I was thinking that John's Spring Training Hank Aaron debut scorecard probably trumps my 1st home run scorecard in terms of scarcity!
And then I got to thinking a little more....that if I went to the National for another 20 years, it's unlikely that I'd ever see most of the scorecards and programs that have already been shown in this thread!! Here's another Spring Training program that probably represents the earliest Fergie Jenkins and Dick Allen sightings I've ever seen. Fergie wouldn't go on to play for the Phils in the regular season until a couple years later (Sept. 1965), while Allen would make his regular season debut for the Phils in Sept. 1963. Edited for apologies: I have no idea why the photos are posting sideways! Will try to correct at next posting! |

MLB debut game HR #1 HR #2 (and Musial #260) HR #300 HR #500 HR #600 Aaron 2-5 2B HR; Mays 4-6 2B. This was the first game in nearly 43 years where 2 members of the 3000 hit club (since some guys named Cobb, Speaker and Collins did it a bunch of times) had extra base hits. HR #661 (no cover, just the scoresheet) HR #714 HR #715 Last career run scored (with thanks to Scott the GrayGhost) If I'm counting right, I have scored programs / scorecards for 167 of his homers. Apologies for the non scorecard but this Ball was signed By Aaron as the Braves played 2 preseason games vs the Red Sox in South Carolina. The Boston Braves had played their Cross town Rivals for 50 years 1901 to 1952 when the Braves left for Milwaukee. They played in 53 in Milwaukee but game lost money so the tradition died. But in spring of 54 they decided to meet up a couple days before the season started. Ball is signed by both Red Sox and Braves. There is a quote from Ted Williams who commented after hearing the sound of Aaron's bat. I belive it was at these games. ( I promise I will get back to scorecards )

I'm working on a run of World Series programs and tickets from 1930 to 1980 (but i also pick up an occasional scorecard or ASG program). This gave me a nice excuse to get them out.

That 1936 World Series program....I mean, I like the NYY version a lot, but....could they have made the image of the Buffalo Nickel any larger, LOL? Also, why the Buffalo Nickel?
It's always nice to go through your collection and stumble upon something you forgot you had. I did just that today, and stumbled on a 1960 Washington Senators opening day program/scorecard, annotated to reflect the thing that distinguishes it from other Senators opening day programs: Ted Williams hit his 493rd home run that day, tying him with Gehrig. The program came with a ticket stub stapled (unfortunately) to the scorecard. But hey, I like Williams and I'd buy it again if I had the chance, without question! |
Well the fact that the Ticket is stapled is not the best option but...it is a full opening day ticket that is most likely worth more than the program given the Ted Williams HR. Any way you look at them a great pair of items.

HOF Jim Palmer 200th win scored program
5 Attachment(s)
This is a pretty cool scored program to HOF Jim Palmer's 200th career win that I recently picked up on eBay.
Not only is it neatly scored, but the patron sent it to Palmer and asked that he sign it, which he did. IMHO, what takes this to the next level is that it also included the fan note requesting the autograph. Apparently he also attended Palmer's no-hitter in 1969 and scored that program as well. :) |

Thanks Scott. Ya know, a couple of years ago before I started really getting into tickets, I would have dismissed this as just a regular ticket stapled to just a regular scorecard!

The program below is from when Unitas threw his 100th TD pass. He became the fastest to throw 100 passing TDs, and accomplished this in his 53rd game, during his streak of 47 consecutive games in which he threw at least 1 touchdown pass. Marino would later become the fastest to 100 TD passes in 1986, needing only 44 games to do so.

In honor of Tim McCarver, here is his third career game, his second appearance at catcher, and the first time he caught Bob Gibson. This was the first time the team won with him behind the plate, and it was Gibson's second career win, versus five losses.
Many of us have heard the story of McCarver going out to the mound when Gibson pitched and being told by the pitcher to get back behind the plate. "The only thing you know about pitching," Gibson said, "is how hard it is to hit." It's quite possible that at some point during this 6-4 win, which ended with McCarver 0-10 at the plate so far in his career, Gibson said exactly that to McCarver first the very first time. Note that while the person who scored this game shows McCarver getting singles in the 5th and 9th, both were actually fielder's choice outs where he ended up at first base. |

So, I don't have lots of scorecards, but these are cool. I got these when my father bought part of Ken Smith's collection back in the 1980's. These are Puerto Rican winter league programs 1954-58. I have 7 or 8 of them. lots of notes about players in the margins. A few are scored including this one from 1954. You might recognize a couple guys on this team

Always a nice bonus to have a ticket accompanying a scorecard, and you scored a double-bonus with those 2 tix to the Lasorda game, Doug! Did you know they were there when you bought the scorecard or was it a complete surprise?

This program and ticket stub are from Bobby Orr’s NHL debut. I also have this scored program from an early Dummy Hoy game.
Have quite a few others from hockey and early baseball, happy to share later on. I love the feel of culture back in those days that you get from the programs. And many are still quite reasonable in price as others have stated. A really great collectible. |

This is an incredibly rare program from the Jackie Robinson All-Stars game against the Creoles All-Stars.
The Jackie Robinson All-Stars generally had generic programs which could be used for any game. This is the only game-specific program from the JR All-Stars that I have ever seen (although I imagine others exist). |

I ran across an old Dodgers program/scorecard & ticket stub combo that I finally had time to look at and research a bit. The date based on the scorecard indicates nothing of significance happened in that game (7/21/74). But I did find something interesting about the program that motivated me to post a couple of pics and share with the group.
Apparently the Dodgers must have accepted baseball-related personal ads to run in some of their programs to generate revenue. Below is one such ad (from the 7/21/74 program) from an early collector of memorabilia the type of which would be of obvious interest to those that have contributed to this thread or a sister thread on tickets/stubs. One can only wonder what responses the person got, and if he/she held on to any of the items that they received from placing the ad! |

I just picked this program up. It was from a 1967 Charity Testimonial Banquet hosted in Eerie PA. First time I have come across one of these. The honorees were the MLB MVP Clemente and NFL MVP Bart Starr. Pirates manager Harry Walker was in attendance as well as was HOF member Garo Yepremian who had just completed his rookie season that saw him set an NFL record six Field Goals in a single game. Bob Prince was the MC. Each one of them signed this program. I found a photo of Clemente and Starr at the event. If you look at Starr’s left hand he is holding a copy of this program.
Whoops I stand corrected Garo is not in the NFL HOF. How embarrassing for both of us. |
Beautiful rare program, Mike, and all the more rarer with those signatures!

Thanks I am very happy with it

I started this thread with a program from Jim Brown's last regular season game, and I was happy to recently add to my collection a program from Jim Browns first regular season game. It's got a little writing on the Willard Mullin cover, but these programs don't surface too often, so condition wasn't all that important in this case. Interestingly, the photo of Brown in the program appears to be the exact same photo used for his 1958 Topps rookie card!

Very cool program, Jonathan. I live in Victoria and less than a mile from the site of the Patrick Arena where the Cougars played. Following the 1926 season they became the Detroit Cougars and eventually the Detroit Red Wings. The attached snaps are of a commemorative cairn on the grounds of Oak Bay Secondary across the street from the old rink. The other is a display at the municipal hall to which I contributed some old hockey postcards. The Cougars remain the only team from British Columbia to have won the Stanley Cup. Still waiting on the Canucks.

Hey All.
Wow, some killer scorecards/programs on here. I don't get on Net54 much these days so I missed this post. I can throw a few out there but they come by way of scoreBOOKS instead. Hopefully they are a close enough fit. This one meshes with Jonathan's post (above). It's one of Harry Wright's personal scorebooks from 1883 while managing the Providence team. It contains about two months of games and includes Hoss Radbourne's no-hitter. The last pic shows Wright holding one of these scorebooks (online pic, not mine).
