of the Dodgers.

BobbyStrawberry 09-13-2025 08:24 PM

If they don't make the playoffs, given what the expectations were, is this the most disappointing season in franchise history?

Balticfox 09-14-2025 12:17 AM

Well after their playoff run last year and then the Juan Soto signing, yes.

You can always count on the Polar Bear and Lindor.

Need some positive mojo. And the Mets who personified positive mojo are Mookie Wilson and Wally Backman. Links to heartwarming interviews with Mookie Wilson and Wally Backman. The second Wally Backman interview involves baseball cards!

I still think they're going to make it. But if they don't, it will be one of the most disappointing seasons in recent MLB history. Remember when Uncle Stevie said "if we don't win a WS in 3-5 years, it will be a disappointment"?

bk400 09-23-2025 11:45 PM

In Lindor We Trust. Way to keep fighting tonight. Let's Go Mets!

BobbyStrawberry 09-28-2025 03:19 PM

Wheels coming off early for the Mets.

Mets go out with a whimper, 4-0, after Reds lose to Brewers.

Absolutely epic collapse. Gotta believe that Mendoza is gone after this.

No heart. Left 20 on base. 0-8 with runners in scoring position. Edwin Diaz showed up at least. You can hear the hurt in Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez's voice during the postgame.

BobbyStrawberry 09-28-2025 05:17 PM

At least we get to listen to Ronnie in the playoffs (I think).

Manager is definitely gone whether he deserves it or not. Tough to just buy a team, particularly when the person in charge of spending the money doesn’t do so on pitching.

Totally agree. Mojo matters, and this team had none.

The 2025 team had 5 players with fWAR with 3.0 or higher; the 2024 had only 1.

The 2025 team's top 5 players had fWAR that was 16% higher than the top 5 in 2024.

The 2025 had a generational getting on base talent that cost $765 million, while the 2024 team had Jose Iglesias.

BobbyStrawberry 09-29-2025 08:16 PM

So Bochy and Melvin are now available and they're going to keep Mendoza? Classic Mets stupidity.

Wally Backman is also available. Now that Sandy Alderson is gone, Wally can get his chance again. The Mets don't have an issue with game management. There's just no heart. We need Wally Backman.
